2 G4S GUIDES STANDARDS Most professional security products are tested according to international standards. This is ideal for the user, supplier and consultant, as it makes it possible to actually compare products. G4S Academy provides overviews of the standards we primarily employ. More information about the standards is available at SIS in Sweden ( and Danish Standards in Denmark ( We also use the British Standards Institution ( The overall authority for these standards is the European Committee for Standardization CEN ( The international trade organization behind the standards is the International Security Association ESSA ( Leading testing institutions include: VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH ( and SP Technical Research Institute ( The Danish Insurance Agency (DIA) discontinued the standard thief method as of December 31, This meant it was no longer possible to test security products or make minor changes to existing products, and that registration of security products was only accepted for two years up to December 31, Products tested according to the standard thief method that have not subsequently been tested by an approved standard (usually the European Norms EN standard) and reregistered will be placed on the list of discontinued products after December 31, Discontinued products may not be used in new installations. This means that suppliers, consultants and users must comply with the EN standards in future.

4 1. ANTIRAM PROTECTION ASTM US F ASTM TEST/SPEED KM/H ASTM VEHICLES ASTM PENETRATION DISTANCE DOS US SDSTD 1985 DOS PENETRATION DISTANCE PAS 68 GBR 20 PAS 68 VEHICLES PAS TEST TEST/SPEED KM/H C40 NOT C50 C60 PU40 PU50 PU60 M30 M40 M50 H30 H SMALL PASSENGER CAR 1,0 KG LARGE PASSENGER CAR 4 4 2,300 KG MEDIUM DUTY TRUCK 6,8 KG P1 LESS THAN 1.00 METER P TO 7 P TO 30 P4 MORE THAN 30 H50 HEAVY GOODS VEHICLE 29,500 KG K4 K8 K12 M1 SMALL PASSENGER CAR 1,500 KG L3 LESS THAN METER L TO 6.1 L1 6.1 TO 15.3 M2 LARGE PASSENGER CAR 4 4 2,500 KG 16/32/48/64/80/96/112 16/32/48/64/80/96/112 N1 PICKUP TRUCK 3,500 KG 16/32 48/64 80/96 N2 MEDIUM DUTY TRUCK 7,500 KG/2 AXLES N3 HEAVY GOODS VEHICLE 18,000 KG/2 AXLES & 32,000 KG/4 AXLES 16/32/48/64 16/32/48/64/80 The classification is broken down into primary groups and secondary groups as follows: Example A: PAS 68 N / 90:3.3/18.9 in which the secondary group indicates that the vehicle s weight was 7,500 kg and speed was 32 km/h while the primary group is the PAS 68 standard with N2 classification. The secondary group indicates that the angle of collision was 90 degrees, the front penetrated 3.3 meters beyond the bollard and large fragments landed 18.9 meters beyond the bollard. Example B: ASTM M30 P2 in which the secondary group indicates that maximum penetration was 1.01 to 7.00 meters. The vehicle s weight was 6,8 kg and the speed was 28.0 to 37.9 km/h. The primary group indicates that it is the ASTM standard with M30 classification. The decision regarding which solution is required should be based on a risk assessment of the type of vehicle and how much speed can be achieved before collision. The ASTM and DoS standards also make it possible to assess how far the vehicle (or parts of the vehicle) will pass beyond the antiram protection measure after collision (called penetration distance in the chart). This is relevant information for placement of the antiram solution. The distance between the bollards also needs to be included in the requirements specification.
