6 The modernisation project 1. Modernisation of data communication network to detector sites (used protocol X.25/ISDN to be phased out by provider in 2010) 2. End-of-life cycle replacement of the ambient dosimetry detectors by up-to-date technology 3. Adding sites to enhance monitoring near borders and to enhance monitoring around nuclear sites 4. Installing spectrometers near nuclear sites enhancing detection sensitivity and some qualitative analysis of accidental releases 5. Installing submerged gamma detectors for the Scheldt and in the release channels of the NPP s. Modernising the current river detectors. Acquiring displaceable detectors for water purification plants. 6. Data processing layer redesign to adapt to new detectors & upgrade of presentation layer software.
