This corridor is expected to rapidly evolve in the near future. Owing to the introduction of high-order public transit by way of the LRT, we will soon see the transformation of this once retail dominated area into a complete mixed-use community. Although still currently subject to ongoing study, this neighborhood is already slated for immense change due to a number of existing development applications. One such example is the development application in place for the intensification of Eglinton Square Mall that proposes several blocks of mixed-use high-density towers. Located directly southeast of the future O Connor LRT station at Eglinton and Victoria Park the proposal aims to retain the existing mall entirely while densifying the lands around it, transforming this retail hub to a prominent mixed-use community. Additionally, Riocan has submitted an application that will allow for a phased mixed-use community to redevelop over time as a key part of the evolving Golden Mile area. As per the application, it is envisioned that this mixed-use community, over time, will accommodate 3.2 million square feet of GFA, of which up to 80% may be residential. This community will stress transit oriented uses to optimize its proximity to two Eglinton Crosstown LRT Stations. The new LRT will bring improved service and connectivity, linking 54 local bus routes, three TTC interchange subway stations and GO Transit.
