Make sure to handle the jet fan so the fan casing is not deformed. A C 4. Storage The jet fan cannot stand outdoor storage. If the fans are stored indoors under wellventilated conditions with no risk of condensation the storage period is 6 months. The storage space must not be exposed to vibrations likely to damage the motor bearings. If the storage period exceeds 3 months, it is recommended to turn the impeller regularly. Prior to installation check the fan for damages and corrosion. Prior to start of operation make sure there is no condensate in the motor. 5. Installation 5.1 Prior to installation Prior to installing make sure that the impeller rotates freely in the fan casing, wherever possible with equal distance between blade tip and fan casing throughout the circumference. 5.2 Installation The jet fans must be installed so that there is at least 0.5 m to nearest obstruction on the inlet side and at least 2 m to a beam on the outlet side. If the beam is higher than 0.4 m lower the fan correspondingly. The fan is provided with arrows indicating the direction of air flow and rotation. Within a smoke reservoir the jet fans must be fastened to non-flammable ceilings/materials only and must meet current national requirements. When installing make sure that the fans are providing air in the desired direction. In general the jet fans must be suspended/mounted so that there is no risk of falling down during a possible fire. Item 01: Jet fan Item 02: Expansion bolt Item 03: Ceiling Expansion bolts without approval for high temperature must be made from steel, must at least be size M8 and must be mounted twice as deep as recommended, however, at least 60 mm deep. Statically they must not be loaded with a pull of more than 500 N. Dowel nails whose load capacity under fire condition are certified must be mounted and loaded as stated in the approval. The jet fan must be fixed to a horizontal plane with a natural frequency at least 20% from the fan speed. After final installation, make sure that the impeller rotates freely in the fan casing. It is of the utmost importance for the performance and sound level of the jet fan that the air flow is unimpeded and free from eddies. Switch with ON/OFF (AUO/ARO) 6. Commissioning 6.1 Approval (Prior to start of operation) After installation of the jet fans their correct installation, operation and interaction must be established through an approval test. The person responsible for the operation of the system must take the initiative for this test. The approval test must be confirmed and kept by the person responsible for the operation of the system and must for jet fans approved for smoke control be produced whenever asked for. Prior to start of operation check that the fan is clean and free from tools and foreign substances and that the impeller rotate freely. Also ensure that the electric connections meet the national requirements, and that the wire guard on the suction side of the fan and guide vanes on the pressure side are correctly mounted. To check direction of airflow and direction of rotation switch on/off the motor. Please note that the motor may consume more power than stated on the motor plate during the first 30 minutes of the working time of the fan (running-in period). The amperage will depend on the temperature as well. 6.2 Starting procedure Start the fan. Check that no abnormal noises occur. After 30 minutes of operation check that the fan operates normally. ImportantThe fan is designed for continuous operation. The following kinds of operation may cause fatigue break in the impeller and endanger people. - Operation with pulsating counter pressure - called pump mode - Operation with repeated starting and stopping If in doubt Novenco should be contacted to assess the suitability of the fan. 7. Maintenance The user must keep the jet fans in a good and operational condition. In order to ensure the functionality and working life of the fans it is important to observe the following. 7.1 Maintenance of fans Fans for CO-ventilation It is recommended to inspect the fans once a year where the functionality is checked Fans approved for smoke control and used for ventilation on a daily basis must be inspected every six months. Fans only used in case of fire must be inspected four times a year. In any case it is important that the motor manufacturer s maintenance instructions are followed. 7.2 Protection prior to inspection and maintenance Prior to inspection the electric system must be disconnected and secured to prevent the cables to be energised and the fan is not cut in unintentionally. 7.3 Cleaning Clean fans and silencers according to requirement by means of pressurized air or vacuum cleaning. High-pressure water cleaning is not recommended. 7.4 Vibrations From the factory the fan is balanced to run without disturbing vibrations. Vibrations occurring during operation are normally an indication of accumulation of dust and dirt/foreign bodies on the rotor system. If ordinary cleaning does not solve the problem, expert assistance should be called in immediately as constant vibrations can damage both motor bearings and impeller. 4
5 Motor The motor is provided with sealed-forlife bearings which are to be replaced according to the motor manufacturer s instructions. 7.6 Dismounting of motor Prior to commencing the work, follow the procedure in section Figure 5. Dismounting/mounting of motor Procedure for dismounting: (see figure 1 and figure 5) 1 Disconnect supply cable to switch (figure 1, item 06) 2 Support jet fan, remove nuts on the four expansion bolts (figure 5, item 01) and lover the jet fan down from ceiling 3 Remove set screws item 02 (figure 5) and dismount silencers items 03 and 04 (figure 5), (mark locations of silencers so they are not mixed up later on) 4 Disconnect cable from terminal box to motor 5 For type AU-: remove hub cap of impeller figure 5, item 07 by removing screw item 05, and centre disc item 06.
