It overhangs the roofs of the shops below, letting in fresh air while keeping out the rain. Construction has been completed and our bright, airy Art Street is is bustling with business again. However, the transformation is still underway. Still to come are display racks and tables, specially designed by SPRING Singapore and colourful signage and lighting that will make the street even better looking and a better experience for you and your fellow shoppers. 7 Mr Christopher de Souza at the garden on a recent visit to Ghim Moh Valley. A new garden in Ghim Moh he newest community garden in our own is just two months old. All thirteen plots have been taken up and already the gardeners have formed a little 'community'. hey share their knowledge, their seeds, and, in a few weeks will probably be Mdm Ng Siew Ying has planted a Keng Hwa cutting in the corner of her plot. It has a beautiful white flower that blooms at midnight and has a wonderful scent. She loves gardening and grows orchids in the corridor outside her flat. hey bloom very well up there. he air is cooling and good for orchids. Mr & Mrs Ng Choon Ho planted beans. We just covered our plot with coffee grounds, then scattered the beans on top, said Mrs Ng. What you see here grew in just six days. Like most of the gardeners she usually comes down between 5 and 6pm to water her patch. We like to eat organic vegetables, she said. sharing the fruits of their labour. It's very obviously a labour of love. Pepper, moringa, keng hwa, purple basil, marigold, chilli, pandan, sweet potatoe everyone grows just what they like and practically everyone seems to like beans! Mr Steven Chia Kim Sian grew up living in a kampong in Bedok. Everybody was living in a kampong back then. We all grew things. So nowadays, if I can help, I'll tell you what I know. Exchanging knowledge seems to be a key to happy community gardening. And with a man like Steven caring for his sweet potatoes in a patch near yours, you can learn a lot! Mr an hong Hai has a black pepper plant growing in the corner of his plot where he has beans growing. hey provide some shade for the other seedlings. hey also fix nitrogen in the soil. Where did he learn that? You can read things up in books and on the Internet. he seed venders also give you lots of information. he garden has weather-proof paths between the plots. Mr & Mrs Johnny an Bock Seng beside their patch. But I do most of the work, he said. When I come home from work! He's growing pandan, beans and has a little lime tree coming along nicely. He said a small group of fellow enthusiasts went to the RC to ask for this community garden. he own Council built it and now, We're asking the RC if it can be made bigger, or another built nearby.
