This plant was partly funded by the Federal Government via the Clean Technology Program as part of the zero carbon initiative. The AD plant will reduce Richgro s carbon emissions and electricity consumption (via the power grid) by 100%. This plant is an integral part of the company s strategy of diversification into the waste recovery field, specialising in food and organic wastes. These wastes are currently dumped into landfill with obvious environmental effects. In addition to the production of carbon free electricity, Richgro will have access to an endless supply of materials for consistent and reliable supply of products. The AD plant composts food and organic waste in an anaerobic (airless) environment. This method not only removes organic waste from landfill but the by-product from this process is the production of biogas which will be used to power turbines.
