INSTALLATION FOR STANDARD BLINDS INCLUDING 2-on-1 HEADRAIL Bracket Installation for Inside and Outside Mount Whether the blind is being installed as an inside mount or an outside mount, it is critical that the brackets are installed level. Inside Mount Installation With inside mounts it is important to use a level to check that the mounting surface is level. Add spacers or shims if necessary. For inside mount, hold the blind up to the window and make a pencil mark below the headrail on each side of the shade for an inside mount. Install the box brackets at each end. For a ceiling mount, hold the blind up to the ceiling and make a pencil mark 1/8 beyond the end of the headrail. Install the box brackets at each end. If centre support brackets are required evenly space between the two end brackets. If attaching a valance, see Valance Installation before locking the blind into the brackets. If a wand option was ordered please refer to the Wand Installation section before locking the blind into the brackets. Please Note: It is very important to keep the headrail level even if the window is not. Depending what surface the brackets are being installed into, depends if anchors are required. Mark with pencil to show where to install the brackets Use a level to connect to the pencil marks to ensure blind will hang level Mark Window Casing Outside Mount Installation To install brackets, a flat vertical surface of at least 1 3 /4" high is required for 2" blinds, 2 1 /4" blinds and 2 1 /2" blinds. With outside mount it is important to use a level to check that the mounting surface is level. Add spacers or shims if necessary. Hold the blind to the window and then mark 1 /4" to the outside of the headrail end marks. Install the box brackets at each end. If centre support brackets are required evenly space between the two end brackets. Check to make sure the cords and ladder are free then insert the headrail into the brackets and snap the safety locking covers closed. If a wand option was ordered please refer to Wand Installation section before locking the blind. If a valance option was ordered, see Valance Installation before locking the blind into the brackets. Valance Installation If a valance return was ordered for an outside mount, then various valance clips may snap onto the top of the valance and onto the headrail. To attach the valance returns using the valance end return clip slide the valance into the valance return clip, then slide the end return into the other side. If using the valance return connector insert the L return connector into the valance then 5
slide the valance return into the L return connector. Butt the return and the valance together. Tilt the plastic valance clips on headrail and attach valance l'attache to dans the la clips. rainure de la cantonnière If no valance return was ordered for an inside mount, slide the valance clip on the headrail and attached to the valance. Please Note: The number of valance clips depends on the width of your blind. One clip should be placed approximately every 6" from each end of the headrail and the remainder evenly spaced. For install mount, attach the valance clips to the valance before inserting the headrail into the mounting brackets. Installing the Wand Gently slide the plastic sleeve towards to the headrail. Slide the wand into hook on the headrail of the blind. Then gently slide down the plastic sleeve protruding from the headrail to hold the wand in place. Installation of Blind Once the valance and the wand is connected to the blind, place the headrail into the end brackets. If you have centre supports place the bottom of the headrail into the bottom of the bracket. Then tilt the blind so that the headrail snaps into the top of the bracket, then close the box bracket. Hold Down Brackets (Optional on specific blinds) The hold down bracket pin fits into hole on the end cap. One multi purpose bracket is provided. You must bend the bracket at the scored line to use as a sill/door mount. Do NOT bend the bracket to use the jamb bracket. Jamb Sill/Door INSTALLATION FOR MONO CONTROL Inside & Outside Mount Installation With inside and outside mounts it is important to use a level to check that the mounting surface 6
is level. If the space is not level, please add spacers or shims if necessary. For an inside or outside or ceiling mount, hold the blind up to the window and make a pencil mark for the bracket location on the mounting surface. No more than 1" from the end of the headrail. Snap 2 brackets to the headrail making sure the bracket is mounted 4" or less from each end of the headrail. Space the remainder of the brackets evenly across the headrail. Please Note: It is very important to keep the headrail level even if the window is not. Depending what surface the brackets are being installed into, depends if anchors are required. Space the remaining brackets evenly here 4" 4" Attach the Universal Cord Tensioner Before operating the blind, you must attach the UCT (Universal Cord Tensioner) to the wall or the window frame. Slide the cord tensioner to the bottom of the cord loop. Insert a small screwdriver, punch, or awl through the screw hole at the bottom of the cord tensioner. Move the screw hole down to the indicator line to release the safety mechanism. Slide the cord tensioner down to the bottom of the cord loop. Install the window covering and use the instruction provided to secure the cord tensioner to the window casement. For complete UCT installation see the instructions provided WARNING: It is imperative that the cord tensioner be properly secured to the wall or window frame to reduce children s access to the cord loop. Young children can strangle in cord loops. They can also wrap cords around their necks and strangle. Universal Cord Tensioner Indicator Line CAUTION: The shading will not operate properly unless the cord tensioner is secured. A cord tensioner installation kit has been included with your shading. Follow the instructions in the kit to correctly secure the cord tensioner. Whether the blind is being installed as an inside mount or an outside mount, it is critical that all brackets are installed level. 7
OPERATION Operation of the Blinds with Cord Tilt or Wand Tilt To raise or lower the blind gently pull the cord towards the middle of the blind. When the blind is open (i.e. at the bottom of the window sill), the slats then can be tilted. To tilt the slats with a cord tilt, hold both cords and gently pull down on one side only. In the event one of the cords reaches the headrail, gently pull it back down until they are equal length with each other. The tilter is a slip clutch and you may hear the click as the cord is pulled back. To tilt the slats with a wand tilt, gently turn the wand. In the event that the wand will turn anymore, do not over tighten. It is best to turn the tilter mechanism (wand or cord) until the slats are level since this cuts down on lifting resistance and makes it easier to raise or lower them. Please Note: To protect furnishings from ultraviolet rays and to ensure best operation and appearance, slats should be turned up when closed. Operation of Mono Control Our Mono-Control blinds offer the latest engineering triumph in our commitment to state of the art design and ease of operation. Mono-control is a continuous loop, which lifts and tilts using a clutch mechanism - two functions in one. To open the blinds, pull the other side of the cords. Pull smoothly and your blinds will tilt open to your desired view. To raise the blinds, continue to pull the cord. The slats will begin to raise as the clutch begins winding upwards. If you wish to lock the blinds in place raised all the way up, simply let go and the clutch will prevent the blind from lowering. To lower the blinds, control the cord in the same process. Do not pull the cord straight or pull across the blind. To ensure easy raising and lowering of your blind, it must be installed LEVEL to decrease lifting resistance. TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM SOLUTION Blind will not tilt Check to make sure that the cords are not tangled and free from any obstructions Check that the ladders have not become disengaged from the tape drums Check to be sure that the tilt rod is fully inserted into the tilt gear 8
PROBLEM SOLUTION Blind does not raise and lower evenly Blind doesn t fit the brackets Lift cords are stuck or jammed Decorative tapes are wrinkled after installation Check inside the headrail to be sure that there are no obstructions keeping the mechanisms from turning Check that the lift cords are not pinched or tangled Make sure that the mounting brackets are level and the mounting surface is flat Check the cords and the moveable pin in the cordlock mechanism inside the headrail of the blind. Make sure the cords can move freely. If the cords are jammed, use a screwdriver or needlenose pliers to move the pin to free the cords Use a steamer to steam out the wrinkles Wave the steamer in front of the tapes for a few seconds Do not touch the slats with the steamer or pull down on the bottomrail while steaming as this will stretch the tapes Faux Wood Blinds CARE AND CLEANING All cleaning procedures should use the technique of tilting the slats first up, then down (but not entirely closed), to reach the entire top and bottom surfaces. If dusting, use a soft, clean dust cloth to wipe the blinds. If vacuuming, use the brush attachment to wipe the blinds. Wood Blinds Like any piece of fine furniture, wood blinds must be dusted regularly. Use an ordinary clean cloth, feather duster or slightly damp cloth for this purpose. Most vacuum cleaners come with a round, soft brush attachment, which can be periodically run over the slats. It is best to clean the slats in the closed position. Do not wash your blinds! The wood may absorb water and as a result, may warp. REMOVE THE BLIND Gently put the slot/flat head screwdriver at the bottom of the bracket and push upwards. Once all the brackets are open remove the headrail. For centre support brackets slide blind backwards and forwards slowly. 9
CHILD SAFETY WARNING For more safety information call or go to Young children can STRANGLE in cord and chain loops. They can also wrap cords or chains around their necks and STRANGLE. Always keep cords and chains out of the reach of children. Move cribs, playpens and other furniture away from cords and chains. Children can climb furniture to get to cords and chains. Do not tie cords or chains together. Make sure cords or chains do not twist together and create a loop. Use safety devices provided or such devices as clamps (fig. I), cleats (fig.2), tensioners (fig.3) or any other ones to keep cords and chains out of reach of children. See pictures below of some of these devices: Cord Loop Shades Attach the cord tensioner on the cord loop to the wall or window casement. For installation instruction, see the Universal Cord Tensioner (UCT) kit provided. Proper installation of the tensioner can prevent children from pulling cord loops around their necks. For the shade to operate properly, the cord tensioner must be correctly mounted and secured. 10
