2 Why Radiant Ceiling Heating? Comfort Using the radiation principle air is not heated directly. Radiant heating warms objects, surfaces and people. This results in a soft comfortable indoor climate and an even temperature. Space By putting the heating in the ceiling, valuable wall and floor space is saved. Aesthetics The Modular Radiant Ceiling system is totally invisible, as it looks exactly like a standard suspended ceiling. Frico offers a large choice of tiles in different materials and colours. Acoustics The system is completely silent. Some of our ceilings also contribute to lower the sound levels in the building. Hygiene The MRC does not cause any air movement, as traditional heating systems often do. Reducing the spread of dust, bacteria or odours improves the quality of the indoor environment. Safety The MRC is a safe system. With its low surface temperature and its position risk of accidental burns or damage to the product itself is greatly reduced. No maintenance, apart from routine cleaning, is required. Each tile is equipped with a plastic handle (also used as product label) making it easy to handle on installation. It reduces the risk that the tile is damaged or soiled while mounting. Reliability Our products meet all the current standards and regulations. The heating foil is marked with the French electricity standard NF électricité. There is a 5-year warranty on our products. Energy efficient performance MRC gives complete control of the energy used. 3 Modular Radiant Ceiling Radiation is the energy transfer between two objects of different temperature. The heat will always flow from the warmer object to the colder one. In a Modular Radiant Ceiling, the heating foil heats up the ceiling surface by conduction. The surface will then transfer the heat to other, colder, objects by radiation until there is a temperature balance. The air will then get warmer by conduction. A comfortable indoor climate will be obtained as the floors, walls, objects such as furniture, and people will settle at an even temperature (~22-23 C). The air temperature will be slightly lower (~17 18 C) without affecting the feeling of well being, and thus reduce the energy consumption. This heating system is highly efficient and reliable. With the right regulation and setting the energy is used in the very best way Elementary school Paris XIII Construction of a modular radiant ceiling A Modular Radiant Ceiling consists of: A suspension grid, type 600x600 mm exposed system of 24 mm or 15 mm, made of supports (4), perimeter trims (5), main runners (1) and cross tees (2) (3). Heating modules (6) and neutral modules (7)) Special MRC power cable with sockets An optional insulation of glass fibre if required The complete system should be mounted by qualified competent technicians (or trained by Frico). 7 Suspension grid and edge details The modules, heating and neutral, are mounted on an ordinary suspension grid, just as any false ceiling. There are three types of grids suitable for the MRC : Board (B) or bord A - mounted in exposed grid 24 or 15 mm. Tegular (T) or bord E24 - mounted in semi-concealed grid 24 mm. Microlook (M) or bord E15 - mounted in semi-concealed grid 15 mm. 6 The Frico modules The heating modules are prefabricated units comprising a heating foil integrated into a ceiling tile, which is insulated at the back with mineral wool. These parts are glued together to form the complete unit (patented procedure). The neutral modules are identical to the heating modules but without the heating foil. The connection of the modules can only be made with a prefabricated MRC power cable. The power cable has a maximum length of 18 metres with an output of 4000W. It is equipped with double sockets every 60 cm. Two heating modules can be connected to each socket. 3 Surface layer (1) The surface layer is a standard ceiling tile, provided by several different brands (Armstrong, Efisol and BPB PLaco). Fire reaction: M1/M0 depending on the model. The tiles have sufficient density to sit perfectly in the suspension grid even if there is an over pressure in the room. The tiles are impermeable, eliminating the filter effect (air does not pass through the tiles so they will not capture dirt).
