1 Flipper Fidelity FF SPK CX CV Coax Speaker Installation Instructions ( ) Thank you for purchasing the Flipper Fidelity speaker kit for a Stern Pinball machine. Your kit includes the following: (1) 8 Coax Speaker (2) 4 Speakers w/wood Spacers (1) Spike 2 Wiring Harness (8) 5/8 Female to Male Hex Stand offs (2) Insulated crimp on spade connectors Please make sure all parts are present before starting your installation. Tools required for kit installation: 1/4 nut driver 5/16 nut driver Wire terminal crimping tool w/ wire cutter Note: Use of a drill driver or powered screwdriver is not recommended. Avoid over tightening. The fasteners used by Stern, and those included in this kit, need only be tightened enough to hold the component in place and prevent vibration when in use. Please allow approximately 30 minutes to install. This kit requires no permanent modification to the machine. You may want to take photos of your particular machine in the event you wish to accurately restore it to its original configuration. Step One Machine Preparation. Make sure you have adequate space available to access the front and both sides of the machine. Make sure the machine is turned off and unplugged from its power source. To install this kit you will need to remove the translite to access the back box speakers, speaker connections, and to mount the volume control. Woofer installation requires access to the inside of the base cabinet. If you are not familiar with the procedures to access these areas, i.e. removal of the translite, removal of the playfield glass, and raising the playfield to the service position; please refer to the Stern owners manual Step Two Remove the back box speakers. First, remove the translite. For safety, I would find a towel to drape across the machine for the speaker/display panel to rest on. This will protect both your speaker/display panel and the side rails from getting scratched. Lay the panel on its front, spanning across the side rails. Remove all 4 nuts on each speaker and place them in a safe place. You will be reusing these to secure the new speakers. The flat wire going to the fastener holding the existing back box speakers is a ground strap which must be replaced when the new speakers are installed.

2 Locate the speaker/display connector circled in the photo to the left. This needs to be disconnected and removed with the speakers. We will install a new harness after the new speakers are mounted. Speakers Removed along with all speaker wiring. They come out of the game in one piece. This includes two wires to the display. Take out the entire package and set aside. Speaker panel is now prepared for installation if hex stand offs. FOR KISS LE AND PREMIUM OWNERS: On these machines, Stern added a crossover for their back box speakers. This is located behind the left speaker. It is a silly idea and is not needed for this replacement system. Remove the assembly pictures by removing the four ½ hex screws, and disconnecting the wiring harness. It will come out in one piece. Put your four screws back in their original holes, but do not tighten them all the way.

3 Step Four Wire Harness Installation The wiring harness in this system replaces both the back box speaker and display wiring from the circled connector forward. Connect to the 6 pin connector first, then going from left to right, connect the short speaker lead, the display cable, then the right speaker lead.

4 Step Five Removal of the base cabinet speaker. Locate the speaker in the base of the cabinet by raising the playfield to the service position. Cut the wires going to the existing woofer. You will want to cut them as close to the speaker terminals as possible. Using a 5/16 nut driver, remove all four nuts holding the speaker in place and remove the speaker. Place the speaker aside as you no longer will be using this. Keep the nuts as you need these in the next step.

5 Step Six Installing the woofer. Your new 8 speaker will fit right on to the four studs to which the factory speaker was mounted. Proceed carefully. It is possible to damage the speaker cone or surround if not properly aligned when lowering the speaker over these studs. Use the four factory nuts to secure the new woofer. Crimp the female spade terminals onto the existing speaker wire. The wire with the white stripe connects to the negative or smaller terminal on the speaker. The wire with the black strip connects to the positive or larger terminal on the speaker. Step Seven Adjust the volume. The speakers you have just installed are far more substantial than the factory speakers. You will need to raise the volume of the machine. I have found great results when the machine volume is raised above the setting of will produce a lot of sound. Machine specific settings. WWE Pro and LE.
