BATTLE CREEK - APARTMENT BUILDING AND RESTAURANT / Project Number C Plans for this $10 million project include a 42 unit apartment building and a 3,900 square foot restaurant. Construction is anticipated to begin in October of O Connor Development LLC out of Grand Rapids is the developer and Integrated Architecture out of Grand Rapids is working on the design. MARQUETTE - RENOVATIONS AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE JACOBETTI CENTER FOR NORTHERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY / Project Number This $28.6 million project is in the early planning stages and the construction schedule has not yet been determined. Plans for the project call for creating more than 40 specialized labs and classrooms for education in skilled trades. Design firms have not been selected yet. ANN ARBOR - LARGE SCALE MIXED USE HIGH RISE / Project Number Developers Cerca Trova LLC along with CA Ventures have submitted design plans to the City of Ann Arbor for this 19 story mixed use high rise including 241 apartments, 7,680 square feet of open space, 121 parking spaces, electronic vehicle charging stations, bike parking, a leasing office, a lobby, and over 6,000 square feet of retail space. The focal points of the project include the mid-block pedestrian connection and the two-story, 3,500 square foot, sky lounge along with the 2,000 square foot outdoor sky terrace on the 18th floor. ESG Architecture & Design out of Minneapolis and J Bradley Moore & Associates out of Ann Arbor are working on the project s design. FLINT - NEW ADMINISTRATION AND REGIONAL CENTER / Project Number A space needs analysis was completed in August 2018 by Redstone Architects out of Bloomfield Hills. The combined project estimate is $57.8 million including $32.8 million for a new administration building and $25 million for a new regional center. This project is in the early planning stages. NORTHVILLE LARGE SCALE HEADQUARTERS FOR AN AUTO SUPPLIER / Project Number F Cunningham Limp out of Novi is the construction management firm working on this 110,000 square foot, 3 story global headquarters. Lindhout Associates Architects out of Brighton is also working on the plans for this $15.3 million project. SOUTH LYON LARGE SCALE SENIOR LIVING FACILITY / Project Number This three story, 132 unit independent senior living community is in the conceptual stage and most likely won t be bid until spring or summer with construction slated to begin during the summer of RDL Architects and PEA Inc. are working on the project s design and Lockwood Companies is the general contractor. YPSILANTI - RENOVATIONS OF JONES AND GODDARD HALL FOR EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY / Project Number C4 This project has been recommended by the board of regents for the fiscal year 2020 State Capital Outlay Plan. The project estimated construction cost is $43 million. The project consists of phase II of the renovations of Jones and Goddard Hall and includes selective demolition of both Jones and Goddard halls to provide the renovation of 44,000 square feet within Jones Hall and 26,000 square feet addition from the existing open courtyard space between the two buildings. TROY - LARGE SCALE APARTMENT DEVELOPMENT / Project Number This $20 million project consists of 2 three-story buildings that total approximately 110,000 square feet. The development will consist of 114 apartment units. Nowak & Fraus Engineers and Alexander V Bogaerts & Associates are working on the plans for the project.? Green walls have emerged as another approach to living in a more environmentally friendly community. Green walls, also known as living walls or vertical gardens, use plants as a natural airfiltration system. This improved air quality can lead to better overall employee health and productivity when green walls are installed in an office setting. Living walls metabolize many of the harmful toxins in the air in most standard working environments, such as formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, VOCs, and benzene, and release oxygen in return. Living walls can even reduce noise levels. The installation of a green wall can earn a building LEED points, which can increase the value of the property and earn commercial companies tax credits, depending on their overall rating. In addition to being beneficial to employee health, green walls reduce energy costs by acting as a natural insulator, therefore keeping the building cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Studies have shown that they can even help purify grey water, or water that is relatively clean from baths, sinks, washing machines, and other kitchen appliances, to be reused for toilet flushing or irrigation. Outdoor green walls also influence the heat-island effect in the city, by reducing overall temperatures and protecting a building from solar radiation. 9
