2. DESCRIPTION Microprocessor, semiconductor DE-TOX detector is designed for on-going control of carbon monoxide concentration in underground and overground car parks, manholes, passages, tunnels and other enclosed facilities with the risk of increased concentration of toxic gas. As an individual, autonomous detector, it allows for early activation of ventilation in order to air the rooms, reduce the increased concentration and activate the visual and sound signalling. The method of analysing the gases is in line with the applicable standards, it ensures a reasonable analysis of chemical content of the air without the need of activating the installation too frequently, thus reducing the cost of operation. The detector allows connecting a remote measurement cell analysing the chemical content of the air for increased concentrations of propane butane (LPG). Technical data of the remote measurement cell is included in the directory card 2222 "GDSL.2 remote LPG cell. The non-standard detector allows for free definition of the alarm thresholds according to the buyer's specification, with resolution of 1%. Additionally, each of the alarm thresholds allows for a freely defined time span for calculation of the weighted average for each threshold and importance. On request, we make detectors with in-built buzzers. 3. OPERATING METHOD The measurement method is based on gas diffusion in the environment. Constant mixing of gases and penetrating the measuring element of the detector allows measurement with the sensor. The gas present inside the casing also uses effusion through some of the measurement openings. Correct operation does not require additional coupling components or central units, only connection to controlling contactors - see: Connecting to plant. The electronic measurement system analyses the chemical content of the surrounding environment in a continuous manner. The toxic carbon monoxide content is measured as a weighted average from 1 minute for the first and second alarm threshold in 2- threshold detectors GDC.2/R2 (or weighted average from 15 minutes for the first and second alarm threshold and weighted average from 1 minute for the third alarm threshold in 3-threshold detectors). The measurement system is also equipped with compensation for temperature, allowing for the use in a broad temperature range - e.g. open underground car parks, tunnels, or unheated car parks. 4. INSTALLATION Positioning Detectors are positioned over the protected area so that the measurement ranges of the individual sensors overlap. The radius of an individual detector should not exceed 9-10 m. When positioning, avoid places directly exposed to gusts of wind, e.g. in direct current of the fan or near the ventilation grille. Detectors should not be installed in empty niches, corners or dead-end corridors and in places with obstructed air circulation. In such case, the areas should be protected from such spaces to allow early detection of excessive 8201EN July

concentrations and therefore allow quick removal of toxic compounds so as to prevent gathering of gases in non-ventilated places. Calculations may use 250 m 2 as the maximum area protected with one detector, however in the case of small areas, the estimated calculations and the actual positioning may differ. Installation The detector is installed using four typical screws / expansion bolts (the bolts are not provided together with the detector). The operating position of the detectors is the vertical plane. The height of installing the detectors should be assumed where people are present. As a standard, the detectors should be installed m from the floor level. Each time when installing, take account of the working conditions, the method of using the rooms and the type of pollution emitter. NOTE: installation of the detector near or on the ceiling may cause incorrect measurements. Available installation accessories: see the card with accessories for DE-TOX system The drawing showing dimensions is shown on the packaging as a standard. Spacing of installation holes: in a square, 115 mm horizontally, 115 mm vertically 5. CONNECTING TO PLANT Cabling may be provided as surface or flush mounting. Cables should be led from the top, via a gland, and another gland should lead a cable out to the next detector. The last detector, from which no cable is lead out, uses only one gland another gland should be terminated with a cap, ensuring suitable level of IP protection. Standard signalling cabling may be provided using YStY control cables or YDY wire. For 12V version, remember calculating the voltage drop on power cables taking account of the minimum value of voltage for the device, and for 230V version, take account of the local regulations on electricity. For long alarm loops, there may be voltage induced on the alarm wires - to prevent this, apply the quenching circuit. The protective cable is not required. The device is made to the second class of protection. After providing connections, make electric measurements in line with the applicable regulations. For 12 V AC version, the power voltage must meet the requirements for secure low voltage (SELV) according to standard EN Use double insulation protective transformers in line with the standard EN First activation Configuration of cells Having completed assembly and electrical works and completing the measurements, the activation may take place. Turning on the voltage makes the detector switch to sensor warm-up mode. This process takes ca. 3 minutes and is signalled by flashing green LED (POWER). During that time, carbon monoxide level is not measured. Completing the process of warming up the sensor and switching to normal operation mode is indicated by the green LED being turned on (POWER). Configuring the centres with measurement cells (teaching the centres) is done automatically. A newly connected cell is automatically entered to the memory and loss of communication with it causes an error to be displayed. New detectors are manufactured with CO cell automatically entered to the memory (or CO + LPG if such are ordered) Deleting the cells that were previously entered to the memory should be done in the situation the detector's configuration changes, when disconnecting/connecting the cell 8201EN July

or its type is changed. A change in the configuration with no teaching process in place is signalled by a continuously lit LED showing communication errors on the detector's base board by the breakdown relay being turned off - see Control of operation and signalling. The LED is lit 10 seconds after the change is made. Deleting the cells entered to the memory is done with the detector's power being turned on and the "TEST" key pressed for 10 seconds - correctly performed deletion of the cells entered to the memory causes the red LED showing communication status on the detector's base board be turned off. After completion of the procedure of deleting the cells entered to the memory, control if all cells operate correctly and do not show communication error by flashing the green and orange LED (for power and outage, respectively) alternately. Testing relays The correctness of the connection of the detector's relay outputs may be tested using a microswitch located under the casing on the base board (TEST button). The test button serves two functions: launching the test procedure deleting the cells entered to the memory when changing the configuration of connection. To start the testing function, hold the button for 5 seconds. The information on the test being started will be displayed by lighting the orange 'OUTAGE' LED. The test will proceed further in line with the table below. Holding the button for longer than 10 seconds will only activate the function for deleting the cells from the memory. Conducting the testing function # Time [s] Status of the relays when testing OUTAGE ALARM 1 ALARM 2 ALARM Description of a given step Testing the OUTAGE line Testing the ALARM 1 line Testing the ALARM 2 line Testing the ALARM 3 line NOTE: The above functionality is related to the software version for the base: v5.03, for the cell: 5.02 and later. In older versions, the course of the TEST function may be slightly different and the TEACHING option is not available. 6. OPERATION General rules GDC.2 carbon monoxide detector is a device which has no adjustment controls or elements for regulation that would require handling. The semiconductor sensor inside it is a precise element, therefore to safeguard correct operation, protect the detector against: 8201EN July

- direct sunlight, wind, rain; - strong shocks, vibrations; - strong electromagnetic field; - flooding, splashing with water, paint or other chemical substance; - direct strong stream of air or aerosol; - prolonged operation in an environment with high content of flammable gases or chemical substances (incl. solvents, paints, etc.); During refurbishment works in the room where the detector is located, turn it off and secure (with foil) to protect from splashing or dust. The detector may be turned on again after the works have been completed, the paint dried and the room aired. Correct operation of the detector requires periodic controls of correct operation and recalibration. Periodic controls Twice a year: - checking the measurement openings for permeability, and if needed - with the power turned off - cleaning them from dust using a brush, a dry cloth or delicate suction nozzle; - checking the general condition of the device: no mechanical damages, permanent stains; - checking correct power (green LED on - POWER); Additionally, each time after conducting maintenance works, check if the device is ready for use (green LED on - POWER). In order to ensure correct operation of the device, a periodic recalibration is required: at least once every 3 years and each time the detector operates in the environment with very high concentration of toxic or inflammable gas. NOTE: Recalibration must be performed by an authorised service. A fee is charged for the service. Diagnosing, repairing and re-activating the device may be done only by an authorised maintenance service of the manufacturer. 7. CONTROLLING OPERATION AND SIGNALLING Microprocessor carbon monoxide detector is a maintenance-free device, controlling the carbon monoxide content in the surrounding environment on a continuous basis. The correct status - surveillance - is signalled by the green LED (POWER). NOTE: If there is voltage on the terminals and no signalling on the detector, check the internal fuse. I. LEDs - base - see figure below: Power (blue) Lit continuously - the detector is powered Turned off - no power in the detector Alarm 1 (orange) Lit continuously - the first alarm threshold exceeded Alarm 2 (red) Lit continuously - the second alarm threshold exceeded Alarm 3 (red) Lit continuously - the third alarm threshold exceeded 8201EN July

Outage (green) Lit continuously - correct operation of the detector Turned off - detector error Cell status (green) Lit continuously - cells warmed up Flashing - one or more cells are being warmed up Cell communication (red) Turned off - correct communication with the cells stored in the memory Lit continuously - error in communication with the cell(s) stored in the memory, displayed 10 seconds after the loss of communication with the cell. [Awaria outage, Zasilanie - power, Alarm alarm, Komunikacja głowic - cell communication, Status głowic - cell status] II. I. LEDs - cell - see figure below: Outage (orange) Turned off - correct operation of the detector Flashing - request to recalibrate, displayed one month prior to expiry of the recalibration term Lit continuously - cell error or exceeded deadline for recalibration Flashing alternately with the power LED - no communication with the cell Power (green) Lit continuously - normal operation Flashing - the sensor is warmed up for 3 minutes after the power is turned on Flashing alternately with the power LED - no communication with the base 8201EN July

Alarm (red) Turned off - the alarm thresholds were not exceeded Slow flashing (one flash per 2 seconds) - the first alarm threshold exceeded Fast flashing (two flashes per second) - the second alarm threshold exceeded (this status does not exist in detectors with two alarm thresholds defined) Lit continuously - the third alarm threshold exceeded in 3-threshold detectors or second threshold in 2-threshold detectors. [Awaria outage, Zasilanie - power, Alarm alarm] In order to ensure correct operation of the device, a periodic recalibration of the cell is required: once every 3 years as a minimum. The detector displays the need of servicing it one month before the required date of recalibration. Measurements are conducted continuously during that time. If no recalibration is conducted during that time, after the deadline is exceeded the orange LED (OUTAGE) is lit continuously, signalling it is possible the measurements are incorrect. 8201EN July
