3 Changes Event Director Release Notes Version 1.23 November 2008 These release notes document changes for Event Director version This document also provides software update instructions and a compatibility matrix for Event Director version Instructions for use of this product are detailed in the Event Director Configuration Guide, part number CF-EDE. Changes Event Director version 1.23 includes the following changes: Alarm Status Displays Accurately (Issue 66041) Event Director Polls Alarm Table Elements Properly (Issue 66125) Alarm Translations Dialog Box Displays Properly (Issue 66564) Event Director Polls Extends Properly (Issue 66633) Cleared Remote and Extend PDM Alarms Appear Immediately (Issue 66710) Alarm Status Displays Accurately Description: In some situations, when an alarm on a monitored device transitioned from normal status to an alert status, the corresponding alarm status in the Event Director client did not change accordingly. This failure was accompanied by a No pollable service error message. Resolution: Alarm status is displayed accurately in the Event Director client. Event Director Polls Alarm Table Elements Properly Description: A situation could arise in which Director identified a network element as an alarm table element (that is, a Remote or Extend PDM), but did not monitor ICMP or SNMP on the element. This condition resulted in Event Director continuously polling that network element, causing performance slowdowns on the Director server. Resolution: Event Director no longer continuously polls network elements that exist in the alarm table, but whose ICMP and SNMP services are not polled. 1

4 Software Update Instructions Alarm Translations Dialog Box Displays Properly Description: In some situations, the Alarm Translations dialog box appears empty. Resolution: The Alarm Translations dialog box displays properly. Event Director Polls Extends Properly Description: If the Polled Device Monitoring (PDM) script was installed but not configured on an Extend device, Event Director continuously polled that Extend device. This caused performance slowdowns on the Director server. Resolution: Event Director no longer continuously polls Extend devices on which the PDM script is installed, but not configured. Cleared Remote and Extend PDM Alarms Appear Immediately Description: If a user cleared some alarm translations for a Remote or Extend PDM device, then closed and reopened the Alarm Translations dialog box, the cleared alarm translations did not display properly until the next device poll. Resolution: Cleared Remote and Extend PDM alarm translations now display immediately in the Alarm Translations dialog box. Software Update Instructions Updating the EventDirector software to version 1.23 is accomplished by using the directorrpminstaller utility. See the Director Installation Guide for instructions. Manual Database Tuning If you are upgrading from an Event Director version prior to 1.22, Kentrox recommends you perform the following manual database tuning tasks immediately before or after installing Event Director version 1.23: 1. Log into the OpenNMS database via the PostgreSQL command prompt: # psql opennms opennms 2. Delete all rtc events: delete from events where eventuei like %rtc% ; 3. Delete all SNMP linkup and linkdown traps from the events table: delete from events where eventuei like uei.opennms.org/generic/traps/snmp_link_% ; 4. Vacuum and reindex the events table, the service table, and the node table. 5 Software Compatibility Software Compatibility If you have not already done so, you must update the Director client and server to version 2.1x or later when upgrading Event Director to version Event Director version 1.23 is incompatible with earlier versions of Director. 3
