15 ITOH peonies are a cross between herbaceous garden peonies and woody tree peonies resulting in the positive attributes of both. ITOH peonies have the herbaceous habit, hardiness and higher bud count of garden peonies and the unique colors and larger flowers of tree peonies They grow best in full sun but flowers will last longer in part shade. Buds come from underground AND from the lower part of the stem. Because of this do NOT cut back ITOH peonies all the way to the ground in the fall.
