Installation Without Strobe: 1. Attach mounting feet to the Call Box using supplied hardware. 2. Mount Call Box to the wall or pole using anchor screws. 3. Drill holes in appropriate locations in the Call Box for the electrical power and phone cable. 4. Attach conduit to the Call Box if appropriate for the install. 5. Run the 110/120vac electrical wires to the Call Box and attach to the power supply wiring using appropriate wire nuts. See drawing on page Run the phone line to the Call Box. Connect a modular jack to phone cable and plug the RATH supplied modular cable into the jack or connect a modular RJ11 plug on to the phone cable and attach directly to the RJ11 jack on the SmartPhone. 7. Turn on the electrical power. 8. Phone will now need to be programmed. If programming on-site, do not attach the Call Box lid and proceed to On-Site Programming on page If programming remotely, attach the box lid and proceed to Remote Programming on page 6. With Strobe: 1. Attach mounting feet to the Call Box using supplied hardware. 2. Mount Call Box to the wall or pole using anchor screws. 3. Mount strobe to the wall or pole using anchor screws. 4. Drill holes in appropriate locations in the Call Box for the electrical power and phone cable. 5. Attach conduit to the Call Box if appropriate for the install. 6. Run the 110/120vac electrical wires to the Call Box. 7. Run two wires from the Call Box to the strobe. 8. Attach the wires to the strobe using two wire nuts. 9. Connect the neutral of the incoming power to the white wire of the strobe and the transformer. 10. Connect the hot incoming wire to the transformer and the NO terminal on the Relay Board. See drawing on page Connect the black wire of the strobe to the COM terminal on the Relay Board. Page 3

4 12. Run the phone line to the Call Box. Connect a modular jack to phone cable and plug the Rath supplied modular cable into the jack or connect a modular RJ11 plug on to the phone cable and attach directly to the RJ11 jack on the SmartPhone. 13. Turn on the electrical power. 14. Phone will now need to be programmed. If programming on-site, do not attach the Call Box lid and proceed to the On-Site Programming section on page If programming remotely, attach the box lid and proceed to Remote Programming on page 5. 6 Call Box Programming You can program the phone on-site or remotely. Remove the cover of the enclosure by loosening the 4 corner screws and remove the front cover. On-Site Programming: Step 1: To Begin Program Mode A. Press Enter Step 2: To Program Emergency Button A. Press 1, Enter, (phone number), Stop Note: Press 2-3 in step 2A for emergency numbers 2-3 as needed Step 3: To Program Infomation Button A. Press 4, Enter, (phone number), Stop Step 4: To Program Location Message A. To turn on message Press 1, 3, Enter, 2 B. Press 6, Record (speak message) Stop (to replay message Press 6, Play) C. For no message Press 1, 3, Enter, 0 Note: Location Message will only play when the EMERGENCY button is pushed Step 5: To Exit Program Mode A. Press Stop for 3 seconds Remote Programming: Step 1: To Begin Program Mode A. Call into phone by dialing the number of the Call Box B. After 1st simulated ring, Press #, # (Wait for 4 tones) C. Key in security code (Default is 1111) (Wait for confirmation tones) Step 2: To Program Emergency Button A. Press 1, *, (Phone number), *, # (Wait for confirmation tones) Note: Emergency numbers (2-3) repeat step 2A pressing (2-3) as needed Step 3: To Program Infomation Button A. Press 4, *, (Phone number), *, # (Wait for confirmation tones) Step 4: To Program Location Message A. To turn on message press 1, 3, *, 2 (Wait for confirmation tones) B. Press 6, *, (Speak message) #, *, # (Wait for confirmation tones) a. To replay message Press 6, # (Wait for confirmation tones) C. For NO message Press 1, 3, *, 0 (Wait for confirmation tones) Note: Location Message will only play when the EMERGENCY button is pushed Step 5: To Exit Program Mode A. Press *, #, 0 (You will hear a beep, beep) *, # (You will hear a buzz) Keypad Page 6

7 Call Box Testing Push the EMERGENCY button on the front of the Call Box and repeat test for the INFORMATION button: Did you hear a dial tone? Did the strobe (optional) start flashing immediately after the button was pushed? Did the red LED become a solid light when you pushed the button? Did the red LED flash and approximately seconds later the called party started talking to you? (Delay is due to the phone telling the other party your location via the Location Message ) Note: The Location Message will only play when the EMERGENCY button is pushed. Can you hear the other party clearly? (If not, see Adjust Speaker below) Can the other party hear you clearly? (If not, see Adjust Microphone below) When the party you called hangs up, does the strobe (optional) stop? If you have answered YES to all questions, you have successfully installed and tested the Call Box. If you answer NO to any question, proceed to the Troubleshooting Section. Yes No *RATH recommends the Call Box be tested on a regular basis to ensure proper operation. Adjusting the Volume If the volume is too low or high, adjust it by referring to the diagram and instructions below. Note: Refer to the instructions under Programming the Phone to access the circuit board. RATH SmartPhone Volume Adjust VR1 Mic Sensitivity VR2 Adjusting the Microphone: If the person you are calling reports your voice is not loud enough, increase the Microphone Sensitivity by adjusting VR2 a 1/4 turn clockwise (requires a small Phillips screwdriver). Adjusting the Speaker: If the voice of the person you call is not loud enough in the phone speaker, increase the volume by adjusting VR1 a 1/4 turn clockwise. Reinstall the cover on the enclosure and secure the rear access panel. Page 7

8 Troubleshooting Problem No dial tone when the button is pushed: Possible Cause & Solutions Check to make sure the phone line is connected. Verify dial tone and voltage on phone line going into unit. Audio is low from the speaker: Speaker control needs to be adjusted. See Speaker Adjustment. Make sure the speaker holes are not blocked. Audio is distorted from the speaker: Speaker control needs to be adjusted. See Speaker Adjustment. Make sure there are no items touching the speaker inside of the Call Box. Called party says audio is low: Microphone control needs to be adjusted. See Microphone Adjustment. Make sure the microphone hole is not blocked. When the called party hangs up, strobe (optional) continues to flash for one minute: Slow disconnecting signal from the phone company. This is considered normal operation. When called party hangs up, strobe (optional) continues to flash: Phone company or phone system is not providing a disconnect signal. Contact the appropriate party to make sure the disconnect signal is provided. Call Box appears non-functional. strobe (optional) does not flash and no audio is heard from speaker when button is pushed: Check to make sure the phone line is connected. Check electrical connections. Push button may be non-functional. Page 8
