1 Hanover County Board of Supervisors November 22, 2016 Hanover: People, Tradition & Spirit
2 Request for Creation of Bicycle & Pedestrian Citizen Engagement Committee At the request of the Chickahominy District supervisor, the Community Development Community considered the creation of a Bicycle and Pedestrian Citizen Engagement Committee during its October 26 meeting County residents have expressed an interest in enhancing pedestrian and bicycle connectivity throughout the suburban portions of Hanover County This is an opportunity for a citizen-led project to examine the benefits of a pedestrian and bicycle network, and bring recommendations to the Board to enhance existing infrastructure
3 Request for Creation of Bicycle & Pedestrian Citizen Engagement Committee Enhanced pedestrian and bicycle networks are becoming increasingly important as communities look at ways of improving the overall health of their residents by encouraging active lifestyles These networks also provide for opportunities to ease reliance on the automobile for short neighborhood trips, enhance the quality of the built and natural environment When implemented, well defined pedestrian and bicycle networks help create healthier and more vibrant communities than those lacking such infrastructure
