1 NAVARRE TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE SUMMER SCHOOL 2017 BAZTÁN VALLEY July 17th 30th 2017 PROGRAM

2 This program will take place in Baztán, a mountain valley in northern Navarre. Local traditional urbanism, architecture and building details will be studied in order to create a preservation and new traditional building manual for the area. Hand drawing and measuring buildings will be the main activity to be developed each day. Experts in local vernacular architecture and building techniques will be lecturing on diverse related topics. There will be trips around this region and some workshops and building sites will be visited too. Local tradition will not only be studied, as the results of this two weeks research will be published, so it can also become an useful resource for future new buildings or restorations in the area. During the last days upgrade proposals for different public places of the town will be designed, using the manual previously developed as a guideline for them. Accommodation Introduction of all professors, participants and hosts, followed by brief presentations on INTBAU and Rafael Manzano Prize activities in Spain and on the Summer School program Dinner Tuesday Breakfast 9.00 Brief tour in Amaiur/Maya and Sketching Workshop Sketching workshop and studying the town Lecture 1: Creation of the Habitat in Baztán Valley, José María Imízcoz Lecture 2: The Caserío in Baztán. Architectural Aspects, Juan Mari Alemán and Gabriel Laborda Explanation on the work to be developed for the new traditional building and restoration pattern book. Participants will be assigned diverse topics for the following days Dinner Wednesday Visit diverse towns and places in the Baztán Valley, including Azpilicueta, Elizondo, Irurita, Arraioz and Donamaría. A restoration work site will also be visited in Irurita.
