1 2015 ANNUAL MISHE CONFERENCE THEME: KNOWLEDGE FOR A CHANING FUTURE Speaker Line-up and Bios KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Kathy Tolomeo, CHEM Joint Commission Exploring Life Safety with Joint Commission Kathy Tolomeo will be presenting in a mini bootcamp format an update for the Healthcare Environment including Statement of Conditions, Equivalencies and new sections to the survey report. Tolomeo will also provide changes to the Elements of Performance, a 2012 Life Safety Code Update on Categorical Waivers, and 2014/2015 Challenging Standards. Tim Adams, FASHE, CHFM, CHC American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) Optimizing the Physical Health Care Environment through Advocacy and Education ASHE members are dedicated to optimizing the health care physical environment. As such ASHE is involved at a strategic and a tactical level with active advocacy for codes, standards and guidelines that promote the optimum physical health care environment. As our health care system changes and adapts to regulatory, fiscal and population changes, those responsible for designing, building and managing the health care physical environment are tasked with meeting current needs as well as preparing for a future where the needs for the physical environment are not crystal clear. This session examines late breaking and current advocacy issues and efforts, with a focus on active involvement of health facility professionals in shaping that physical environment. BREAKOUT SESSION I Matt Pefley - Spirotherm, Inc. Achieving Energy Savings & Reducing Maintenance Costs in Hot and Chilled Water Systems via Improved Thermal Distribution Efficiencies Considerable improvements have been made in generating the hot and chilled water for building comfort systems but little attention has been given to distributing that water efficiently. Many standard designs and specifications continue to include older technologies or leave out altogether. Air in the system fluid can lead to corrosion & system particulate which collects in the piping or equipment restricting flow and causing other problems. The air inhibits heat transfer, collects in the piping or

2 equipment, and restricts flow, actually taking away from the return on investment made in high efficiency boilers and chillers. Value propositions, best practices, and sustainable system design would indicate that increased attention be given to such a system component, however it is sometimes found on the VE list instead of the forefront of innovative system design practices. By eliminating the insulating effects of the air and harmful effects of dirt, hydronic systems can then achieve peak thermal distribution efficiencies. This presentation discusses these issues in detail including why they occur and how to solve them. Timothy Leach - Steril-Aire, Inc. Can filtration alone prevent the spread of HAI causing microorganisms by your HVAC systems? Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) constitute a major health threat impacting millions of people globally, and increase patient morbidity and mortality with an economic impact of up to $45 billion in the US alone. Gram negative environmental bacteria are of particular concern and are becoming increasingly multi-drug resistant. These universal health concerns, surrounding HAIs, have driven organizations such as ASHRAE to investigate environmental reservoirs of pathogenic microorganisms; such as hospital HVAC systems (ASHRAE HVAC Design Manual for Hospitals and Clinics). The objective of this presentation is to demonstrate the role of HVAC systems as potential reservoir, amplifier and disseminator of these opportunistic bacteria even with the most effective filtration in place. The presentation contains data from prospective interventional pre and post multi-center trials. The presentation, further, demonstrates how properly designed and installed Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) systems in the HVAC equipment can eliminate the problem. The presentation concludes by demonstrating improved hospital hygiene and reduction of HAIs. Brad Keyes, CHSP - Keyes Life Safety Compliance Changes with the New 2012 Life Safety Code Understand and comply with the changes that will occur when CMS finally adopts the 2012 edition of the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code. This 60 minute session with speaker Brad Keyes, CHSP, covers the latest changes that healthcare organizations will have to comply with, including new requirements for testing and inspecting fire doors, and tips on how to incorporate these changes into your maintenance program Neil Hikade Spectrum Health Measuring the impact of Continuous Commissioning A case study How does a facility approach energy reduction? Turning off the lights when not required is an obvious and direct approach but how do you find the more hidden opportunities? Taking a more aggressive approach has risk since it requires dedicating time and money that is always hard to find. Automated controls can mask energy waste and still satisfy comfort. Continuous commissioning provides the key to discovering the hidden energy reduction opportunities through improved operational intelligence and proactive discovery of control and equipment shortfalls. Measuring the impact of Continuous Commissioning A case study describes an approach with results that Spectrum Health modeled in Grand Rapids and is applying in their regional hospitals to achieve energy reduction goals. Continuous

3 commissioning has improved operational performance, solved chronic operational problems and guides the capital improvement program investment direction. BREAKOUT SESSION II Dave Onofrio and Jim Waddell - Legrand Dave Onofrio and Jim Waddell will highlight building energy code trends in the US. The discussion will focus on the industry s movement to intelligent buildings and the benefits of integrating lighting and receptacle control. These systems and controls are fast becoming a staple in High Performing buildings. John Schmidt - Trane Automating your Automation System Your Building Automation System has a wealth of information contained in how it controls your facilities. The difficulty has been finding the right data and the time and resources to analyze it. Trane Intelligent Services is a suite of software and services that can digitally unleash the power of your building automation system by capturing that relevant data and running analytics to uncover opportunities for improvement. This presentation will show you how to find hidden energy savings, proactively manage comfort, and quickly pinpoint areas that require servicing. Bob Kokovich - Leviton Embracing Changes in the Health Care Market. NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code, 2012 Edition. This presentation is an overview of NFPA 99 Purpose & Scope, NFPA 99 Key Performance Indicators, Summary of Key Changes for 2012 Edition and Major Changes Important to Electrical Systems. The presentation is designed to help you learn why NFPA 99 was overhauled and the benefits of those changes to patients, healthcare providers, installers of wiring devices, and specifiers of wiring devices. Shawn Shadley and Jon Balsamo - PM Environmental Mergers and Acquisitions Mergers and acquisitions continue to be a hot topic in the healthcare industry as M&A activity rises and the government flexes its regulatory muscle. Amid all the developments, it's essential that organizations are aware of environmental regulations and perform the proper due diligence when acquiring new property, buildings and facilities. Overlooking these important issues can exponentially increase the M&A cost. In this session, Shawn Shadley and Jon Balsamo will discuss: - Key considerations and pitfalls when preforming environmental due diligence on new or existing properties. - Hidden energy drains and often overlooked tax incentives. - Underground Storage Tanks management (including the new Michigan UST Cleanup fund)
