4 Danish Technological Institute A self owned and not for profit institution The link between research, education & industry Many different accredited laboratories ISO certified Air handling units, Heat pumps, Fridges & Coolers over Lambda and Radiator laboratories to digital receivers, televisions, Range hoods, Fans, Pumps and Motors. Motor accreditations cover: EU No.: 640/2009, IEC , IEC IEC Circulators, Water pumps & Fans All eco-design regulations & standards

5 Motor compliancy I: European regulation 640/2009 criteria: IEC table + an allowance of additional 15% losses , 75 tests completed (0.75 kw 18.5 kw motors) Method: IEC :2007; P LL determined from residual loss Overall a pass percentage of 59% (IE2 directly measured) But a clear tendency of higher efficiency on motors as market adapts!

6 Motor compliancy II: , 33 tests completed (0.75 kw 30 kw motors) Method updated: IEC :2014; P LL determined from residual loss Since January 2015 & 2017 New requirement IE3! 2015: 7.5 kw Entire range Overall a pass percentage of 39% (Without tolerances) Market in adjustment mode

8 Circulator compliancy I: European regulation 641/2009: Regulation first tier went into force on January 1 st 2013 Tier 1: EEI EEI EEI provided by manufacturer + 7% Second tier effective from August 1 st 2015 Tier 2: EEI EEI EEI provided by manufacturer + 7% 24 circulators to be tested in 2017! 6/30 were fixed speed circulators non compliant 18/24 passed (13/18 also 2015 level) 2 went into three apparatus test

10 Water pump compliancy I: European regulation 547/2012: Regulation first tier went into force on January 1 st 2013 Tier 1: MEI = 0.1 5% tolerance Second tier went into force on January 1 st 2015 Tier 2: MEI = 0.4 5% tolerance All water pumps have passed their current tier MEI 0.4 level forced use of tolerance - Water pump test includes separate motor test!

12 Fan compliancy I: European regulation 327/2011: Regulation first tier went into force on January 1 st 2013 Table 1 to calculate target energy efficiency x 0.9 for tolerance Second tier went into force on January 1 st 2015 Table 2 to calculate target energy efficiency x 0.9 for tolerance 4/14 Fans have failed Additionally 3 needed tolerance - Fan tests include separate motor test!

14 Conclusions: Electric motors Efficiency and regulation on component level Under regulation in Europe for 6 years, in which we have seen a clear increase in efficiency but room for improvement! Circulators Efficiency and regulation on unit level The perfect example on Extended Product Approach (EPA) Regulated in Europe for more than 4 years, market adapting quickly Still many fixed speed circulators in markets!

15 Conclusions: Water pumps Efficiency and regulation on component level (+ motor test) Can be double tested! Regulated in Europe for more than 4 years, so far all passed but second tier forced tolerances Fans Efficiency and regulation on unit level 1 duty point Regulated in Europe for more than 4 years, still many fail, needs adoption of market
