The ratings below are for HRC motor rated fuses. 7 LC UNIT INSTALLATION Heronhill - for all your IMI requirements The LC CELLAR COOLER may be mounted directly onto a solid ceiling or on a wall. The installer supplies: Mounting * Fully insulated refrigeration pipework. * All mains wiring with suitable isolation; Interconnecting wires for indoor and outdoor units. * Condensate drain (3/4" bore diameter tube). * A 5mm Allen key for opening the outdoor/ducted unit valves. * Method for securing solid sheathed cables if these are used. 1 If an electric heater kit is to be used, it is easier to fit this prior to mounting the unit and connecting the pipework. 2 The end panels of the unit are flanged to form mounting brackets. Holes are provided in the flanges for securing the unit to a wall or ceiling. 3 Ensure that the mounting surface will support the operating weight of the unit (see table below). 4 Mark out the mounting positions (keyholes, and plain holes for security), and drill holes to suit 6mm Rawlbolt shields or equivalent strength fasteners (ensure that the unit is positioned to give sufficient access to the electrics box on the left hand side and the pipe connections on the right hand side). 5 Raise the unit into position and secure the fixings, ensuring that it is square and level. 6 Once fully installed, remove the protective coating from the stainless steel case. 8 INSTALLATION of 550 Series CONDENSING UNITS MCU = standard condensing unit MCU+ = standard condensing unit + FSC + LP switch The installer will require: 2 open ended spanners for securing the flare fittings A 4 or 5mm Allen Key for the valves (dependant on valve type). Note: It is easier to fit kits prior to mounting the unit. These units are designed to stand on a flat surface. If the unit is to be wall mounted the following kit is available. (IMI Air Conditioning cannot accept liability for installers own mounting arrangements). Model MCU(+) Mounting Bracket Kit Whether floor or wall mounted, it is essential that the mounting surface is capable of supporting the unit weight. Leave space around the unit for air circulation and access for installation and maintenance. MOUNTING: MCU(+) All dimensions are in millimetres. It is generally easier to fit the following kits (if applicable) prior to mounting the unit :- i) PTC (Positive temperature coefficient resistor) } for use on single phase systems, ii) CSR (Capacitor start relay). } particularly on long pipe runs. iii) Isolator. iv) Overload (single phase units only: standard on three phase units). v) Wall mounting kit. Consideration should be given to the following, prior to mounting, but should not be fitted until the unit is in position:- i) Intake/discharge plenum. ii) Flexible ductwork. iii) Intake/discharge grille. -8-

9 Mounting Heronhill - for all your IMI requirements Units are supplied with a polystyrene packing piece supporting the blower assembly, this MUST be removed prior to commissioning. Ducted Units are designed to be hung on a wall (kit available), suspended from a ceiling (installer supplied fittings), or to stand on a flat surface. Whichever method is used, it is essential that the mounting surface is capable of supporting the unit's weight. Dimensions Dimensions in mm. Model A B C D E F G H J K Spigot Ø Weight (kg) DCUE DCUE DCUE Floor Mounting Using the appropriate side of the packing carton as a template, (centres marked A,B), mark out and drill 4 holes to suit M8 bolts (also see overleaf). Secure the unit to the floor. Discard the stabilizing brackets. Suspension Mounting The installer must supply 4 x M8 threaded rods with 16 nuts and washers to suit. IMPORTANT: The stabilizing brackets provided MUST be used when suspending a unit. Fit the stabilizing brackets to the top corners of the backpanel and front face using the No. 10 screws provided, (2 per bracket). If these brackets are omitted the unit will be subject to unacceptable movement on compressor start. Where long drops of M8 rod are used, it is advisable to incorporate flexible pipes in the suction and expansion lines to absorb any movement of the unit. Using the template printed on the side of the packing carton, (centres marked A), mark out the ceiling and drill 4 holes to suit M8 screwed rod. Raise the unit to the required height and pass the screwed rods through the mounting holes in the units feet and stabilizing brackets. Secure the unit with a nut and washer on either side of each stabilizing bracket and two nuts and washers underneath each foot mounting hole, (as shown, right). -9-

10 Wall Mounting Specially designed brackets to enable ducted units to be wall mounted are available as an optional kit ( ). Ductwork Each unit is supplied with air inlet and discharge spigots, model mm (14") dia., models 50 and mm (16") dia. These may be used for connecting installers ducting or used with the optional Duct, Plenum and Grille kits. Please refer to the kit instruction for installation methods. The front face of the units also fitted with M6 rivnuts to accept installer supplied square ducting, see dimensions below. Maximum flange width is 25mm and fixing holes should be central within them. NOTE: It is essential that ducting is adequately insulated to prevent sweating. An insulation thickness of at least 45mm is recommended. Remove the expansion device from the outdoor/ducted unit. Remove the cellar cooler right hand panel cover plate. Break the flare joint in the liquid line and fit the expansion device between the two pipes: this will allow for a liquid line rather than an expansion line, but will restrict the maximum length of run to 22.5m, including a maximum of 7.5m lift. The following pipe sizes are selected to maintain refrigerant velocities, giving adequate oil return to the compressor and maximum compressor capacity. 11 PIPEWORK Heronhill - for all your IMI requirements 1 Liquid lines should be routed to avoid hot areas. This is to prevent flash gas forming which may result in erratic control of the liquid refrigerant to the evaporator. 2 Suction lines should slope downwards towards the compressor by at least 4mm per metre. 3 Suction lines must always be adequately insulated over their entire length, including inside the cellar cooler. Insulate expansion lines when applicable. 4 In calculating equivalent lengths of pipe runs, the effect of bends and fittings must be taken into account. Information concerning the equivalent lengths of line fittings and bends etc. is generally available to the design engineer. The table below covers the fittings most likely to be encountered in this type of installation. The equivalent lengths of all the fittings in a particular pipe run must be added together and the total added to the actual length of pipe in the run, in order to calculate its total equivalent length. PIPE CONNECTIONS LC UNITS Pipework is terminated with brazed caps inside the unit. Access is via the right hand panel cover plate. Pipes can exit the unit through holes in the top and back panel or through the gap at the right hand end of the air on grille. Refer to the outdoor/ducted unit installation instructions for details of pipework connection. If a sight glass is fitted to assist charging, position it in the liquid/expansion line BEFORE the expansion device, downstream of a drier, (if fitted). MCU, MCU(+) AND DCUE UNITS Outdoor units are supplied with the following male flare connections (sizes in inches); MODEL MCU(+)/DCUE SIZE LIQUID 3/8 3/8 1/2 SUCTION 3/8 1/2 5/8 NOTE: Ensure that both service valves on the outdoor/ducted unit are closed (IN, fully clockwise) before commencing installation. 1 Remove and retain the flare nuts from the service valve. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS All mains, control and interconnecting cables must be supplied and fitted by the installer. The installer wiring must be carried out in accordance with IEE regulations and local codes. Refer to the interconnecting wiring diagrams on page s 17 to 19. All mains supply cables must be size compatible with the recommended fuse for a given system (see pages 5 and 6). An all pole isolator switch should be positioned within easy reach of the indoor unit. The equipment must be earthed. Cable clamps for use with stranded cables are supplied in all outdoor/ducted units and should be used to secure all incoming/outgoing cables. Installers must supply a method of securing any solid sheathed cables. IMPORTANT NOTE: On 3 Phase unit sizes 50 and 80 it is possible for the scroll compressor to run backwards. This becomes obvious on start up; the compressor will not develop a normal running pressure differential and the top will not become warm. It may be excessively noisy. If this happens, switch off the mains power and exchange any two of the phases supplying the unit. This will correct the rotation of the compressor. -11-

12 ELECTRICALSUPPLY All systems require a supply to the condensing unit with connecting cables run to the indoor unit. OUTDOOR UNIT WIRING Cable entry for the outdoor unit electrics is through the cabinet to a terminal block. Outdoor unit fan motors have a high speed (black) wire and a low speed (red) wire; the speed not being used is wired into a dummy terminal. Electromechanical condensing units (MCU) are supplied wired for low fan speed, which is suitable for temperate climates. If continuous running is expected at ambient temperatures of 35 C or higher, change to high speed by interchanging the black and red wires, i.e. black to fused terminal, red to terminal 4. MCU+ and DCUE are supplied wired for high speed to give maximum control utilising the head pressure control. Ensure that all connections are secure and that both units are earthed. DATA PLATES Because of the ability to mix-match indoor and outdoor units, the data plate only gives information on outdoor units. To obtain the system details, input power and currents from indoor and outdoor units should be added together. Data plates show basic units with electric heater kit loads shown separately, (see data on page 5). EVACUATING 1 Connect a vacuum pump to the service ports on the outdoor unit valves and evacuate the interconnecting pipework and indoor unit to 1000 microns (1 Torr) or better and allow to be held for a minimum of 15 minutes. 2 If NO additional refrigerant charge is required: Replace the caps on the service ports, (tighten to a torque of 25NM), and open the valves using a 5mm Allen key. On DCUE units, REMOVE link JP6 identified by a white label, (otherwise the unit will always run at full speed). ADDING REFRIGERANT 1 If additional refrigerant charge is required: After evacuating the indoor unit and interconnecting pipework, open the valves using a 5mm Allen key. The high and low side pressures should equalise within a minute. 2 Additional charge should be introduced through the Schrader valve on the indoor unit or the service port on the suction service valve on the outdoor unit. 3 MCU(+) units fitted with head pressure control - the fan should be run at maximum speed during charging: Pressure operated HPC: transfer the white wire from terminal 4 to terminal 1. Temperature operated HPC: transfer the white wire from terminal 2 to terminal 1 DO NOT FORGET to transfer the white wire back once charging is complete. DCUE are supplied with link JP6 fitted on the outdoor unit pcba; this allows additional charging and overrides alarms during the charging process. With both units powered, the DCUE fan will run at high speed. Indoor units should be set to operate in cooling mode at maximum speed. 4 Ensure that any refrigerant or oil added is the same as the system was originally charged with. 5 If a manual HP cutout is fitted, ensure that the reset button is depressed. 6 On DCUE models a random start delay of up to 1 minute occurs when mains is first applied. A 3 minute delay occurs between successive compressor operations on all systems incorporating DCUE units, or MCU(+) units fitted with a 3 minute timer kit. 7 Run the system for a few minutes to allow it to stabilize. Where possible, charge to a sweat line on the evaporator. Typical suction pressures on short lines at UK conditions, with high speed evaporator fan, low speed condenser fan (commissioning speed for DCUE), should be approx. 4.4 bar (65 psig). Care should be taken when the compressor is first started in the field to ensure that the system is not overcharged, in which case liquid return to the compressor could result. 8 On DCUE units, once refrigerant has been added, REMOVE link JP6, identified by a white label (otherwise the unit will always run at full speed). -12-

13 CHARGING PIPE RUNS UP TO 7.5M. Each outdoor/ducted unit is precharged with R22 ( R407C)refrigerant. Refer to the table below to determine the amount of refrigerant to be added/recovered from each system. Additional oil is not required for pipe runs up to 7.5m. For pipe runs over 7.5m, extra refrigerant and oil must be added to the system for each additional metre over 7.5m, based on the above PLUS the following: Liquid line size (ins) 1/4 3/8 Expansion line size (ins) 3/8 1/2 5/8 Additional refrigerant (g/m) Additional oil (same as supplied) 25g per 350g of additional R22/R407C The above charge weights are calculated for use in U.K. conditions. If the room conditions will always be 27 C db/19 C wb and above, (NEMA and higher), the required charge should be increased by 8% prior to making adjustments for additional line lengths. WHEN INSTALLATION HAS BEEN COMPLETED, CHECK :- 1 All pipe work and joints for leakage. 2 All pipe work and fittings for insulation. 3 All bolts are secure and that the fan rotates freely. 20 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS The operating switches are located at the left hand side of the coil on the front of the unit. These function as follows: ON/OFF SWITCHING The upper rocker switch (red neon) is the On/Off switch. This operates the fan motor and is illuminated when power is supplied to the unit. When switched off, the unit is stopped but the crankcase heater in the condensing unit will remain live. TEMPERATURE CONTROL The lower knob operates a heat/cool thermostat which can be adjusted within a nominal range of 8 C - 23 C. The selected temperature is automatically controlled by a thermostat sensing return room air. LOWER room temperatures can be maintained by turning the knob clockwise in the direction of the arrow marked 'Cooler'. This will operate the compressor if the room is too warm and hence cool the room. HIGHER room temperatures can be maintained by turning the knob counter-clockwise in the direction of the arrow marked 'Warmer'. This will only heat the room if an electric heater is fitted. The dot shown represents a nominal setting of 10 C, sensed at the return air grille. OPERATION Always allow at least three minutes between operations which stop and start the compressor, i.e., 1 Do not turn the unit off and straight back on. 2 Do not turn the lower rotary control knob from 'Cooler' to 'Warmer' and straight back to 'Cooler'. This will allow the system pressures to equalize and prevent any compressor damage. -20-

21 CELLAR COOLER HEATER KITS ITEM QTY DESCRIPTION PART NUMBER MODELS USED ON 1 1 Heater Assembly including Wires LC 100/170 (3kW at 240V) It is preferable to fit this kit prior to installing the unit LC 230 (3.75kW at 240V) ISOLATE THE SYSTEM ELECTRICALLY PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF THIS KIT. 1 Remove the drip catcher and the drip tray by releasing the six screws. 2 Slacken the remaining two screws at the front of the unit. 3 Remove the electrics access panel by releasing the four screws. 4 Slide the heater assembly into place between the lips at the top and side of the coil and secure in place with the existing screws. Heat/Cool Thermostat (viewed from the rear) 5 Remove the grommet in the left hand side panel and feed the wires through into the electrics compartment; fit the appropriate grommet supplied on the wires into the hole and discard the other grommet. 6 Connect the glass-lap lead to terminal 3 on the Heat/Cool thermostat and the black lead to the piggy-back terminal on the white lead connected to the capacitor. Connect the green/yellow lead to the earth stud in the electrics compartment. 7 Replace the electrics panel, drip tray and drip collector.
