5 Installation Mounting Supplies Needed Location Considerations To properly mount the GCS-000-, you need the following: 7 mm (1/4 in.) Outside Diameter (O.D.) polytubing pencil to mark the mounting holes 8 mm (5/16 in.) drill bit drill anchors and screws (provided) screwdriver, straight-slot Consider the following when deciding on a location for the GCS-000-: Stability: Mount the GCS-000- to a flat, stable, non-vibrating mounting surface (heavy-duty drywall or concrete) where the unit will not be subjected to moisture accumulation or drastic temperature variation. Anchors and screws are provided. Ambient Operating Conditions: Temperature: 0 to 40 C (3 to 104 F); humidity: 10 to 95% RH, non-condensing. Position: Mount the GCS-000- vertically. Air Sampling Locations: Remote or local sensing is acceptable; the outdoor and return air sampling devices can be mounted up to 30.5 m (100 ft) away from the unit. The supply air sampling device can be mounted up to 9.1 m (30 ft) away from the unit. Air Stratification: The air sampling devices must collect air that is sufficiently mixed in order to deliver accurate CO readings. Outdoor Air Flow: The outdoor air flow sampling device can be mounted in the outdoor air intake ductwork. However, if it is likely that exhaust air could affect the sensor in the outdoor air intake ductwork, then mount the sampling device outdoors (properly enclosed and free from exposure to the elements). 6 Mounting Procedure To mount the GCS-000-: 1. Carefully read the Location Considerations section of this bulletin.. Open the cover of the GCS-000- to access the inside of the unit. 3. Remove all packing material inside the unit, including the tie-wrap around the pump. 4. Use a pencil to mark the location for the upper mounting hole. 5. Use an 8 mm (5/16 in.) drill bit to make a pilot hole in either heavy-duty drywall or concrete. If the wall is concrete, make the hole at least 38 mm (1-1/ in.) deep. 6. Insert the anchor (provided) into the hole as shown in Figure. Turn the screw enough to hold it in place, but leave at least 7 mm (1/4 in.) of the screw sticking out of the wall. 7. Hang the GCS-000- on the screw, and level the unit. Mark the bottom mounting holes. 8. Drill pilot holes for the bottom mounting holes as in Step 4 above. 9. Insert anchors and install screws (see Figure ) into the bottom mounting holes. Tighten all three screws. 10. Remove appropriate knockouts for the power source, air sampling tubes, and low-voltage output from the CO sensor. 153 (6) 19 (0.75) Insert the anchor, then the screw. 7 Air Sampling Device Installation Use the following instructions to install the air sampling devices. If needed, see Figure 3 for an air sampling device arrangement example. 1. Select a mounting location on the first duct (supply, return, or outdoor) for one of the air sampling devices. Be sure to read the Location Considerations section of this bulletin. Note: To ensure an acceptable response time, mount the GCS-000- so that it is less than 9.1 m (30 ft) from the air sampling device leading to supply air.. Install the air sampling device on the duct with the open end facing into the airstream (Figure 3). Seal the space between the tube and the duct to prevent air loss from the duct. Note: Outdoor Air Flow: The outdoor air flow sampling device can be mounted in the outdoor air intake ductwork. However, if it is likely that exhaust air could affect the sensor in the outdoor air intake ductwork, then mount the sampling device outdoors. 3. Use a length of 7 mm (1/4 in.) outside diameter flexible tubing to connect the air sampling tube to the appropriate port located inside the GCS Ports are labeled outdoor, supply, and return accordingly. 4. Install the other two air sampling devices in the other two locations specified by the engineering drawings. 5. Proceed to the Wiring section. 8 Wiring Wire Gauge Designations! WARNING: Shock Hazard. Avoid serious personal injury by disconnecting the power supply before making wiring connections. Electrical connections are made to the screw terminals using 10 to AWG (5 mm -0.3 mm ) wire. The GCS-000- has two terminal blocks (see Figure 4 for terminal block locations): Upper terminal block (supply) accepts 10 V line voltage. See Table 1 for terminal designations. Lower terminal block (output) contains the terminals for the CO sensor and internal wiring connections for the solenoid valves. See Table for terminal designations. Note: Wiring connections must be made in accordance with the National Electrical Code and local regulations for low-voltage wiring. 9 ! CAUTION: Equipment Damage Hazard. The CO sensor power input (s 6 and 7) must be electrically isolated. Do not connect 6 or 7 (lower terminal block) to any other GCS-000- terminal. A connection between either 6 or 7 and the signal return ( of the lower terminal block) will permanently damage the unit. Also, do not use 6 or 7 to supply power to any other device, as this may overload GCS-000- s power transformer. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) device may not cause harmful interference, and () device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Maintenance Servicing the CO Sensor Ordering Information When properly installed, the GCS-000- is accurate to ±100 ppm per year. Verify the calibration of the CO sensor after the sensor has been in operation for one full year and annually thereafter. Whenever you suspect an accuracy problem, recalibrate the CO sensor using the single-point calibration procedure described in the CO sensor literature (packaged with the GCS-000-). When the A filter becomes dirty, order a replacement filter. See Table 3 below. The CO sensor is not field repairable. If the CO sensor fails verification, and subsequent field adjustments of the calibration settings do not correct the problem, contact your local Johnson Controls branch office and order a replacement (there is no product number for a replacement sensor listed in Table 3 because the number changes frequently). For further sensor replacement information, see the CO sensor literature (packaged with the GCS-000-). To order a GCS-000- Multipoint Carbon Dioxide Gas Concentration Sampler, contact your local Johnson Controls branch and specify the complete product code number. An accessory single-point calibration kit for the CO sensor also is available for order. See the CO sensor literature (packaged with the GCS-000-) for more information.
