3 PROVISIONAL PROGRAM (updated on April 9 th 2014) LAND USE MANAGEMENT IN THE HEART OF FOOD GOVERNANCE OF CITY REGIONS The sharing of natural resources, their allocation, the choice of their use, the management of conflicts that may arise from different land uses: these are some of the core issues of food governance in city-regions. Without land, we cannot think of alternatives of re-regionalisation of our food system. Without land, there is no room for debate around the potential for increasing local food self-sufficiency. Today, with a growing world population and an increasing concentration of humans in urban areas, local authorities are facing a daunting challenge - balancing urban development and preserving the land on which our food system relies. How can be these social changes translated to in terms of space and land use planning? What influence can they have on land use, on farmland preservation? What is the future of farmland as a territorial resource? How to reconcile and / or align land use policies with local food policies? Willing to bring answers, IUFN organises the 24 and 25 th of April 2014 LAND FOR FOOD, an international workshop on land use and sustainable food governance of city-regions. The event is fully oriented towards interaction as it proposes 12 co-design workshops, an open-forum and two plenary sessions. Its purpose is twofold. First, it aims to provide a new approach of the issue of land access and share within the urban populations' food security perspective. Second, it aims to provide a place of dialogue to encourage cross-disciplinary and systemic approaches of local public policies.
