Reducing Light Gaps in Corners, Bays & Butting Blinds The following codes should be used to indicate that slats should be extended 5mm past the headrail on the side indicated. This will reduce light gaps between blinds. OIE = extend slats 5mm on the idle end of the blind (i.e. opposite end to controls) OCE = extend slats 5mm on the control end of the blind OBE = extend slats 5mm on both ends The projection of the headrail including brackets is 60mm. When measuring for corners, bay windows and multiple blinds, large gaps are experienced in the above areas. 1. Corners Increasing the blades on the butting blind by 5mm will help to reduce the gap. Timber Venetians Light Gaps 2. Bays Increasing both side blinds by 5mm and centre blinds by 10mm reduces the gap. 3. Multiple Blinds - 2 Blinds Reduces gap by 5mm between both blinds. 4. Multiple Blinds - 3 Blinds Reduces gaps between the three blinds by 5mm each. Instructions for Measuring & Ordering 1. Measure window. 2. Take off normal deductions: this is your ordered size. 3. Indicate which end slats are to be extended using the code OIC, OCE or OBE as appropriate. 4. In Special Instructions section, indicate which blinds are side by side so that the factory will ensure slats are aligned and blinds are matching in colour.
Multiple Blinds on One Headrail Timber Venetians Multiple Blinds PLEASE NOTE: If you require a separate tilter for each blind, it is cheaper, easier to manufacture and easier to fit separate blinds. There is no advantage in ordering multiple blinds on a common headrail. On order form you must specify: Overall headrail width (= window width -10mm) Blind 1 width Blind 2 widths (= overall width - blind 1-10mm) Single tilter or separate tilters Tilt side (must be LHS on blind 1 or RHS on blind 2 for single tilter) Cord lock side on each blind (each blind must have a separate cord lock) \ Pelmet code Size Limitations Individual blinds must be within usual limits Overall headrail width must not exceed 5m Size Limitations Individual blinds must be within usual limits Overall headrail width must not exceed 5m

Timber Venetians Specialty Shapes Specialty Shapes New Zealand Window Shades products offer consumers nine fixed slat specialty shapes and five movable slat specialty shapes from which to choose. This allows your customers to cover practically any window with a Timber Venetian Blind. Cord Length On blinds that raise and lower, the lift cord length will be the same as the tilt length, unless otherwise specified. Valance For movable specialty shapes, a matching valance is standard. NOTE: No valances are offered for fixed slat specialty shapes. Decorative Fabric Tapes Decorative fabric tapes are not available with any specialty shapes. Colour Matching Accurate colour matching between specialties and rectangular blinds can only be assured if they are ordered at the same time. Special Notes Fixed Slat Specialty Shape Blinds Tapered slat ends offer better light control and a more finished appearance. Movable Slat Specialty Shape Blinds Slats are cut straight to allow for tilting in both directions. This may create larger light gaps on some specialty shapes. Features & Options Fixed Slat Available in 46mm and 50mm slat sizes. Standard slat angle is up (45º); down angle (45º) may be specified if desired. Movable Slat Available in 46mm and 50mm slat size. All movable slat specialty shapes tilt in both directions. Cord tilt standard; motorisation not available. Some shapes raise and lower; others are tilt only. See individual shape specifications for more information. Height to which blind can be raised may be restricted by mounting style and/or angle of headrail. See individual shape specifications for more information.

Timber Venetians Specialty Shapes Fixed Specialty Shapes 50mm Only
Fixed Specialty Shapes 50mm Only Templates Make the Difference Templates are required with all specialty shaped orders. Easy-to-use guidelines for preparing templates appear on this page. NOTE: ONE TEMPLATE REQUIRED FOR EACH WINDOW. Angular and Triangular Windows Timber Venetians Specialty Shapes Either the top or bottom of the shade is sloped or angled. 1. Measure all four sides to ensure accurate fabrication. 2. Measure the inside of the window opening for reveal fit. 3. For face fit, add the desired amount of overlap, for reveal fit deduct 6mm clearance on each side. 4. Record all measurements on the template to create the shade. 5. Use the tallest height measurement when pricing the shade. With quarter circles, height will equal width. In perfect arches, height will equal one-half the width With imperfect arches, or eyebrows, exact height/width relationships do not occurs so extra care must be taken to ensure a good fit (Fig. 2) Key (Fig. 1) VERTICAL MEASUREMENTS: LH for the left height; RH for the right height HORIZONTAL MEASUREMENTS: W for the width; S for slope SLOPE ANGLE: angle between slope and horizontal line Five Steps to an Accurate Template 1. Tape cardboard (thin sheet or corrugated) or heavy wrapping paper over the window opening, allowing plenty of overlap. Use paper that has never been folded; a template can have no folds or creases. 2. Draw an exact outline of the window opening by carefully tracing over the inside edge of the window frame. 3. Remove the paper from the window opening. If the shade is an outside mount, add the desired amount of overlap to the window outline and draw a second outline around it to match the shape of the finished shade. 4. Mark the shade dimensions on the template. Check that the template dimensions match your measurements of the actual window opening. It is easiest to verify by cutting out the template and repositioning in the window opening. 5. Identify the template and its orientation. Write the customer s name on the template, and mark the ROOM SIDE and TOP. Send the template to the factory: If possible, roll the template and use a packaging tube to protect it against any damage. Use an authorization for return (AFR) document for dispatch, the AFR number has to be written on the order, so in that way the number is entered into the computer system.

Timber Venetians Reducing Light Reducing Light Gaps in Corners, Bays & Butting Blinds The following codes should be used to indicate that slats should be extended 5mm past the headrail, on the side indicated. This will reduce light gaps between blinds. There is a small surcharge for this option (see price grids). Instructions for measuring & ordering 1. Measure window 2. Take off normal deductions: this is your ordered size 3. Indicate which end slats are to be extended using the code OIC, OCE or OBE as appropriate 4. 18 Installation Instructions Timber Venetians Installation Materials & Tools Each Venetian Blind ordered should include: 1 left and 1 right hand hinged cover mounting bracket Support bracket(s) if needed 2 screws for each bracket (20mm x 6# Panhead) 1 pair hold down brackets and pins (if ordered) Tools Required Steel measuring tape Carpenter s level Power or battery drill and bits Flat blade and Phillips head screwdrivers Mounting the Brackets The installation brackets may be Reveal (inside the window frame) or Face (outside the window frame) or ceiling (top) mounted. In all cases, level mounting is critical to the operation of the blind (use carpenter s level). To open the end mount bracket, press up on the bottom side of the bracket to release the locking safety cover. IMPORTANT: Please read these instructions thoroughly before installing Reveal Fit (Inside Mount) Attach the two installation brackets inside the window frame, flush against each side and the top of the window frame. Align the front edges of the installation brackets. Pack down if necessary to ensure the brackets allow level mounting of the headrail. Two screws (20mm x 6# Panhead) are used to attach each bracket. For the most secure installation, fasten one screw to the top and one screw to the side of the frame as indicated.
Face Fit (Outside Mount) Timber Venetians Installation First, measure the blind and mark on the face or architrave where to attach the two installation brackets. NOTE: 5mm past each end of headrail. Attach the installation brackets to the wall or architrave using 2 screws (20mm x 6# Panhead), (25mm x 6# Panhead for render fix). Position the screws diagonally as shown above, however not too close to the edge of render to avoid break away. Ceiling Fit As with face fit, measure the blind and mark on the ceiling where to attach the two installation brackets, noting this should be 5mm past the end of the headrail. With the front edges of the brackets aligned, attach the brackets to the top of the reveal or ceiling with the screws supplied (20mm x 6# Panhead), (25mm x 6# Panhead for render fix). Centre Support Brackets Blinds over 1200mm wide and blinds 1000mm-1200mm wide and with a drop greater than 2000mm must have 1 support bracket, blinds over 1801mm wide must have 2 support brackets and blinds greater than 2200mm must have 3 support brackets. Space the support brackets as evenly as possible between the two end brackets. There should be no more than 1200mm between any two brackets. IMPORTANT: Avoid positioning support brackets in line with the tape drums. Blinds over 2900mm in height and multiple blinds on one headrail over 2400mm require an additional support bracket to be positioned 200mm from the cord lock end of the headrail. Use 2 screws to attach each support bracket, positioned diagonally wherever possible. Ensure brackets are aligned with end mount brackets. Extension Brackets (Optional) Extension brackets can be used with face fit (outside) to project the brackets away from the mounting surface to allow the blind to clear obstructions, such as window winders, locks etc. NOTE: A full width piece of timber may be the better option to pack out blind, as it is more stable than individual pieces of timber.
Installing the Blind Timber Venetians Installation IMPORTANT: In the case of Timber Venetian Blinds, and Woodmates Blinds - attach the pelmet (valance) clips before installing the headrail in reveal. Headrail Installation Simply slip the headrail into the end mount brackets and snap the locking covers shut. After fitting the headrail, attach the pelmet. NOTE: If a centre support bracket has been installed, a 12mm x 6# screw must be screwed through a hole in the bottom of the bracket into the headrail. Attaching the Pelmet (Valance) Timber Venetian Blinds If face fit, first attach returns by using the snap on brackets provided. Align the clips attached to the pelmet with the clips on the headrail and snap together.
Hold-Down Brackets (Optional) Timber Venetian Blinds Hold-down brackets are used to keep the bottom of the blind from swaying when mounted on doors or exposed to the wind. The hold-down brackets are inside or outside mounted at the bottom of the window opening. With the blind fully lowered, place the hold-down brackets onto the pins on the end of the bottom rail and mark mounting hole locations. Attach hold-down brackets with screws provided. With the bottom rail attached to the hold-down brackets, the slats may be opened or closed. Disconnect the rail from the brackets to raise and lower the blind. Protect Your Children Be aware that it is possible for children to strangle in window covering cords. To reduce the possibility of such an accident, all cords must be kept out of the reach of children, including infants. Cord cleats are an effective way to implement this essential precaution. Attach the cord cleats 153mm to 305mm apart at a height where they will be out of the reach of children. Take into account that a child may stand on a baby cot or other furniture in an attempt to reach the cords. Once the cleats are attached, simply wrap the excess cord around them after each use of the shade, as shown. It s fast, easy and safe. Operation Timber Venetians Installation CORD TILT: Pulling on one of the single cords will tilt the slats in one direction and pulling the other cord will tilt the slats in the opposite direction. RAISING AND LOWERING OF THE BLIND: Important: Standard Blinds: whenever raising or lowering the blind, the slats should be in the open position. The cord lock has a locking device that holds the cords in place when they hang vertically down. To raise or lower the blind, pull the double cords towards the middle of the blind, out at about 45o and slightly down. When the blind is at the desired height, return the cord to the side of the blind to reengage the cord lock.
Fixed Shapes Assembling the Blind Timber Venetians Installation Blinds with No Bottom Rail Hexagon, Octagon, Circle, and Oval Each upright is marked with a label: A, B, C, etc. Start on the left side with A and arrange the uprights as labelled. Stand the uprights on their back edge so that the slots are face up, with the slots angled the same on all uprights. Arrange the uprights so that they approximate the shape of the blind, with the slots aligned horizontally. The distance between uprights should be approximately equal. Slats are stacked in the order of assembly. Start at the bottom slot of the uprights and insert the first slat. Work your way up to the top until all slots are filled. Blinds with Bottom Rail Arch, Quarter Arch, Angle, and Triangle Stand the bottom rail on its back edge, with its front edge facing up and the countersunk holes toward you. Labels indicating the position of the uprights are located on the top of the bottom rail, near the front edge. Each upright is marked with a label that matches the label on the bottom rail. Arrange the uprights as labelled against the top side of the bottom rail. The slots in the uprights must face up, and the end of the upright with two holes goes against the bottom rail. Attach the uprights to the bottom rail using two countersunk screws (#6 x 30mm) per upright. The screws go through the countersunk holes in the bottom rail, and then into the uprights. Double check that the slots in all the uprights are facing up. Important: Do not over-tighten the screws Fix pre-drilled extra slat at rear of the shape using the countersunk holes as a guide to line up this slat. Secure with #6 x 20mm countersunk screws and fit matching screw head caps. This block the light gap between the bottom rail and the first angled slat. Insert the slots in the uprights. Start at the bottom and insert the longest slat. Work your way up to the top until all slots are filled.
Install the Snap Buttons Timber Venetians Installation Snap buttons are installed onto the top of the uprights. On blinds with no bottom rail, snap buttons are installed onto the bottom of the uprights, as well. On face fit (outside mount) blinds with a bottom rail, snap buttons are also installed onto the ends of the rail. The chart shows onto which uprights you will need to install snap buttons. The black boxes indicate snap button locations. Notice on the chart that a blind with two uprights will have snap buttons installed onto both. Blinds with three to six uprights will have snap buttons installed onto the middle upright(s), omitting only two; one on the far left and far right. Blinds with seven uprights will have snap buttons installed onto alternate uprights. Insert snap buttons into the pre-drilled holes on the uprights indicated on the chart and press them firmly in place. On blinds with no bottom rail, remember to install snap buttons on both the top and bottom of the uprights. On face fit (outside mounted) blinds with a bottom rail, also install snap buttons into the pre-drilled holes on the ends of the rail. Attach the Mounting Brackets First, mark the mounting bracket locations. With reveal fit (inside mounted) specialty shapes, hold the blind inside the opening, flush with the front of the opening, and mark on the casement the locations of the front edges of all snap buttons. With face fit (outside mounted) specialty shapes, centre the blind over the opening and mark the location of all snap buttons on the wall or moulding. Then attach the mounting brackets. With reveal fit (inside mount), position the circular opening at the front of the brackets approximately 6mm behind where you marked the front edge location of the snap buttons. Mark where to drill pilot holes for the #6 x 30mm mounting screws. Drill 3mm pilot holes and attach the brackets with the screws. Be sure all brackets are mounted the same depth inside the opening. Install the Blind Align the snap buttons on the uprights (and bottom rail, if applicable) with the front of the mounting brackets. Insert the snap buttons into the mounting bracket until they snap in place.
