In particular, we have made great strides in the use of renewable energies through our cutting edge systems. Geothermal Air Conditioner and Heater By using geothermal energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, this high-efficiency Standard Inverter technology allows the uninterrupted flow of the magnetic field within the motor of the compressor in the outdoor unit. Green Product Evaluation System The Eco Index The Eco-Index is LG s own rating system for managing environmental performance and goal setting. This quantifies the eco design level of products in terms of their eco-consciousness (Green 1-Star, 2-Star and 3-Star). The Green Index measures three areas of product footprints such as impact on the Climate, as well as the Chemicals and Materials used. We will continue to increase the number of products that achieves the highest Eco-Index. Evaluating the Carbon Footprint of the Product Process Since 2002, LG has been conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to evaluate its carbon footprint and to fully utilise LCA to develop low carbon products. In 2011, LG built the Life Cycle Inventory Database(LCI DB) for eight product categories(tv, monitors, washing machines, refrigerators, LED, solar modules, mobile phones and commercial air conditioning systems). Green R&D Investment LG established environmental accounting guidelines in 2009 for green R&D investment. LG invested KRW 808 billion in Green R&D in The majority of the investment was used for improving product energy efficiency and improving resource efficiency. Green Technologies LG has been conducting R&D to reduce the environmental impact of products by; developing a range of highly efficient products; replacing hazardous substances in products; improving product design to facilitate recycling; and establishing an infrastructure that enables the development of green products and technologies. High-efficiency Central Air Conditioning System Using eco design for every part of the product has improved the energy efficiency of this air conditioning system. It features the world s first heat exchanger, providing continuous heating, as well as one of the first high-efficiency, high-pressure inverter compressor. High-performance, High-efficiency Inverter Heat Pump Air Conditioner These compact outdoor units feature enhanced heating and cooling technology, low-noise indoor units and a highly efficient inverter heat pump, with up to 115% cost savings compared to constant-speed air conditioners. Hybrid Solar Air Conditioner This product incorporates the energy efficiency enhancement of a power saving inverter as well as allowing for a 100% solar powered air purifier function and a 15% solar powered cooling function. There is also a Human Care Robot, a Green-tea HEPA and Platinoid enzyme filters
