3 INVENTORY FORM CONTINUATION SHEET Community Kingston Property Address P1 Wapping Road Massachusetts Historical Commission 220 Morrissey Blvd. Area(s) Boston, Massachusetts C 1206 FormNo. ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: The residence at 21 Wapping Road was built in 1798 in the Federal style. This 5x3 bay, wood frame, 2-story building its on a random granite block foundation. The building is clad with wood clapboards on the facade and wood shingles on the elevations. The hip roof is covered with asphalt shingles. A large brick chimney is in the center of the roof. The center entry is located in a 1x1 bay, 1-story, front gable, projecting vestibule. The 6-panel wood door is flanked by pilasters. The windows contain 12/12 wood sash with fiat surrounds and a molded drip cap. The comer boards are thin and flat. A bay window projects from the west elevation. A contemporary 2-stall garage is attached to the rear of the east elevation. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: FROM: Bartlett, Cornelius A. Houses. Johnson, Kingston, MA (#1) Built by William Bradford - son of Stetson This I have from Mr. Geo. Adams - Mr. U. Bartlett says Occupied and owned by Mr. George W. McLaughlin, wife and two children - Dau. and Son. FootNote: He (William Bradford, son of Stetson) removed to the State of Me. & died about 186-(last number worn). Notes,E.F.D. The deed of the land from his father (Stetson), 1805, March, mentions no buildings. If they belonged to William, they might not be mentioned, but usually were, in a deed. In 1807, Willam conveys to Jesse Reed and mentions buildings. This place became the propedy of George Washington McLaughlen in ; inherited by his son George, and is now (1942) owned and occupied by the latter's widow who was Leona Shaw of Kingston.
