The infrared heat emitted is absorbed by thermal mass (the ceiling, walls, floor, furniture and people) where it is stored and gradually released back into the room. This homogeneous heating of the room results in a pleasant cosy environment where you feel relaxed. As you are warmed directly by the infrared, the room air temperature can be reduced by up to 2-3 C with the same comfort - and each degree Celsius less saves around 6-7% of energy. As a positive side-effect, these warm walls provide better insulation and prevent condensation and in the worst cases mould. Walls that absorb infrared radiation are drier as they absorb less atmospheric moisture, resulting in a more comfortable environment with a constant humidity of 45% to 55% - an absolute benefit for comfort. Allergy sufferers also benefit from infrared heat. Standard heaters warm the air to create a feeling of warmth. The warmer air rises to the ceiling where it is cooled again and sinks back down to the ground, wasting valuable energy and prolonging the warm-up time. These convection currents carry dust particles and allergens and dry out the air even further. This is not the case with infrared heating as objects are heated directly and convection currents are virtually non-existent. 4

5 THE HEATING (R)EVOLUTION Lower heat requirements in well-insulated buildings, rapidly increasing gas and oil prices and the ongoing development of photovoltaic technology are making infrared heating systems a practical alternative. The precisely-timed electronic regulation for individual rooms offers a comfortable and energy-efficient heating method. With infrared heating systems, the heat is generated quickly at the touch of a button and is produced where it is needed, in the room itself, with no energy loss. Electric heating systems are more costeffective to buy and install and do not generate any maintenance costs. They enable innovative and independent heating systems to be combined with one s own power generation system, such as photovoltaic cells. This reduces dependence on oil and gas and offers protection against their future price increases. Historically electric heating has been considered as expensive to run, However, recent technological developments, precisely-ti- med regulation and optimised insulation of outer walls and windows mean that this is no longer the case. On the contrary, if you take into account the true life cost of a heating system (capital investment, installation, operating and on-going maintenance costs) over a 20-year period, LAVA infrared heating turns out to be one of the most convenient and cost-effective heating systems. Even the power suppliers have changed their thinking over the last few years and are now increasingly turning to renewable power. Numerous interesting offers from energy suppliers are enabling customers to help shape the direction of future energy policy. Those who opt for an electric heating system are no longer using up precious resources as it was often claimed. In fact, electric infrared heating is now recommended by some power suppliers as a cleaner, more environmentally-friendly and costefficient source of heating. 5

6 AREAS OF APPLICATION FOR LAVA Infrared radiant heat is a fast, healthy and independent form of heating for the following areas of application: PRIMARY HEATING Ideal as a comprehensive solution for wellinsulated buildings, low energy homes and passive energy buildings. EXTRA HEATING Can be used in addition to existing heating systems. Suitable for renovations, extensions and loft conversions, particularly in bathrooms, relaxation areas, bedrooms, living rooms and conservatories. During the transition periods between the warm and cold months of the year, bathroom heating may only be required for one to two hours in the morning and evening. Switching on the entire heating system for this is both inefficient and expensive. LAVA design infrared heaters, by contrast, enable targeted and precisely-timed heating at only a fraction of the standard heating costs. LOCALISED EXTRA HEATING Ideal for when additional heat is required during a certain time, for example at individual work stations or massage and treatment tables. 6

The LAVA BASIC-DM is a 22 mm flat infrared heater that impresses with its uniform infrared heat and aesthetics. Mounted on the ceiling, in suspended ceilings or on the wall, the heaters are ideally suited for full area heating or zone heating. When installed in suspended ceilings, the heater is fully integrated into the ceiling. Ceiling mounting allows optimal use of the area and avoids any potential damage from bumping the panel. Consisting of two white aluminium profiles and an opal Plexiglass cover for ideal light diffusion, the LAVA -LED is attached to the long sides of the infrared heater. The LAVA -LED is controlled independently of the infrared heater. With the optional dimming module, the LED light bars can be dimmed either by means of a wired wall switch or with a hand transmitter. 9

The 6 mm thick ESG toughened safety glass or the 6 mm special ceramic as well as 2 temperature limiters in all panels guarantee safety in use at all times, the EMIMAX technology turns the surfaces into a very good radiation emitter. In conjunction with the even heat distribution on the surface, the optimally insulated rear guarantees a high radiation efficiency and thus the maximum infrared heat radiation into the room - the heat works exactly where it is needed. The frameless construction creates the modern design. Three surfaces (STEEL / GLASS / CERAMIC) and up to 6 power outputs are available. 18 VERSION 1 RADIO CONTROL BASIC CONTROL LAVA -F: SIMPLER WITH RADIO Radio-controlled thermostats avoid complex elevation and plaster work for cable routing and allow easy installation of heaters. The LAVA -F radio receiver can be quickly fitted to all LAVA 2.0 using the connection system. The receiver is controlled by the ET-14A radio thermostat (sold separately) which can control up to 16 LAVA -F radio receivers. The ET-14A has a programmable week program, frost protection function, manual mode and ON/OFF function. LAVA : PLUG & PLAY BASIC MODULE All LAVA infrared heaters are supplied without control system, but with a plug lead and ON/OFF switch. They are, therefore, ideal for new construction and anywhere where wired room thermostats are used. The Plug & Play connection system (IP65) allows direct connection to a wired room thermostat, easy integration with a radio receiver LAVA -F or direct control of the device with the LAVA -R thermostat or Timer LAVA -T. 19 VERSION 3 ON THE DEVICE LAVA -R: THE INTEGRATED THERMOSTAT All LAVA 2.0 infrared heaters can be fitted with a thermostat which has been developed specifically for infrared heaters. The thermostat controls the room temperature and optimises the surface temperature of the LAVA. Furthermore, the surface temperature in children s rooms and bathrooms, for example, can be limited to 60 C with a switch. The adjustable temperature range is from 5 to 35 C. The LAVA -R thermostat can be easily fitted to all LAVA 2.0 units using the connection system. In combination with the enexho home automation system (more information on page 90), you can also conveniently control your LAVA design infrared heater using a smartphone, tablet or PC when you are out and about. Plug & Play box LAVA -T THE CONVENIENT TIMER All LAVA 2.0 infrared heaters can be fitted with a timer which is specially developed for the temporary operation. By pressing the timer the device heats for 2 hours with maximum power and then switches off automatically. The timer can be switched off early at any time by pressing the button again. The LAVA -T can be easily fitted to all LAVA 2.0 units using the connection system.
