3 STRADA ELECTRIC UNDERFLOOR AND CEILING HEATING SYSTEMS Description of Systems Floor Systems: T he following alternatives can be provided: Direct Heating: ( Full details on pages 4 & 6) ( Continuous 24 Hour Supply) U sing Stradacable under-floor heating cables rated at 10Watts/Lin.m and 50mm thickness if traditional or free- f lowing floor screed on an insulated base. C ontrol would be via individual room thermostats, fully programmable models available. Combined System: ( Full details on pages 5) ( Off- P eak Coupled with Direct Heating) Stradacable under-floor heating cables rated at 17Watts/Lin.m are installed mid- way within a traditional thicker s creed, 75mm depth overall above an insulated base. T his allows a Storage floor to be used to provide the majority of the heating needs at the low cost Economy 7 rate. A partial On- Peak system would be installed in tandem for use as standby; this could either be incorporated as an under- f loor or ceiling system. Control would be via a Pactrol weather compensating controller with external detector for control of the Off- Peak system with individual room thermostats providing the direct On- P eak top up as required. Timber Constructed Floor System: ( Full details on pages 10-11) ( Conti nuous 24 Hour Supply) Stradafilm heating element is used for the installation within constructed floors, fitted above Stradalite I nsulation on a Plywood or Chipboard base. S tradafilm is rated at 130 Watts/M² and would be overlaid with 500g polythene and maximum 20mm thick l aminate/wooden floorboards to provide an effective dry floor heating system. C ontrol would be via dual acting room thermostats complete with a limiting temperature floor sensor. Ceiling Heating Systems: ( Full details on pages 8-9 ) ( Conti nuous 24 Hour Supply) S tradafilm heating element would be fixed to ceiling joists and insulation fitted above. G ypsum plasterboard would be applied to provide a full ceiling heating system rated at 200 Watts/M² or as a top-up to an Off-p eak underfloor sys tem. S tradafilm is available in standard widths to suit 300 mm, 400 mm, 450 mm or 600 mm joist centres. Where fire rating is required such as intermediate floors within Timber framed buildings the heating element c an be installed between 2No.layers of Pl asterboard. Control would be via individual room thermostats (16- amp loading capacity) with central time clock (Not s upplied by Strada). Bathrooms, Kitchens & Conservatories ( Full details on pages 7) A full range of Stradamats and Stradacable kits are ava ilable for use under tiled floors on an insulated base. 3

This system s upply. uses Stradacable rated at 10Watts/lin.m.suitable for connection to a 24 hour continuous N ormally installed within a 50 mm maximum depth traditional screed or mm deep free flowing f loor screed on an insulated base. Direct systems are designed with a suitable overload to provide a responsive warming up period and are normally controlled on an individual room basis by a wall mounted thermostat and central time clock ( Not supplied by Strada) T he output of a direct system w ould be in the region of Watts/ M² a cross useable floor area. Strada cable grips are used during installation to secure the Stradacable at the room edges. Cables are installed to within a nominal 75 mm from walls and obstructions and would not extend beneath solid furniture i tems, kitchen fitments and sanitary ware etc. Note: Please see pages 8 & 9 for details of Stradafilm ceiling system, as a separate system or installed as a t op up for combined system. 5

6 STRADACABLE UNDERFLOOR CABLE SYSTEMS S TRADACABLE ELECTRIC UNDERFLOOR SYSTEMS WI TH FLOWING FLOOR SCR EED. Calcium S ulphate flowing floor screed can be used with 10 Watt/m cables having 40 mm screed t hickness. Strada are able to offer a comprehensive flooring package including, supply and installation of insulation, edge trims and Stradacables followed by installation of the floor screed. Up to 800 m² of floor screed can be laid in one day, saving much site time. The floor would be ready for light floor traffic w ithin 24 hours. Compared with a traditional hand applied floor screed, (laying rate 80 m²/day) this system suited to larger sites, showing savings in p rogramme t ime and hence s ite establishment costs. This system is suitable c ontinuous supply). The new L2 building regulations have stringent guidelines concerning acoustic a nd thermal resistance. 7 STRADAMAT AND STRADACABLE KITS These products are suitable for self- installation by a competent individual and provide e ffective underfloor heating, thereby avoiding unsightly or obtrusive traditional heaters. T he choice between Stradacable kits and Stradamats can be simplified in terms of proposed siting. Generally, for smaller areas Stradamats are more convenient in bathrooms, En- suites, cloakrooms and kitchens etc. Careful fitting can be a chieved by simply cutting the stitched cloth containing the cables. F or larger areas, Stradacable kits are generally more suitable. The centres of these cables can be varied in order that the w hole of the floor area can be heated and differing levels of comfort can be achieved using this method. S TRADACABLE KI TS Stradacable kits are a self- i nstalled item, provided in kit form, which allows the user a choice of cable s pacings and hence heat output. S uitable for the same rooms as cable mats, plus larger areas and conservatories, with tiled floors. T echnical Details: These cable kits are designed for self-i nstallation and should be checked by a qualified Electrician, consisting: - Drum mounted thin double insulated and earth screed heating cable fitted with a 3- metre long cold c onnection lead suitable for all rooms including bathrooms, with high impact adhesive tape T win condu ctor 3 mm thick cable requiring connection from only one end. S implification of installation provided by template to plan cable runs. Standard kits include 12- a mp electronic thermostat with floor sensor (Kit Types 10200, 10250, 10320). All other kits complete with 15- a mp programmable thermostat with remote floor sensor probe. Full installation instructions and 10- y ear guarantee. 1 year on controls. S T RADAMATS Electrically operated Stradamats are an easily installed product designed for self-i nstallation in tiled floors. Suitable for bathrooms, en- suites, shower rooms, kitchens, smaller room extensions and c onservatories. 8 STRADAFILM CEILING HEATING SYSTEMS HIDDEN ELEMENT TO PROVIDE A RADIANT HEATE D CEILING Stradafilm ceiling element provides a discreet, effective and efficient form of radiant ceiling heating. The t emperature ceiling heating elements produce a gentle radiated heat th at evenly warms the whole room. low Once the surfaces have been warmed, heat is then reflected resulting in comfortable natural warmth with minimum floor to ceiling temperature variation. The principle of this system is based on continuous resistive s heet, pr oviding heat evenly over the black surface areas. S tradafilm is fixed through clear edges to ceiling joists with insulation fitted above. T he heated element section is clear of the joists. P lasterboard and skim finish would then be applied in the normal m anner. W here a fire rating is required, element can be installed between 2No.layers of plasterboard. This system can be used solely as a direct heating system or as a "top-up" to an in-floor "off- p eak" system. ( Hi- L o Page 5). C ontrol for direct systems is by means of individual room thermostats or by incorporating into a BMS for larger i nstallations. Stradafilm consists of a specially formulated semi- conductive medium, coated onto polyester film or impregnated into glass cloth, 0.5mm thickness. Power is fed to this resistive coating by way of copper e lectrodes fixed to the longitudinal edges of the heating areas. This structure is insulated by a lamination of polyester based films that totally cover the element and is wider than the conductive heating area, forming s trong clear edges that are designed to accep t subsequent stapling to ceiling joists. Lengths of Stradafilm are interconnected on a room by room basis in parallel with secure crimps and covers. T hese systems are normally designed at a maximum rating of 130 Watts/m² o f useable floor area. Timber Constructed Floor - S tradafilm is fitted onto Stradalite Insulation board above a structural Plywood/Chipboard base.
