We supplied over 750,000 plants last season for amenity, hedging, forestry and woodland creation. We have had a decent growing season this year on the nursery with many of our transplant lines putting on good growth. Unfortunately this has also been good for the weeds with a lot of hand weeding needed in order to prevent a buildup of weed seed for next year. We continue to encourage local seed collections as the move towards home grown stock increases. We also continue in our efforts to register more stands of Oak with good form and vigour in order to allow seed collections from these trees. We are pleased to offer an extended range of selected seed source plants including Birch, Sycamore, Beech, Oak and Cherry. This seed is from registered stands of good form and vigour. When we do have to offer traded plants, we only buy from UK nurseries which we have worked with for well over 25 years in some cases. We celebrate our 60th year as a family run business and now offer an extended range of Container grown stock, Wild flower Seed, hedging troughs and parkland trees. Service and Advice We pride ourselves in offering a quality comprehensive service for your planting scheme. Please contact us for advice on species selection and protection, planting grants, GIS/Mapping and planting & after care services. Quality Stock Our stock is either supplied bare-rooted during October April or in pots all year round. All of our stock is grown from the best seed available and checked before despatch to ensure the best quality. Collection/Delivery All orders should be placed in advance so we can lift and pack your plants. We are a wholesale nursery but are happy to fulfil small orders. Plants may be collected in person from our nursery or we can arrange delivery with our own driver or a next day carrier service (minimum charge VAT). Before you plant: The plants that you select for your hedge or planting scheme will vary depending on your location and the ground conditions, we are happy to advise you on what species will be suitable. Before you plant, remove all the existing weeds from your proposed site. You can either do this by using an appropriate weed spray or removal of the weeds by hand or machine if you are organic. When to plant: Late October to early April are the best months for planting bare root stock, it is important that the ground is not waterlogged nor frosted. Our pot-grown plants are a good option for planting all year round. How to plant: Plants should be notch planted (to the depth of the root collar), and then firmed in with your heel to ensure the roots make good contact with the soil, this helps prevent the plants from rocking in the wind. Larger plants should be pit planted in a prepared hole. We recommend that you use Rootgrow mychorrhizal fungi. Planting distances: Hedges: To establish a good strong hedge you can use 5 plants per metre in a double staggered row. Some larger plants can be planted 3-4 per metre. Woodland: Metres apart Per Hectare Per Acre 1m x 1m 10, m x 2m (Conifers) m x 2.5m (New native woodland) 3m x 3m (Wood fuel coppice) Maintenance: A mulch mat or a layer of well-rotted mulch should be applied after planting to help reduce competition from weeds and retain the moisture in the soil. All plants should be protected from damage by livestock, deer, rabbits and voles. We can supply various sizes of tree/shrub shelters and/or deer or rabbit fencing We are a well-established family run nursery, and comply with EU FRM (Forest Reproductive Material) regulations and have regular plant health inspections this helps to ensure we are providing healthy, good quality stock. 3
