2 The purpose of the Contractor ESH briefing is for LMSSC to provide information to all contractors (L1 & L2 - non-lm employees) with key ESH items and protocols to safeguard you, our employees and environment while working at LMSSC. This briefing is required one time for Level 1 contractors and annually for all Level 2 contractors; and access to our facilities is depended on its completion L1 Contractors: Contractor with no ESH-related activity (e.g., vending machine restocking, copier maintenance in non-hazardous locations, office tasks, meetings/presentations, tours, demonstrations, deliveries related to blanket purchases of non-hazardous material, non-dangerous and standard deliveries, or calibration of equipment in non-hazardous locations). L2 Contractors: Contractors with ESH-related activity (e.g., construction, renovation, repair, maintenance, custodial work, environmental remediation, work with hazardous chemicals, or work in potentially hazardous locations) 2

3 The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 guarantees you the right to a safe, healthy work environment. The Act allows all employees to know the hazards they may encounter on the job and the steps they can take to protect themselves. Maintaining a safe work environment requires your cooperation: Learn about potential hazards Practice safety Use all required safeguards Correct and report unsafe condition Enforce all regulatory requirements Comply with LMSSC polices and procedures 3

6 Use of all tobacco products is prohibited on LMSSC property Use of LMSSC vehicles is prohibited (e.g. vans, trucks, bicycles, etc.) Use of LM equipment (e.g. portable ladders, cranes, aerial lifts, tools, fire extinguishers, etc.) is prohibited Aisles, hallways, stairways, electrical panels, fire suppression equipment, etc. shall be kept clear at all times Always follow good housekeeping practices. Clean as you go Weapons, drugs, camera, recording devices, and pornographic material are prohibited 6

7 Obey all traffic rules Watch out for pedestrians and bicyclists Unless otherwise posted, the speed limit is 25 mph Park only in marked locations Do not enter or park in areas that are barricaded or roped off Use of hands free communication devices is required while operating vehicles Texting while driving is prohibited 7

8 Report all emergencies, incidents, and accidents Dial 911 from a house phone to report an emergency For non-emergencies and incident reporting Dial :

9 Shut off electrical equipment and collect personal belongings, only if it is safe to do so Leave the building using the nearest safe exit Use stairs, not elevators After evacuating the building, use designated exit routes and proceed to assembly areas Stay at least 75 feet from buildings Reenter the building only when given the all clear by LM Example Fire Alarm Horn/Strobe 9

10 Report all illnesses and injuries to your supervisor Your employer is responsible for providing medical services for illnesses and injuries occurring on the job Dial 911 from a house phone to report life threatening emergencies Contractor supervisor required to notify LMPOC of illnesses and injuries occurring at LMSSC 10

11 Potential hazards you may encounter at LMSSC: Hazardous materials / hazardous waste Ionizing / non-ionizing radiation Cryogenics Noise Hazardous energy 11

12 Liquid and gaseous nitrogen are used Potential hazards: Frostbite Low oxygen (making it unsafe to breathe) If an oxygen alarm sounds, evacuate the area immediately and move to an area that is NOT in alarm. You do not need to leave the building. If you see a vapor cloud forming due to liquid and gaseous nitrogen evacuate the area immediately 12

13 The contractor shall coordinate with the LM POC and/or LM ESH for the management of all waste generated by the project. In addition, both the management and the disposal of regulated waste shall be coordinated by LM ESH. This coordination should occur prior to the start of the project. MSDSs must be provided to LMSSC prior to beginning work Chemical containers must be clearly labeled Secondary containment required for all liquid hazardous materials Materials shall not be poured down the storm drain, sanitary sewer, onto the ground or pavement 13

14 Only qualified personnel permitted to work on in near electrical systems Extension cords: Are permitted on a temporary basis only Shall be in good condition Shall not be daisy chained Shall not be routed through doors, windows Energized electrical circuits and equipment shall be put into an electrically safe work condition before performing electrical work Live work shall be coordinated with LM and documented on contractor's Energized Electrical Work Permit 14

15 Contractors and LM shall exchange information about their respective LOTO programs and ensure that all personnel on the job-site understand and comply with the restrictions and prohibitions of each energy control programs Contractor shall never remove another persons locks and tags LOTO tags shall contain: contact information, such as Contractor name, phone number, and name of person applying the LOTO 15

16 Contractor shall coordinate with LM FO&S that all utilities (electrical, natural gas, water, etc.) are shut off, capped, or otherwise controlled Demolition work shall at all times be under the immediate supervision of a competent person Minimize emission/spread of dust and or other contaminants into occupied spaces (e.g., vacuum cleaning instead of sweeping, separation of work area from occupied space using plastic barriers) 16

17 Contractor shall obtain Hot Work Permit from LM Responsible Authority prior to performing hot work (e.g. electric or gas welding, cutting, brazing, or similar flame or spark-producing operations) Personnel performing the hot work must provide a fire watch, trained in extinguisher use, with an appropriate fire extinguisher to monitor the hot work area. After completion of the hot work, the permit shall be signed off by Contractor and returned to the permit issuer 17

18 Contactor shall provide PPE for their personnel Contractors required to don appropriate PPE (e.g., safety glasses, hard hats, hearing protection, respirators, safety shoes, fall protection, safety vests, etc.) Contractor shall post the job site entry points with signs defining the PPE required by personnel entering the job site 18
