5 Editorial The Journal of Architectural / Planning Research and Studies (JARS) is a peer-reviewed journal of multidisciplinary perspectives in the relevance to Urban Planning, Real Estate Development and Landscape Architecture. It is a timely contribution to research, analyses, and discussion about how built environment are designed, planed and managed to support for the sustainability phenomenon. Increased concern about quality of life and environmental problem worldwide, the overview of collective of articles in this journal is intended to contribute for several options of knowledge in linkage between the sustainability and development for readers in the context of the sustainable development challenge in several perspectives. Accordingly, this latest volume presents original researches by distinguished authors and is provided for scholars and professionals with research theme of sustainability concept and its application in a variety context including cultural landscape, urban safety and security, public transportation and risk management. This journal also includes a review article about the sustainability of place at reviewing and synthesizing selected international charters and standards relating to urban conservation in order to provide understanding about their significant contexts and development. This journal has a fascinating collection of book review articles with a series of issues which are offered concerning the divergent views on sustainability ideas and its extensions. Several books which are introduced in this journal are part of the current political, policy, planning and practices including: security and site design, integration of land use and transportation strategies, rationality and power, low-carbon and climate change, sustainable housing. These are examples of innovations to cope with the world in the transition to the more proactive way that recognizes in the challenge of urban dynamics and climate change. We hope that this volume may also contribute in the combination of the theoretical underpinning of the notion of sustainability concept and practically applicable for a variety of backgrounds and disciplines: architecture, urban design, urban planning, landscape architecture, environmental design, geography, urban transport planning and real estate developer. Finally, it is also expected that this volume will provoke new ideas that will facilitate theory-building as well as formulation of paradigms for good practices and sustainability concepts and its applications.
