3 Thermal storage An ice battery having a capacity of 1,760 kwh (500 ton-hour) is used for the short term storage of energy. Winter operation: Ice burn (melt) mode: Ice battery (build) mode: Excess heat rejected stored in ice battery Heat removed from ice battery to provide building heating load Summer operation: The ice in the ice battery is used to satisfy the building s air conditioning load. Other measures Building Automation System (BAS) Yes Efficient lighting (Hockey rink) High-intensity discharge (HID) lamps Metal halide Lighting intensity varied to suit different activities Yes, 3 levels (idle, standard skating and hockey) Project Cost Overall cost of multi-purpose facility construction work, including engineering (before financial assistance): $26 M Financial assistance for energy efficiency Office of Energy Efficiency (through CBIP), CETC-Varennes (through RAPB) Technology Early Action Measure (TEAM)
