17 MA 489 C & D South East Collegiate AHU-1 & AHU-2 SYSTEM SWITCH "ON" Unit operation is based on an occupancy schedule. In occupied mode the fresh air dampers open fully and once the damper end switch makes, the supply fan starts and runs continuously and the exhaust fan interlock is closed (dry contact). In Unoccupied mode the unit is inoperative. The fresh air damper is closed, and exhaust fan interlock opens. The unit will shut down during a fault or when instructed to shut down by an operator. The discharge air temperature setpoint is adjusted via network or analog input on the controller to any value between 50 F and 90 F. On unit start-up the initial mode of operation will be: Heating if the ambient temperature is less than 50 F or there is a call for heating. Economy if the ambient temperature is between 50 F and 75 F and there is no call for heating Economizer Operation The Economizer is enabled whenever the unit is ON. The unit will operate in purely Economizer Mode when the discharge air temperature deadband is achievable without heating or cooling. If the discharge temperature deviates away from the discharge air temperature setpoint by more than ±3 F (adjustable) for a period of 2 minutes (adjustable), the unit will enter either Mechanical Cooling or Heating Modes (if equipped). Heating Operation Heating Mode is enabled when the Economizer cannot maintain a discharge air temperature of at least 3 F (adjustable) below the discharge air temperature setpoint for a period of 2 minutes (adjustable) or if the Heating Call is set to ON. Heating Mode is locked out when the ambient air temperature is above the High Ambient Heating Lockout Setpoint or when Mechanical Cooling Mode is active. 18 MA 489 C & D South East Collegiate AHU-1 & AHU-2 Once the discharge air temperature PID has been below 1% for a period of 1 minute (adjustable) and/or the heating call is turned off, the unit will transition into Economizer mode if the air entering the burner (outside air) is above 40 F. If the unit starts due to a call for heat, the burner motor starts and purges the heat exchanger for 90 seconds. Following the purge period, the burner ignites, the fresh air damper opens, and once the damper end switch makes, the supply fan starts and runs continuously. The burner modulates to maintain the discharge air temperature as set by the room temperature reset controls. If the unit is already running and subsequently enters heat mode or is called for heat, the fresh air damper will remain open and the supply fan will continue to run, while the burner purges, ignites and warms up. Ignition is always started at high fire. Modulation of the burner begins after the gas valve has been open for 10 seconds. If the run command or contact is opened when the burner has recently been on or is currently on, the unit will remain on to cool the burner, until the discharge temperature is less than 70 F. Shutdown due to a fault, other than an interlock fault (if input exists), is immediate. The burner will be disabled if the burner condensate overflow switch opens. There is a 10 second delay on opening and closing to debounce this switch. When an overflow occurs, the unit will shut down after a normal cool down cycle if the unit was servicing a heat call, otherwise, it will continue running without heating. 19 MA 489 C & D South East Collegiate AHU-1 & AHU-2 ADDITIONAL CONTROLS Heat Trace When the outside air temperature drops below 40 F (adjustable), frost protecting heat trace is powered. Automatic Low Limit If the discharge air temperature falls below the low limit threshold of 40 F, the unit shuts down. A 7 minute time delay on unit start-up allows for a cold start. Automatic High Limit If the discharge air temperature ever goes above the high limit threshold of 150 F, the unit shuts down. A manual reset is required to restart the unit. 35 MA 489 C & D South East Collegiate AHU-1 & AHU-2 ADDITIONAL CONTROLS Heat Trace When the outside air temperature drops below 40 F (adjustable), frost protecting heat trace is powered. Automatic Low Limit If the discharge air temperature falls below the low limit threshold of 40 F, the unit shuts down. A 7 minute time delay on unit start-up allows for a cold start. Automatic High Limit If the discharge air temperature ever goes above the high limit threshold of 150 F, the unit shuts down. A manual reset is required to restart the unit.
