The Intruder Alarm Handbook This booklet is published to provide assistance in both understanding the systems we provide, together with details of what is required by Dragon Security Systems, its customers and where applicable British Telecom and an Alarm Receiving Centre, to ensure that Police time is not wasted so that customers can rely upon a vastly improved service. The proposal is to be read in conjunction with this booklet and the "Terms and Conditions" supplied. Sections in this publication Specification Notes Control Equipment Detection Devices Signalling Equipment General Information Alarm Receiving Centre (procedure for handling alarm activation s) National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) Keyholders British Telecom ADSL Service Provider Allocation of IP addresses Health & Safety Glossary Prevention of False Alarms What to do In an Alarm Condition Emergency Response Useful Numbers

Specification Notes These notes are general and may not apply to all installations. If in any doubt please ask for clarification. Unless specified otherwise, the positions of devices in the specification are described by an external observer looking towards the front of the premises. Dragon Security Systems is approved by the National Security Inspectorate (N.S.I.) and is authorised to issue to its customers, a certificate of compliance where applicable. Intruder Alarms are installed to current regulations including EN , BS8243 & PD6662 currently in force and designed to give automatic warning by audible and visual alarm and where specified, will also incorporate signalling to the Police via an Alarm Receiving Centre. Control Equipment 1 Control Panels are mains operated, Volt DC and are complete with rechargeable stand-by batteries, capable of powering the system for a minimum of twelve hours in the event of a mains failure. 2 A remote keypad is a small unit connected to the main control panel and provides set / unset functions at other locations in the premises. Detection Devices 1 Magnetic contacts are switches designed to detect movement greater than 100mm by the normal opening method and are usually fitted to windows and doors. 2 Passive lnfra-red detectors are usually fitted in corners of rooms and are designed to activate the system when a change in infra-red heat is detected within its field of view, typically 12 metres x 90 degrees and mounted at a height of metres. Windows and doors should be kept shut at all times, when the system is set. 3 Dual Technology detectors provide additional stability to the system by combining the features of the passive infra-red detector with either microwave or ultrasonic, which together have to be activated to create an alarm activation 4 Detection devices fitted in such areas as bedrooms and landings etc; can be deleted from the system as required, e.g. when retiring at night. In a majority of cases this can be programmed into the controls for ease of use, this can be discussed with the surveyor or installation engineer. 5 For continued efficiency, space detection devices (e.g. passive infra-red detector) must be "walk tested" by the customer at least once a week and report any failure to Dragon Security Systems. 6 "Glass Break" detectors are designed to detect the high frequency sound when glass is smashed and therefore cannot be subjected to a 100% test. The level of detection quality will be tested during each preventative maintenance visit but performance may vary slightly according to environmental conditions. 7 Personal Attack Buttons are manually operated at anytime without the need to have the alarm system switched on. 8 Note: Wire free (radio) detection devices will go to sleep for up to 6 minutes following movement detection to help conserve battery life.

9 Domestic Installation Smoke Detection the system may incorporate wire free smoke detectors which are live 24 hours every day, which when fitted to a signalled control system transmit a fire identified signal to the ARC who will take the appropriate pre-determined action. This type of detector is continually monitored by the control system, which will report low battery conditions. Signalling Equipment Note: Signalled (not audible only) alarm systems automatically pass activations to our Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) via one of the following signalling types (1 6). Our chosen ARC is Advanced Independent Monitoring (Aim) of Manchester, who will upon receipt of an activation signal, apply their own internal filtering procedures and pass details of the activation to the Police and or key holders as specified. These are contract specific and may vary. Any live external alarm sounders will NOT have an operational delay. Important Your attention is drawn to the fact that any failure, or compromise of single path signalling cannot be passed to the Police. While the failure persists, subsequent alarms cannot be signalled to the ARC and passed to the Police. 1 RedCARE (single path) signalling units transmit a continuous identifying code to an Alarm Receiving Centre via a normal British Telecom telephone line. This unit is installed by us. The receiving equipment identifies the loss of a line almost instantaneously. Telephone line faults are the responsibility of British Telecom. 2 RedCARE GSM (dual path) has the identical attributes as RedCARE but has the additional ability to automatically signal via the GSM telephone network when & if the landline is disabled. 3 Digital Communicators (single path) signal to an Alarm Receiving Centre via a normal British Telecom telephone line. This unit is installed by us. This method of signalling is wholly dependent upon the integrity of the telephone line itself; however modern systems now automatically send a continuity signal once in every 24hrs. to check that the signalling path is intact. 4 Digi Air (single path) is the same as a Digital Communicator save that it is connected to the cellular network and therefore does not require a normal telephone line. 5 DualCOM (dual path) has the identical attributes as a digital communicator but has the additional ability to automatically signal via the GSM telephone network when & if the landline is disabled. 6 Emizon 21 (dual path) is an ip based system signalling system utilising the broadband network as the primary path and has the additional ability to automatically signal via the GSM/GPRS telephone network if the broadband path is disabled. The unit contains a network roaming SIM to ensure a good GSM signal strength. The unit will utilize a maximum of 20MB per month internet usage. During setup this unit will automatically request an IP address from the clients DHCP server. It is therefore imperative that prior to installation, fixed or static addresses for any existing equipment on site be excluded from assignment by the DHCP service to avoid conflicts occurring. The client should consult with his IT manager or sub contractor for clarification.

7 Special Notes Relating To Remote Signalling to an Alarm Receiving Centre: ALL references in this document relate to British Telecom telephone lines. Connections to other service providers are often problematical, therefore Dragon Security Systems only recommends British Telecom as a suitable alarm signal carrier. Where a British Telecom telephone line is required, it is incumbent upon the customer to ensure that the line can be accessed within 2 metres of the control position. GSM, GPRS and Digi Air signalling are entirely dependent upon the signal strength of the cellular network in the area. For customers requiring a standalone GSM module. We will require a voice & data enabled SIM card which must be supplied by the customer in advance of the installation and be subject to a contract. Pay as you go SIM cards are unacceptable. 8 We would point out that if the Police receive an excessive number of unwanted alarms and line faults this could result in them reviewing their response. This may leave you without the benefit of signalling to the Police. It is therefore in your interest to be aware of the causes of false alarms and to minimise the risk of their occurrence. 9 Internal Warning Devices or extension speakers, generate extra volume to deter intruders, and provide entry / exit tones. To conserve battery life, wire free sounders / speakers operate for a shorter duration. 10 External Warning Device is an electronic howler housed in a ENV CL4 cover. In the event of an alarm activation emanating from a hard-wired alarm system, the howler is set to operate for a maximum period of 10 minutes. The European standard EN50131 notification 8.6, states that the maximum time allowance is 15 minutes. This unit also incorporates a strobe light. To conserve battery life, wire free sounders operate for a shorter duration. 11 A speech dialler unit is usually installed adjacent to the alarm controls. This unit will automatically dial to any one of 3 key holder numbers in sequence (999 and other emergency numbers are not permitted) to report an alarm activation. Messages and numbers are programmable and can be changed by the customer. Please note the recipient of the alarm activation message must have a tone dialling telephone with which to cancel the call. The customer is to ensure that a British Telecom analogue exchange line & socket is provided within 2 metres of the control panel. 12 Special Notes Relating to Non Regulated Signalling Methods: There now exists several alternative methods of Off Site Signalling Dragon Security Systems considers these to be of advisory use only and on NO ACCOUNT should they be considered as a Prime Signalling Method. It is not permitted to program these systems to automatically signal to any emergency service. Serious consequences may result. Typical Examples are:- Speech Diallers (see item 10 above) Mobile Phone Diallers SMS Messaging Mobile phone apps Mobile phone apps are downloaded from the internet and connected by the same to the premises via a cloud based connection set up by the installing engineer. They do require the code number to be entered when operating so are deemed secure.

Apps can enable the remote setting & unsetting of the system and will also receive alarms. They can also receive images from CCTV cameras at the premises when these are enabled. It should also be noted that in some instances, Wi-Fi modules are used to connect systems to the internet by way of the customers broadband router. Following a mains failure or Telecom working, the address of the router may change unless the customer has arranged for a fixed ip address from their supplier. Dragon Security has no contractual obligation if this occurs. General Information 1 All types of external detectors can be triggered by trees, bushes, animals, birds and adverse weather conditions. Following activation, once the detection area is clear, the units will reset. Bulbs and lamps are not covered by guarantee. 2 The recommendations contained within this specification, are made giving consideration to the security of the property with the information at our disposal. 3 Internal doors connected to the system, should be securely closed (but not necessarily locked) whenever the system is set. 4 Cables will be concealed from view where possible. Our prices do not allow for the removal and replacement of fixtures and fittings. 5 The specification remains the property of Dragon Security Systems and in the interests of security should not be photocopied or shown to a third party without prior permission. 6 The specification is to be read in conjunction with these notes and the "Terms and Conditions" contained herein. 7 N.S.I. codes of practice and other regulations may be altered from time to time. The specification is compiled in accordance with those practices ruling at the specification date stated. 8 Wire free devices within the security industry use frequency 2.4Ghz (CCTV) and Mhz or Mhz (intruder alarm). Customers intending to introduce Wi-Fi or wireless broadband must seek our advice prior to doing this to avoid the possibility of compromising the security system. 9 Customers intending to introduce ADSL Broadband (on a normal phone line) following the installation of a security system must seek our advice prior to doing this to avoid the possibility of compromising the security system. Alarm Receiving Centre This section advises you of the involvement by an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). There is no need to read this unless you either have or are considering adding signalling equipment to your security alarm system. It is to an ARC that the equipment we install will automatically pass alarm activation s. An ARC is a protected building manned 24/7 by personnel who are specifically trained to filter false alarms.

The Code of Practice which is in operation by our nominated ARC is set out as follows and the customer shall indemnify both the ARC and Dragon Security Systems against any loss which may occur as a result of the ARC s procedures in the filtering of alarm calls. Acceptance of these procedures by the customer deems this authority to be approved. Filtering Policy (when a Type A signalled alarm system activates) The following filtering techniques in operation by the ARC, are in accordance with the National Police Chiefs Policy plus regional variations currently in force, and BS Miss-Operation Signals All systems shall either: a) Send an unset / set (open / close) signal or b) Be capable of generating a secondary signal indicating the alarm system has been misoperated. Miss-Operation by Abort or Open Signals A miss-operation signal will result in the ARC not calling the Police and aborting all actions. A missoperation signal may be transmitted in a number of different ways, depending on the control equipment installed. A miss-operation signal may be sent by a deliberate action by the end user or by unsetting the system within 120 seconds of activation. Type Of Alarm Personal Attack Alarm Fire Alarm (where fitted) Intruder Alarm unconfirmed signal Intruder Alarm confirmed signal, when closed within the re-arm period or audio or visually verified Intruder Alarm confirmed signal when open Intruder Alarm unconfirmed, followed by an open or abort signal within the filtering period Intruder Alarm sequentially confirmed within the filtering period of the initial unconfirmed alarm signal followed by an Open or aborted signal. Action Taken by ARC Police Notified Fire Brigade & Keyholders Notified, subject to the fire authority accepting fire signals without any prior contact with the premises. Premises or Keyholders Notified Police & Keyholders Notified Premises & Keyholders Notified (Police if required) No Action No Action Notes: All new Intruder Alarm Systems installed within an NPCC Authority Area that require a Police response and systems that have had Police response withdrawn but now require Police response reinstated must incorporate confirmation technology.

All Intruder Alarm signals received from sequentially confirmed Intruder Alarm Systems within premises residing in an NPCC Police Authority Area are held for 120 seconds in order that they may be aborted or confirmed by a second detector. Dragon Security Systems may entry into an agreement with the end user to modify the ARC s response to the first alarm signal: i.e. Take no action on first signal. Types of Confirmed Technology Alarm Signal Reporting Sequential Alarms (Second Zone Reporting) Sequential alarm confirmation is probably the most common method in use. The Alarm Receiving Centre must receive confirmation signals that two independent detection devices have activated within the protected premises. Signals are not actioned for a minimum of 120 seconds in order that the alarm may be aborted. An abort is achieved by completing the correct un-setting procedure of the alarm system, or alternatively by telephoning the ARC with the correct personal identification details of the key holder on site or site password. (See also What to do in an alarm condition ). Should a confirmed Intruder Alarm signal be received, the alarm condition is presented to the ARC operator to be actioned as a confirmed alarm and the police informed following the 120 second period. Should the end user send a miss-operation signal (control panel automatically generated), or a signal to indicate the system is unset prior to any action by the ARC, the alarm will normally be automatically aborted. It is important that alarm systems incorporating confirmation technology are set to re-arm within a time window (30 60 minutes) following initial activation to prevent the transmission of a confirmed alarm signal and to prevent the ARC from carrying out the incorrect action on any subsequent activation. Audio / Visual Alarms Should a sound be heard or person be seen, then the ARC will treat this as a confirmed alarm. Notes: The ARC will not use discretion If a sound is heard or person seen, the Police will be contacted. To minimise the occurrence of an incorrect response by the ARC, it must be ensured that Alarm Listening Devices or Imagining Devices have at least the same area of coverage as the intruder detection that caused the alarm incident. On contact with the Audio or Visual System, the system acknowledges the identity of the premises to the ARC. Under normal circumstances, the ARC will undertake the following time guidelines for listening into the premises. Pre-alarm Post alarm Real time 10 seconds 20 seconds 30 seconds

No Response / Line Fault Verification No response alarm signals will not attract a Police response unless they precede or follow an intruder alarm signal. Your attention is drawn to the fact that any single path signalling system is incapable of sending an alarm signal following a line fault while that line fault exists. Systems that monitor no response / line fail must also transmit open / close signals to the ARC to ensure the correct response to communication failure is carried out in accordance with clause of BS5979. The ARC s action plans for DualCom, RedCARE, RedCARE GSM, RedCARE ISDN and RedCARE Serial systems for a no response / line fault are: Type Of Alarm (numbers in brackets refer to notes below) Single no response alarm (1) Action Taken by ARC Premises or Keyholders RedCARE no response signal, BT line fail, Paknet Comm. s fail or GSM Comm. s fail. Any combination of no response, line fail Alarm or Intruder Alarm when the system is known to be open or alarm combinations are not received within the same period. (2, 3 & 4) Outstanding no response alarm in an un-restored state followed by an intruder alarm received within the same set period and the system recorded as closed. (1, 2, 3 & 4) Outstanding intruder alarm in an un-restored state followed by no response alarm received within the same ser period and the system is recorded as closed. (3 & 4) Premises or Keyholders Police and Keyholders (as confirmed) Police and Keyholders (as confirmed) Outstanding no response alarm in an un-restored state followed by no response alarm via an alternative signalling path received within the same set period and the system is recorded as closed. (4) Police and Keyholders (as confirmed) Notes: 1 RedCARE may generate network control messages to inform the ARC that a fault exists on a line or a single STU. In such a case, the ARC may elect to inform Keyholders and/or the premises. 2 The system must be dual signalling for an intruder alarm to be received following a no response alarm. 3 For the action to be carried out correctly in the event of a no response alarm coupled with an Intruder Alarm, the alarm system must send restores on all intruder alarm channels. 4 The system must be dual signalling for two no response alarms to be received via alternative signalling paths.

National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) Intruder alarm policies are determined on a nationwide basis by NPCC. Regional police forces may, within set parameters, fine tune these policies to their own specific areas. Below are references which we believe would be of benefit to you, to help you understand the various facets of the security industry, particularly the electronic security industry and the efforts that responsible company s make to ensure that Police requirements are understood and maintained. To enable a security system to be recognised within the NPCC requirements for security services, it must comply with the NPCC policy on response to security systems and a recognised standard or code of practice controlling manufacture, installation, maintenance and operation. Such standards must be in the public domain and not be product based. It should be noted that police response is ultimately determined by the nature of demand, priorities and resources which exist at the time a request for police response is received. Type A Type B Remote Signalling Systems Security Systems For security systems there are two levels of police intervention Level 1 Level 2 Type A Systems Immediate No police attendance, keyholder response only The police service has adopted a policy on the use of confirmed alarm technology as part of the effort to reduce false calls. Security systems will receive a Level 1 response until two false calls have been received in a rolling 12 month period. Following 2 false calls in 12 months, Level 2 will apply and police response will be withdrawn. This will remain valid until the system has been free of false calls for 3 months. To restore response, the occupier or the security company shall apply in writing to the Chief Officer of Police, supported by evidence from the installing company that the system has been free of false calls and that the original cause has been rectified. Dragon Security Systems Note: Personal Attack Buttons: A false call means attendance on site by a Police Officer. The risk of this occurring with confirmed technology is very much reduced. If 2 personal attack alarms are policed within a rolling 12 month period, the system will be subject to a level 2 response and the alarm receiving centre will intervene by telephoning the premises first. If this intervention phone call is unanswered or the incorrect password is given, the premises will then be policed. Type B Systems To obtain police attendance, Type B systems (audible only) will require some additional indication that an offence is in progress. This will usually require human intervention such as member of public, owner or agent visiting or viewing the

premises and the level of police response will depend on the quality of information received. Automatic dialling equipment must not be programmed to call police telephone numbers. Keyholders All premises with Type A systems shall have at least two keyholders, details of whom will be maintained by Dragon Security Systems Keyholders shall be trained to operate the security system, (Dragon Security Systems will undertake this training if requested) be telephone subscribers, have adequate means of transport to attend the premises at all hours, shall have access to all relevant parts of the premises and shall be able to attend within 20 minutes of being notified. Failure to comply may result in withdrawal of police response There is an obligation of the part of the installer, customer and the monitoring centre to employ all possible means to filter out false calls. British Telecom This section advises you of the involvement by British Telecom with some intruder alarm systems. There is no need to read this unless you either have or are considering adding signalling equipment to your intruder alarm system. Only British Telecom lines and equipment are recommended. If three or more devices are fitted, or if the line is used for data transmission e.g. Fax or Modem a British Telecom line dedicated to the signalling system. This also applies to PABX switchboards. The specification which we provide you, assumes that the telephone equipment is British Telecom. We cannot accept any liability whatsoever for incompatible telephone equipment and it is incumbent upon you the customer to advise us of the make and model of the installed equipment, including that supplied by British Telecom, so that compatibility checks can be made. It is also important that, prior to installation, you must ask British Telecom to verify that your telephone line is not a party or shared line (described by BT as a DACS line) as this may be incompatible with the equipment specified by any intruder alarm installer. It is important to ensure that the BT line terminates within 2 metres of the controls, to avoid extra charges. The quotation supplied does not allow for any delays whatsoever relating to investigating and resolving telephone faults. Time taken to resolve any telephone issues will be subject to additional charges. It is important at the survey stage to establish if you intend installing the signalling system on a digital telephone line (ISDN). If three or more devices are fitted, or if the line is used for data transmission e.g. Fax or Modem a British Telecom line only must be utilised. This also applies to PABX switchboards. In the case of RedCARE, the Dragon Security Systems quotation will provide for the installation of a RedCARE STU and a Block Terminal (92a) which is a small device which will be fitted by British Telecom in close proximity to the control panel. It is to this device that we make the final signalling connection. RedCARE charges are to be paid in advance of the order being placed on your behalf. British Telecom will not make a refund for cancellation once an order is placed, therefore we are left with no choice but to seek payment in advance for this service.

The specification and quotation which we produce, assumes that the customers telephone equipment is British Telecom RedCARE compatible. It is also incumbent upon the customer to seek the advice of British Telecom with respect to the compatibility of both existing and future equipment which may share the RedCARE telephone line. The familiar BABT Green Sticker is NOT a guarantee of compatibility with RedCARE and its presence on any equipment should NOT excuse the customer from seeking British Telecom guidance. For your own protection, we recommend that you obtain written assurances from British Telecom. ADSL Service Provider This section advises you of the involvement by an ASDL provider with some Alarm systems. There is no need to read this unless you either have or are considering adding remote monitoring equipment to your system. Your preferred ADSL Broadband supplier must provide a line with a fixed public IP address. The maximum upload speed should be obtained to reduce latency of the system. If the line is connected to an ADSL Router not supplied by us or via a local area network. Your IT supplier must liaise with Dragon Security to ensure port forwarding and firewall protection is allowed for the system. All issues relating to firewalls and virus scanners are the responsibility of the client. It is important to ensure that the ADSL or LAN terminates within 2 metres of the system, to avoid extra charges. The quotation supplied does not allow for any delays whatsoever relating to investigating and resolving network or ADSL faults. Time taken to resolve any such issues will be subject to additional charges. Allocation of ip addresses on a Network Some equipment, including IP or Emizon 21 signalling systems, when initially connected to a network will request an ip address from the client s DHCP service. It is important therefore, for the client to ensure that fixed or static address for any equipment on site are excluded from assignment by the DHCP service to avoid conflicts occurring. The assigned DHCP address may be changed by the engineer, in conjunction with the IT Administrator during the final commissioning process. Health & Safety In the interests of health & safety, work from ladders will be carried out to a maximum height of 5 metres. Where equipment is to be installed above this height, it is incumbent upon the customer to provide scaffolding and or specialised access equipment at his own expense. We can arrange for this if required.

Glossary N.S.I. Fused Spur: Confirmed Technology: (verification) Sequential Confirmation: Migratory Confirmation: Single Area Confirmation: Remote Access Technology: The National Security Inspectorate, approves companies in the electronic security industry across the British Isles. N.S.I. regulates firms which install and maintain Intruder Alarms, CCTV and Access Control Systems. It also approves Alarm Receiving Centres which process alarm signals An electrical point connecting mains power to the control panel which cannot be switched off or have a plug removed. The means by which an operator at an Alarm Receiving Centre can filter out false alarms. This is achieved by either; (a) listening Audible Verification or (b) viewing Visual Verification or (c) Sequential Verification this method traces each movement from detector to detector. The method by which the Alarm Receiving Centre will call the Police following confirmation of the alarm. (Also known as second alarm activation. Movement thorough the building from say a corridor to an office creates a first activation from the office detector. Movement in one area, e.g. an office generates a first and second activation from two detection devices within the office, e.g. two movement detectors or one movement detector and a door contact. Is the term used to describe the means by which Dragon Security Systems engineering staff communicates direct with a control panel via a British Telecom telephone line. This method of connection provides the means to make adjustments to control panel settings, interrogate the control panel log and remotely service the system usually without the need for the customer to be present at the installation. This is particularly convenient for domestic customers with a busy life style who find it difficult to wait in for an engineer to call. For Police signalled systems which receive preventive maintenance checks every 6 months, regulations state that alternate checks can be carried out this way. i.e. once a year. Proximity Tag or Token: Anti Masking Detection: A secure electronic key, negating the manual entry of a security code. Passive infra red detector s and dual technology detector s which have this attribute, prevent the detector itself from being masked which would reduce its normal field of view. Examples of this would be... Placing objects immediately in front of the detector. Deliberate taping or spraying of the detector face. In the event of this happening the detector will not allow the control panel to be set. An alert, indicating the problem will be identified at the control panel.

Prevention of False Alarms This section attempts to highlight the most common causes of false alarms from intruder alarms in buildings. It is extremely important that occupiers and their registered keyholders be made aware of these basic facts. Setting the System 1 Please ensure that ALL occupants have left the building prior to setting the system, particularly in commercial premises. 2 If you have forgotten something and need to re-enter the building switch the alarm system off first, it does not know that you are a bona-fide user. Un-setting the System 1 Be prepared to switch off the system FIRST DO NOT delay in doing this. 2 DO NOT stray from the prescribed entry route until the system is switched off. 3 Please ensure that others do not enter the premises until the system has been switched off. It is commonplace in commercial premises for employees to follow closely behind a keyholder and go to their place of work before the alarm is switched off. ASK THEM TO WAIT. Points To Remember 1 Ensure that movement detectors are free from cobwebs, as spiders can enter some detectors and create an alarm condition. 2 These days some movement detectors are described as Pet Friendly but common sense must prevail. It is better to tell yourself that pets and movement detectors are incompatible and when the system is set, try and ensure that pets are shut away in a room which does not have movement detection devices fitted it is better to be safe than sorry. 3 Always ensure that reflective objects (i.e. glass top coffee tables) are not placed in such a position whereupon the sun can be reflected into the lens of a detector, alternatively close the curtains on a bright and sunny day, prior to setting the alarm. 4 NEVER remove a detector from the wall to decorate, or any other device, as they are protected by a TAMPER circuit. The alarm WILL sound. 5 ALWAYS consult with Dragon Security Systems if doors / windows are to be replaced, well in advance of the work to be carried out 6 The alarm system must only be operated by persons who have been correctly trained. If you are unsure of the correct operational procedures contact us immediately. 7 Before leaving the premises check that all doors and windows are physically secured. A walk around the protected area is the only effective way of doing this properly, and to prevent unnecessary false alarms. 8 Ensure that detection devices are not obstructed. In particular be careful that infra red beams and space detectors are not obstructed by stock or other items. Be very careful to ensure that Christmas decorations do not block a movement detector and or move with air currents. This rule also applies to shops with swinging signs or offices with notice boards. 9 If space detectors are used do not introduce sources of heat, movement or sound into the area protected by these detectors without informing Dragon Security Systems.

10 Always follow the entry / exit procedure agreed with Dragon Security Systems. Don't allow entry through any door other than the one designated. Make switching off the alarm system your first task on entry (See also Setting & Un-setting the system). 11 Check your keys. Ensure that all keys necessary to enter the premises are readily available and that code numbers where applicable are known before entry. 12 Inform Dragon Security Systems of any alterations to your premises which may affect your alarm system. Do not permit people other than Dragon Security Systems to make changes to the alarm system. A tamper condition will occur and the alarm will sound. 13 Treat your alarm system with care. Wiring and detection devices can be accidentally damaged or moved. Should this occur inform Dragon Security Systems immediately. 14 After a false alarm check the system carefully and, where possible, note the cause of activation. Inform Dragon Security Systems engineer of the suspected cause of the activation immediately on his arrival. 15 Make sure regular maintenance checks are carried out by Dragon Security Systems. Remember that excessive false alarms will give rise to Police response being withdrawn. 16 If you intend making any structural changes to the building, or if you intend to have the premises rewired, you must consult Dragon Security Systems FIRST. 17 If you intend re-instating a previously dis-used open fireplace, consult Dragon Security Systems first in case a movement detector may be affected. Adherence to the points in this list will go a long way towards ensuring that your premises always receive police attendance at the right time. What To Do In An Alarm Condition! Audible Systems 1 Check very carefully, If there are NO signs of a forced entry into the building, check for any other explainable reason for the activation. e.g. Doors & windows improperly secured. Pets running loose or placed in a cage in the field of view of a movement detector. Person strayed from the entry route prior to switching off the alarm. 2 If there is no explainable cause call Dragon Security Systems to establish the cause as soon as possible. Whilst you may not want the expense of a call-out, the alternatives may be more costly. e.g. Noise from a sounder which exceeds 20 minutes duration IS AN OFFENCE and can carry a very hefty fine. Repeated activations can and often do, offend neighbours and the very time you need their assistance in reporting an alarm they will not take any notice. It is the recommendation of Dragon Security Systems that ALL alarm systems be signalled to an Alarm Receiving Centre.

Signalled systems 1 Further to and in addition to the item above referring to Audible Systems If you know that you have activated your alarm system by accident, you MUST call the Alarm Abort number within 120 seconds and identify yourself to the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) operator by quoting your PASSWORD which has previously been registered with the ARC via ourselves. In so doing, you will avoid wasting Police time and the activation will not count against you in the totting up process relating to withdrawal of Police Response. (See the section entitled - Association Of Chief Police Officers). Please Note: A personal attack signal CANNOT BE ABORTED. 2 Please also make sure that you read and fully understand the ARC s documented procedures for the handling and filtering of alarm systems contained in this manual. Emergency Response Dragon Security Systems will respond to the customers emergency request as follows. 1 Out of normal working hours telephone our mainline number & select option 1 - calls are automatically diverted to the ARC. The ARC will only pass alarm activation s to a duty engineer, from keyholders / customers with current maintenance contracts. The ARC will NOT deal with any other form of enquiry. 2 Where the problem cannot be resolved over the phone an engineer will attend the premises within 4 hours or at some other pre-arranged time agreed with the customer. If the customer / keyholder is not prepared to wait, the company accepts no liability whatsoever for any loss howsoever caused as a result of that delay. 3 Commercial premises: The engineer will attend within 4 hours or by the end of the customers normal working day.
