7 Application Example: Non Contact Baby Monitoring WHAT: Non contact baby monitor that provide respiration data with breathing stop alarm, real time status on sleep/awake and factual metrics on sleep quantity over time. WHY: Ensure baby does not experience undetected breathing stop. Additionally insufficient sleep for babies is a long term health and day time problem. Presented with real time status and long term facts on how much and how well a baby sleeps, parents will be able to improve it. HOW: A XeThru sensor tracks respiration and movement throughout the night and the XeThru Sleep analysis output sleep/awake state. 13

22 UWB Safe to Use Safety Regulations The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) defines Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) limits for electromagnetic fields, to prevent whole-body heat stress and excessive localized tissue heating. SAR is defined as the power absorbed per mass of tissue, with the units of watts per kilogram (W/kg). ICNIRP states that the reference levels were developed with the safety of extra sensitive population groups, such as elderly, infants and younger children, in mind. XeThru Test Results The Novelda XeThru sensor measures distance to objects with high sensitivity and accuracy. This is done by emitting very low energy impulses and measuring the time of flight. The amount of energy allowed to send is defined by regulatory agencies around the world. Exploring the regulatory safety limits and comparing the XeThru technology with other technologies. The evaluated XeThru sensor is found to emit 486 times less energy than the regulations allow and a sensor at 0.4 meters corresponds to a 5 GHz WIFI transmitter at 44 meters. 86
