2 Who is the DHF? DHF represents manufacturers & installers of: Pedestrian doors Industrial doors & shutters Garage doors Powered gates, and Locks & architectural hardware

3 What is the DHF? A trade body, founded in 1897, representing over 200 members drawn from all parts of the door & hardware industry Sits on European & British standards committees Publishes its own technical standards & guidance documents, available from:

4 From 1 July next year: You MUST draw up a declaration of performance and apply the CE marking IF the product you place on the market is covered by a hen This includes any product covered by an existing hen, such as EN :2003 hens published from now on, such as EN 16034, will be subject to a period of coexistence before they come into effect

5 What is the CE mark? A declaration by a manufacturer that a product meets the essential health & safety requirements of one or more single market directives. (There are about 24 of these ranging from toys to electrical appliances)

6 What is the CE mark? (continued) The purpose is to allow free circulation of goods within the EEA No EEA government can exclude a CE marked product (although it can regulate its use) It is not a quality mark However, for safety-critical aspects, such as fire, it DOES guarantee performance

7 Harmonised standards (hens) Written by CEN or CENELEC in response to a Commission mandate Mandate specifies essential characteristics for the product Manufacturer must declare against essential characteristics Declaring npd may be possible EN can contain additional requirements, unrelated to CE marking

8 Essential characteristics What performance must the product possess in order to enable the building to achieve the basic requirements for construction works? Detailed in Annex Z of hen CE marking is against the Annex Z, NOT the whole standard

10 Safety and accessibility in use...they do not present unacceptable risks of accidents or damage in service or in operation such as slipping, falling, collision, burns, electrocution, injury from explosion and burglaries. In particular, construction works must be designed and built taking into consideration accessibility and use for disabled persons.
