SLEEVELESS VACUUM WITH SEAL-IN V The Unity Vacuum System by Össur elevates vacuum within the socket without the use of a suspension sleeve. This innovative solution eases knee flexion while increasing available range of motion and comfort. Designed specifically for elevated vacuum application, the Seal-In V liner with dual sealing membrane provides a secure seal inside the socket. The internal seal eliminates risk of punctures and leaks typically encountered with conventional sleevedependent vacuum systems. Soft and compliant silicone construction provides close fit distally, even pressure distribution and superior cushioning properties. By applying vacuum to the distal soft tissues, volume stability is maintained where it is needed the most throughout the day. With two different seal heights available, Seal-In V optimises elevated vacuum for a variety of limb lengths. LIGHT WEIGHT AND EFFICIENT WITH FLEX-FOOT PERFORMANCE By harnessing deflection of the Carbon-X Active Heel, the Unity vacuum pump draws air out of the socket and elevates vacuum up to 22inHG within a few steps. Adding only 130g to the overall weight of the foot module, the Unity vacuum pump is a light weight solution. Directly attached to the foot module, the pump is discreetly housed within the foot shell and does not add bulk or detract from the cosmetic appearance of the prosthesis. Because the vacuum pump is not dependent upon any additional shock or rotation elements, the Unity system is easily incorporated into a variety of Flex-Foot models. A wide range of dynamic Flex-Foot solutions are available with the Unity Vacuum System to meet all lifestyle and activity requirements. 3 ICEROSS SEAL-IN V Specially designed for elevated vacuum application, the Seal-In V incorporates a dual-sealing membrane and volume adaptive blades. Two sealing membranes provide enhanced security to prevent leaks. If volume changes, the volume adaptive blades consistently press the seal against the socket wall and prevent the seal from folding. Seal-In V is available with the seal at two different heights. The variant should be used for longer limb lengths. The Seal-In V is composed of DermoGel silicone which provides the best distal compliance and cushioning available from Össur. The Wave feature enhances the elasticity of the liner to provide easier and greater knee flexion. Active Skin care ingredients and the Silken Inner Surface nourish and protect the skin. Seal-In V is also compatible with expulsion valve socket fittings. For these fittings, we recommend using the L expulsion valve with Seal-In V. The correct Flex-Foot category needs to be selected as usual. However, the Unity system itself is not categorised it harvests tiny amounts of energy from heel motion, unlike other systems which tend to draw on the shock absorption mechanism. CAN I STILL USE WEDGES TO ADJUST HEEL STIFFNESS? Yes, it is still possible to use the heel wedges. They are inserted into the heel and do not interfere with the heel pad or pump mechanism. ARE THERE ANY CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR USE? 4 UNITY The Unity system has a tri-function valve which enables an effective vacuum to be achieved easily, quickly and automatically, within a few gentle steps. Equally important to the user is the release function just press the button and the vacuum is released instantly. EXPULSION lets air through easily when donning the socket FRAME & SUPPORT BLADE The support blade is attached to the foot (proximally) while the frame sits in the heel pad. The two are fixed to each other where they meet, close to the middle of the foot. The frame and support blade are designed in a way that when weight is placed on the heel of the prosthetic foot the frame moves upward and the support blade moves downwards, thus pulling and expanding the membrane between them. CHECK VALVES When air is efficiently drawn out from the socket at each step, the check valves ensure that the air does not flow back into the socket. VACUUM BYPASS lets air into the vacuum pump via a check valve, so the socket is still airtight in the unlikely event of tube failure HEEL PAD The heel pad acts as a secure support for Unity s upper blade, and as a bumper (stop) for heel displacement at high load. MEMBRANE The membrane pump mechanism is located between the two blades. When the membrane expands, air is efficiently drawn out of the socket. RELEASE BUTTON lets in air, so the vacuum is easily released for doffing the prosthesis LIGHT DYNAMIC COMFORTABLE The evolution of Unity We hear the same thing from a lot of customers whose patients want the security and freedom of vacuum suspension, but without the sensation and restrictions of a sleeve. They want a system that can address volume fluctuations and they also want a system that s compatible with Flex-Foot technology. So, we began to explore how we could build on the Iceross Seal-In V, already a successful suspension liner in its own right. The integrated seal provides a natural boundary for distal vacuum and it is there, at the distal end, where the soft tissues are least stable. We didn t want to compromise the function of our Flex-Foot shock units, so we designed a pump that would operate independently, one that required minimal loading to achieve a powerful vacuum. With Unity, the pump is operated using a fraction of the energy harvested by the heel of the foot. The whole system weighs only 130g. When you combine that factor with better socket fit and the dynamics of a Flex- Foot, you get a very light and responsive feel, something that s been borne out by our user testing and feedback.
