6 Objectives of the Solar O&M Best Practices Mark An effective dissemination tool that creates more transparency in the market incentivises O&M providers to adopt best practices helps asset owners to make decisions based on excellence 6

7 Inspirations for the Solar O&M Best Practices Mark Our approach We took inspiration from the Solar ScoreCard and the EU s CE marking, both substantially based on selfdeclarations The Solar ScoreCard is a resource for consumers that reveals the sustainability of PV modules. It s managed by the The Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition (SVTC) and it s based on an annual survey of manufacturers, as well as on prior survey responses, interviews, news stories, and publicly available data. The CE marking is a scheme of the EU that indicates that certain products comply with certain safety, health and environmental requirements. To affix the CE marking to a product, the manufacturer must put together a technical dossier proving that it fulfils all the EU-wide requirements. In most cases, the product's manufacturer bears sole responsibility for declaring conformity with all requirements. The dossier has to be made available to distributors, importers etc. upon request. 7

Participating O&M Contractors benefit from Excellence: demonstrate their excellence vis-à-vis potential clients Credibility: O&M contractors share their technical documentation upon request thereby proving their excellence Visibility: Mark displayed on company website and company profile listed on Asset owners and lenders benefit from Transparency: the Mark helps asset owners and lenders to take decisions based on excellence by creating more transparency in the market Reliability: asset owners and lenders can verify O&M contractors excellence by gaining insight in the technical dossier Increase service quality: asset owners are encouraged to ask their O&M contractors to adopt the Mark thus increasing their service quality 9
