2 Introducing the MOLDbox Vacuum/Press Thermoforming Machinery. A machine specifically designed and manufactured for the needs of the sign industry. The MOLDbox operates both as a hydraulic press for plastic material and as a vacuum molder. One of its greatest advantages is the fact that the operator can change both the mold and the operating dimensions within 2-3 minutes without the need to tightening or loosen any screws. Overview Mold tables Adjustable thermoforming area Upper table One great advantage of this thermoforming machine is the easy and fast adjustment of the active thermoforming area.

The user can also manufacture these side bar pairs depending on his needs. The machine is designed in such way that the placement of the remote bars is a matter of few minutes.

Upper table is controlled by 4 large air pistons capable of applying kg at 8 bar pressure. This enables press applications even on the toughest materials and thickness up to 15mm.

The upper table is designed in such way that the mold can easily slide into the required position and then be securely locked into place. Locking is performed by two sets of air pistons pairs.

The position of the lower table is continuously monitored by two linear encoders on each side for enhanced control. Additional proximity sensors ensure safe operation for the user and the machine.

4 Overview Mold tables Adjustable thermoforming area Upper table One great advantage of this thermoforming machine is the easy and fast adjustment of the active thermoforming area. This is achieved by using pairs of remote side bars with custom length while the front and back bars of the frame remain the same. The user can also manufacture these side bar pairs depending on his needs. The machine is designed in such way that the placement of the remote bars is a matter of few minutes. The ability to change the active thermoforming area of the machine in a very short period of time is essential when different sized molds are used thought out the day. Upper table is controlled by 4 large air pistons capable of applying kg at 8 bar pressure. This enables press applications even on the toughest materials and thickness up to 15mm. The table end position is fully adjustable and can be set by the user with a very functional hand knot. Proximity sensors ensure safe operation for the user and the machine. The upper table is designed in such way that the mold can easily slide into the required position and then be securely locked into place. Locking is performed by two sets of air pistons pairs. Lower table Lower table movement is controlled by an oil piston capable of applying kg at 80 bar pressure. The position of the lower table is continuously monitored by two linear encoders on each side for enhanced control. Additional proximity sensors ensure safe operation for the user and the machine. Similarly to the upper table the design offers fast and easy mold changeovers. The locking of the mold on the lower table is performed by two large air pistons. Vacuum The machine is equipped with a high quality well respected branded vacuum pump. It is manufactured by Busch on the highest standards and it offers reliable operation in the toughest conditions. With a capacity of 200m3/h and vacuum of up to -1 bar complements this thermoforming machine to the maximum. Together with an additional vacuum storage tank of 500lt the machine can cope with any vacuum application. The machine can be programmed to activate any combination of vacuum sources to achieve best results depending on the application. Vacuum can be selected from the pump, the storage tank or a combination from these two. For example the vacuum phase can initiate using only the pump, for smooth material forming, then after few seconds (user selectable) the storage tank is used to fully power vacuum the material. Heating and cooling The machine is equipped with a fully adjustable powerful furnace. The furnace is designed and constructed to the highest standards embedding years of experience. The heat is fully controlled to achieve best results while heating the material. Its operation is also adjustable in width so only the part required is activated (active thermoforming width). On cooling phase five 250mm fans produce a smooth air current so the material is cooled evenly and progressively. The machine is also equipped with plugs for four external fans which the user can place depending the application. These are also controlled automatically by the machine s automation software.

On heating phase the bars are also heated on the user defined temperature.

5 Temperature controlled material holding bars Material non contact temperature sensor The material holding bars are designed in such way so they don t crimple the material while closing on it. Years of experience and development led on the design currently used on this machine. This thermoforming machine futures a non contact infrared laser sensor for monitoring the actual temperature of the material while heated and before formation. This offers a number of advantages as this sensor trigger s thermoforming procedure to initiate only when the exact material temperature is reached. This results in better quality thermoformed products and consistency throughout the production irrelevant to environmental changes. (cool materials and atmosphere in the morning, winter, summer, etc). Another innovation on the design of the material holding bars is the ability to control their temperature, each one individually. On heating phase the bars are also heated on the user defined temperature. This enables heating of the material uniformly thus ensuring better results on thermoforming especially on applications of high extrusion depth near the edges. Heating the material uniformly also ensures end product perimeter will be flat and not bent (bow like bent). Also on applications where one side will experience very high extrusion compared to the others, the corresponding bar temperatures can be individually set for best results. The temperature controlled bars do not stop there. On cooling phase, they are also cooled by air pumped through a special path engraved into them. Also the user can now be confident before thermoforming a material (heating phase) as well as before removing the mold (cooling phase), as the absolute temperature of the subject is known and he will not risk material loss. Furthermore the user can investigate the most appropriate temperature for every application and material (type and thickness) and follow this throughout the production.
