PARCO NORD MILANO Emonfur 2013 EFUF Environmental Education & Cultural Aspects Tour
THE BUNKER EDUCATIONALISTS WITH Tomaso Columbo Massimo Urso Marco Segabrugo & Giovana Carbonara AND.Francesco Borella, The Main Man!
Parco Nord Milano WHAT The group was asked..>>> IS THE IDENTITY OF THIS PARK??
What is the Identity of this park? (The Question posed to the working group ) how can we get people to understand the complexity of what they simply walk or run or bike through??
The Discussion was to focus on. THE SIX W MEANINGS. W WIDE W WILD W WISE W WEAK W WANTED WAR W?
. Wide.. The Huge Dimension of Nature in the Park you may feel you can get lost but you never really do. Can the whole Park be user- friendly? There are stars in the darkness, long views to the mountains, the city lights and roads. Can different areas be given individual special identities to connect People and Places perhaps? special tree identity areas? Signs? QR tags? Safe, children s play-learn site, site specific game - making, Treasure hunting. Suit level of activity to age groups.
. WILD - Nature may have hidden surprises if people can be tempted to linger and look. Plan special areas where people can feel at home with Nature The flowers, birds, beasts and mini beasts and bugs, bees and dragon flies. See the wild! These already feature in the schools area Can links be made at other locations Its Eek- o- logical! Nature s magic! Learn to see by use of ecological games and focus points, hearing and seeing. Use of all The Senses is to be encouraged.
. WISE Nothing in the park has happened by chance. The landscape was drawn onto a blank canvas. How, Why, What, Where and When? These were the questions the bunker team asked during the walk This is a story that needs to be told somehow, in pictures, words, games and experiences dig, plant, build dens, shelters. Link the past and present
. WEAKness The fragility of the eco-systems need protection. Some areas need to be protected from too many visitors to keep the established and establishing eco-systems intact. This can be achieved by design. Already prickly, woodland edge planting is used to deter entry to some areas, but maybe people could be drawn ( by design) to honey-pot areas or areas where people in large numbers can be better tolerated? Mown paths through meadows away from special, fragile areas Colourful banners placed in action areas Seating in safe places with gardenesque planting in colour
. WANTED: some people are dedicating their brains, their hands, their feet, their hearts and THEIR TIME. What about YOU?? There are many people who are dedicated to this Park Can others be encouraged to help? volunteer management Leaders for study days, school teachers trained to use the Park areas Can Visitors be encouraged to respect the efforts of volunteers and staff? Minimise vandalism or misuse, keep the Park tidy Clear graffiti where unwanted Light strategic areas well.
. WAR - plants lengthen their roots in the scars of the second world war! The site was the factory - it was Breda. The remnants of this legacy are important. the site management needs to take account of the remnants of the heritage that survive - it is all part of the story... As in the Bunker - pictures, sounds, words and experience. Fill the Senses
Descent into the air-raid shelters built for the workers at the Breda Factory
Images lining the walls underground show the workers from the factory which once stood where now a Park has been created.
The EFUF working group. Discussing positive Educational proposals for use in the Park
In conclusion the proposals are :- From a place of War to a place of Peace Promote the wide appeal, tell the stories. Prepare for the future - wild and safe. Protect, by design, the natural & vulnerable corridors design out the weakness. Prepare the staff and train the volunteers Give them the Wisdom to pass on to visitors. Be Playful, make learning fun! Then it will be Wanted by more people who will participate at many levels.
- Parco Nord Milano. We had a great time, thanks to Tomaso Columba Massimo Urso Marco Segabrugo & Giovana Carbonara Sunshine, a warm welcome, good company and a wonderful Park. Presented Friday 10 th May 2013, Boscoincittà. Milan
