3 Introduction Description As of Metasys Release 8., there are two ways for you to provide your facility with fire alarm control. 2 Fire System interfaces the Intelligent Fire Controller (IFC) panel with the Metasys Facility Management System (FMS) via the 2 Bus to provide secondary fire reporting. 1 LA CM CM Operator Workstation 2 Bus 2 Bus IFC Panel IFC Panel n2fire Figure 1: 2 Fire System Metasys Intelligent Fire etwork (F) is a UL 864 UOJZ Listed, FPA-72 Proprietary Protective Signaling System that enables one or more IFC panels to communicate with the Metasys FMS via the Fire etwork (F). The F allows for communication over a peer-to-peer network and can monitor and control fire alarm systems along with the Metasys FMS systems. 4 Throughout this document, there will be a variety of similarities and differences highlighted between the 2 Fire System and the F. The table below shows the difference in hardware that is used in each system. Fire Controller Object icon1 Zone Object 19 icon2 The Fire Controller object is the hardware object manager. It defines the hardware interface between a designated Fire CM or a Fire-et CM and the IFC panels. There is one Fire Controller object per IFC panel on the 2 Fire System. It is the only object that communicates directly with the 2 Fire System via the 2 Bus. On the F, however, each Fire-et CM can have up to 1 Fire Controllers associated to it. A Zone object is the software representation of an IFC panel software defined zone. One Zone object corresponds with one logical zone residing in the IFC panel. A logical zone is a user-defined and programmed grouping of addressable input (initiating) and output (control) devices. Each Zone object is responsible for tracking the status of its corresponding IFC panel zone and is programmed to report status changes throughout the Metasys FMS as required. Up to 24 Zone objects can be mapped from an IFC panel. Each IFC panel zone should have a corresponding zone object. 4 Objects Fire System Objects

5 Purpose Application The purpose of the Fire Controller and Zone objects is to integrate fire management functions with the Metasys FMS. Collectively, these objects monitor the operation of the IFC panel(s) in either the 2 Fire System or F, respond to status changes, and distribute this information to other devices on the Metasys etwork for further action. When utilized on a F, the Fire Controller objects also have UL Listed commands available at the Fire OWS that are not available to a standard Operator Workstation. These commands include system wide commands such as Acknowledge, and Reset, plus individual addressable commands to enable and disable input or output points, and on/off commands to output points. The Reset command allows the operator to reset the fire panel from the Active Fire OWS. Fire alarm system objects continuously monitor the functions of the IFC panel connected to either the 2 or the F. Fire Controller and Zone objects can report those changes to Operator Workstations on the 2 and to the Fire OWS on the F. The types of functions reported are included in Table 2. See the Smoke Control section of the Metasys etwork Technical Manual (FA 636) for smoke control guidelines. Summaries describe the condition about the addressable input and output devices (field points) residing in the IFC panel fire alarm system can be displayed at Operator Workstations and Fire OWSs. A device summary provides pertinent information for each device such as: description, application, value, and current status. From the standard Operator Workstation, or from the Fire OWS, each addressable device connected to an IFC panel can be controlled as shown in Table 3. Objects Fire System Objects 5

7 Capabilities The Fire Controller and Zone objects have a number of capabilities. Some of the capabilities are common to both object types, while others are unique. They are listed in the following tables. Tables 4 and 5 show the object capabilities for the 2 Fire System and the F. A COS report may be sent to one or more operator devices when an alarm or trouble is detected in the IFC panel system. An optional user-defined message may be associated with the report. - Disable prevents the object from communicating with the IFC panel. - Enable resumes communications. - Lock Reports prevents the object from sending COS reports to operator workstations and printers. - Unlock Reports resumes COS reporting. - Lock Triggers prevents the object from causing (triggering) a control process. - Unlock Triggers resumes control process triggering. Auto Dialout indicates whether or not a remote PC or dial-up link should be immediately called when a critical report is issued. Operator Report Enable specifies whether or not the Fire Controller object will report actions taken at the IFC panel to Metasys transaction logs. Input and Output Device Summaries provide information about individual field devices such as description, application, SLC, value, and address. This feature allows certain attributes of intelligent smoke detectors to be modified at the operator workstation: - Default Sensitivity--low, medium, high - Verify--detector verification - Day/ight Adjustment--sensitivity adjustment to a time-of-day schedule Download must be enabled for this feature to work. See Fire System Objects--Engineering and Data Base Generation in the IFC-11/22 Technical Manual (FA 448) for more information. Triggering means that various conditions of an object, such as a change in status, can cause a control process to run. Provides a common communication link between the IFC panel and Metasys etwork. 8 The F has similar capabilities to the 2 Fire System. Throughout the Table 5, the term Active Fire OWS is used. The Active Fire OWS is the designated Fire OWS that can acknowledge fire alarms from and transmit command actions to a particular Fire-et CM or group of Fire-et CMs and their associated IFC panels. For more details on the Fire OWS, see the Fire Operator Workstation (Fire OWS) Technical Bulletin (LIT-63614) located in the Operator Devices section of this manual. 12 Operator Interface Operator Workstation and Fire OWS An operator may access a Fire Controller object through the Operator Workstation or a Metasys etwork Terminal (T) on the 2 Fire System, or in addition, the Fire Controller object can be accessed by a Fire OWS on a F. Both systems require the proper password level. At the Operator Workstation and Fire OWS, the Fire Controller and Zone objects can be defined, modified, displayed, and commanded. In addition, Input and Output devices can also be displayed, and in some cases, their programmable attributes modified. At the etwork Terminal, the Fire Controller and Zone object screens can only be displayed. Figure 7 illustrates the Fire Controller object screen, and Figure 8 shows the Zone object screen. ote: UL does not permit the T to be connected to a Fire-et CM. 17 Engineering Before You Begin Introduction The CM that is connected to the IFC panel via the 2 Bus is regarded as the Fire CM. The CM that is connected to the IFC panel via the F is regarded as the Fire-et CM. Quick Start This document describes Fire Controller and Zone objects configured online using an Operator Workstation on the 2 Fire System or a Fire OWS on the F. The following sections apply to both systems, except the Capabilities and Limitations section, which covers each fire system separately. Before you begin defining these objects online, you should: have a general understanding of the IFC Fire Alarm System s capabilities and theory of operation partially configure the IFC Fire Alarm System as described in the Configuring the IFC Panel section of this document ote: This document does not apply to Data Definition Language programming. DDL users should refer to the DDL Programmer s Manual, FA 632. Metasys Fire Management consists of two object types: Fire Controller and Zone. The Fire Controller object defines the hardware interface between the CM and IFC panel. There is only one Fire Controller object defined per IFC panel. Zone objects are software objects that track the status of each software defined fire zone configured in the IFC panel data base. Together, the Fire Controller object and Zone objects integrate fire management functions with the Metasys FMS. This section tells you how to quickly define fire alarm system objects (Fire Controller objects and Zone objects) from your Operator Workstation or Fire OWS. For additional information about defining or modifying Fire System objects, configuring the IFC panel, viewing device summaries, or adjusting detector sensitivity, see the Data Base Generation section of this technical bulletin. 18 ote: Before beginning Quick Start, you must: partially configure the IFC panel Fire Alarm System as described in Configuring the IFC Panel, in the Data Base Generation section of this document declare the CM a Fire CM (select under type code) using CSETUP for Windows OVRAM View and Modify dialog box under the Command menu (2 Fire System) or if you are using the Fire-et CM no additional configuration is needed in CSETUP for Windows. If you need to reconfigure the Fire-et CM, use the OVRAM View and Modify dialog box and declare the CM a UL 864 Fire CM (select under type code) (F) ote: When defining a Fire-et CM, define it as a standard 2 on Port 1, even though Port 1 is not used. set the port, threshold, and wiring style information in the Fire-et CM. The Fire-et CM is already configured with the correct type code. See the Metasys Intelligent Fire etwork Technical Bulletin (LIT ) located under the IFC etworking tab in the IFC-11/22 Technical Manual (FA 448) for additional information on the port, threshold and wiring style settings. 1. Defining a Fire Controller Object To define a Fire Controller object for both fire systems: 1. Go to the System summary in which you want to add the object by double-clicking the system name on the map. (To define a system, see Defining Systems in the Operator Workstation User s Manual, FA 634.) 2. Select Item from the Menu bar. Then, select ew from the Item menu. A dialog box for selecting object types appears. 3. Select 2 device. Click OK. 26 Fire Controller Object Zone Object Capabilities and Limitations Fire CM in the 2 Fire System There is only one Fire Controller object defined for an IFC panel. The Fire Controller object is the hardware object or communication link between the IFC panel and the Fire CM or Fire-et CM to which the controller is connected in the 2 configuration or associated with through programming in the F configuration. The Fire Controller object communicates with the IFC panel via the 2 Bus or the F. It uses this information to monitor the panel s overall status, report changes-of-state, and trigger control processes. The Fire Controller object also processes all Metasys downloads to the IFC panel and routes messages intended for Zone objects or binary data points. A Zone object is a software object that tracks the status of one logical zone residing in the IFC panel. The number of Zone objects that you will define depends upon the number of IFC panel zones planned for, or existing in, the panel s data base. Each zone defined in the panel should have a corresponding zone in the CM even if alarms from that zone are not required. Although each Zone object receives information about its IFC panel zone from the Fire Controller object, the Zone object is responsible for the following: monitoring the fire zone; reporting changes-of-state of addressable devices listing the zone number in their Control By Event Statement; and triggering control processes as needed within Metasys. Most of the automatic interaction between the IFC panel (zones) and other parts of Metasys is handled through Zone objects. The following sections detail the capabilities of the Fire CM as part of a 2 Fire System, and the Fire-et CM operating in the F. An IFC panel connects to the Fire CM via the 2 Bus on the 2 Fire System. It also contains the Fire Controller and Zone objects. The Fire CM is a standard CM, except it provides a different software set to accommodate the hardware requirements of the Fire Controller and Zone object managers. A standard CM is configured as a Fire CM during CSETUP for Windows. See the CSETUP for Windows Technical Bulletin (LIT d) located in the Control Modules section of the Metasys etwork Technical Manual (FA 636). 26 Objects Fire System Objects

27 Do not heavily load the Fire CM with non-fire controllers, as it is important that the Fire CM poll the IFC panel over the 2 Bus at least once a second. Capabilities The following list provides the Fire CM capabilities. The Fire CM supports: one IFC panel up to 14 additional 2 controllers. If more than six other controllers are used, all controller objects except the Fire Controller object should be set to poll Priority 3. It is recommended that the Fire Controller object poll priority be set to or Zone objects 1 additional objects (nominal) of all other types allowed HVAC application specific controllers including: - AHU - VAV - UT - DX91, XT91, XTM (CM-2 only) all Binary Expansion Modules including: - XB - XRL - XRM Software Point types and associated objects including: - BI - BO - AI - AOS - ACM - BD - AD - CSG - MCO Software features including: - Demand Limiting - Dial-Up I/O - GPL Processing - Load Rolling Objects Fire System Objects 27

28 - Password - Point History - Report Router - Scheduling - Totalization - Trend miscellaneous hardware and software: - laptop PC connection - T connection - CM printer port - Dial-Up Port - 1 Communications Bus - 2 Communications Bus - CSETUP for Windows and Diagnostic Tool Limitations The Fire CM does not support the following: DCM and the associated PID Loop objects L2 Devices (C21, C26, and C5) digital analog output devices and associated AOD objects IAC-6 Intelligent Access Controller ILC Intelligent Lighting Controller S2 devices (JC/85 field gear) F and Fire-et CM The Fire-et CM meets FPA 72 Proprietary Protective Signaling System requirements and is used exclusively for fire alarm/trouble supervising station reporting on the F. It connects to the IFC panels via the F and like the Fire CM, it also contains the Fire Controller and Zone objects. The Fire-et CM is shipped with a special ARCET controller board, 2 Mb memory module and various connecting devices. See the Fire-et CM section of the etwork Control Module 3 Series Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Control Modules section of this manual. A standard CM cannot be used in this application and continue to meet the UL 864 and FPA requirements for a primary supervising station. 28 Objects Fire System Objects

30 Operation of a Fire Controller Object Figure 13 illustrates the functions performed by the Fire Controller object: hardware interface, change-of-state reporting, control process triggering, and intelligent detector adjustment. You ll need to define a Fire Controller object to map to the IFC panel. Mapping means that the Fire Controller object attribute fields are associated with specific hardware and internal points within the IFC panel. The Fire Controller object must reside in the same Fire CM or Fire-et CM that is connected to the IFC panel. In addition, only one IFC panel can be connected to a Fire CM on the 2 Fire System while up to ten can be connected on the F and associated with each Fire-et CM on the F. 3 Objects Fire System Objects

31 Hardware Settings Hardware settings for the Hardware Interface include: Trunk # Comm Address Poll Priority (use or 1) For a description of these attributes, see Appendix A--Table 13: Fire Controller Object Attributes in this document. Unreliable and Offline States The Fire Controller object may become unreliable due to an offline condition (communication break). When this happens, the following attributes become unreliable: Download in Progress Download Enabled Download Required D.B. Rev. Match Alarm Detected Trouble Detected Signals Silenced AC Power Fail UPS Battery Low otes: It is normal for the D.B. Rev. Match attribute to read. If any of these attributes become unreliable and are associated with a control process (trigger), the control process results could be affected. For example, unreliable triggers may be ignored. How Do I Find Out If A Fire Controller Object Is Unreliable? You can determine if a Fire Controller object is unreliable by looking at the Focus window or System Summary displaying the object. In the Focus window, the Object Offline attribute will display a Y in its text box, and the Status attribute will show?????. In the System Summary, the Value text associated with the object will read offline. ote: Alarm Count, Trouble Count, and Security Count will always be unreliable on a Fire Controller object that is not mapped to the F. Alarm, Trouble, and Security Count are used with the F only. Objects Fire System Objects 31

32 Change-of-State (COS) Reporting The IFC panel continuously monitors and analyzes changes-of-state within its system and communicates those changes to the Fire Controller object during 2 polling or F communication. In turn, the Fire Controller object can send COS during reports to Operator Workstations, Fire OWSs, and printers for viewing. The Fire Controller object can support multiple alarm and trouble conditions simultaneously and independently. For example, the IFC panel can be experiencing a trouble and an alarm at the same time from different field devices. The Fire Controller object will categorize and process the multiple changes-of-state in order of priority (i.e., alarm, trouble, normal). Standard Metasys reports are sent through Report Router and diverted as programmed. In addition, special reports for the F, called Fire Alarm System Reports log (print) at all Fire OWSs and display the request for acknowledgment at the Active Fire OWS. The IFC panel that originated the report is acknowledged when the operator acknowledges the Fire Alarm System Report dialog box at the Active Fire OWS. COS Settings The following attribute fields can initiate a Metasys COS report: Alarm Detected Trouble Detected Download Enabled Download Required AC Power Fail UPS Battery Low Object Offline Reports Lost (applies to 2 Bus only; not applicable to F) Signals Silenced ote: Reports Lost is an internal attribute and not displayed in the Focus window. 32 Objects Fire System Objects

33 Standard Metasys Report Types The Fire Controller object provides six standard Metasys report types: ormal Report Type can generate a report when the IFC panel Fire Alarm System changes a system level attribute to normal status. Alarm Report Type can generate a report when the IFC panel Fire Alarm System changes to alarm status. This is the alarm report type for the system level. Trouble Report Type can generate a report when the IFC panel Fire Alarm System changes to trouble status or has a system level trouble. ormal Event Report Type can generate a report when a field point reports a return to normal status. ormal Event Report type is the normal report for the field point level. Alarm Event Report Type can generate a report when a field point reports an alarm condition. It is the alarm report for the field point level. Trouble Event Report Type can generate a report when a field point reports a trouble condition. It is the trouble report for the field point level. The IFC panel can issue three different levels of alarm, trouble, and normal reports: system, fire zone, and field point, with system reports containing the most general information and field points the most specific. ote: When operating on the F, the IFC panel also sends reports as Fire Alarm System Report dialog boxes. These dialog boxes appear on the Active Fire OWS when an alarm, trouble, or Change-of-State (COS) report occurs. When a report is received at the Active Fire OWS, an audible alert is sounded. All alarm, trouble, and COS reports are reported to the Critical summary and dedicated F printer of all Fire OWSs. Each level represents a different part of the IFC panel Fire Alarm System. A system level report would tell you the system detected an alarm, a zone level report would tell you which zone the device was in, and a field point level report would specify the addressable device in alarm. For example, starting from all ormal, if a field point changes to an alarm condition, an Alarm Event Type Report is issued. Then, when the IFC panel Fire Alarm System recognizes the alarm condition, the Fire Controller object Alarm Report Type is generated. The Fire Controller object provides alarm reports for the IFC panel Fire Alarm System and field point levels. The Zone object provides the Alarm Report Type for the fire zone level. Each report level can be enabled, disabled, or directed as desired. Objects Fire System Objects 33

34 You can specify different settings for these reports (i.e., Critical 1-4, Followup, Status, and one). Your settings determine the priority and destination of a COS report. Higher priority reports are displayed in the Operator Workstation critical summaries before lower priority reports. CRIT 1 is the highest priority report. All Crit (critical) reports can be displayed in dialog boxes (pop-up windows) at Operator Workstations. If you specify one, no report is generated. All COS reports, except one, may be sent to files or printers at the Operator Workstation. These files may be viewed and printed. ote: Fire Alarm System Report dialog boxes always go to the Active Fire OWS. Triggers Certain attributes can trigger control processes. This means that when the value of a triggering attribute changes, this change can cause a control process to run. Triggerable Attributes The following Fire Controller object attribute fields are triggerable: Alarm Detected Trouble Detected Object Offline Signals Silenced AC Power Fail Status ote: Status will support triggers for normal, alarm, and trouble conditions. For more information, see Appendix A-- Table 13: Fire Controller Object Attributes. 34 Objects Fire System Objects Lock/Unlock Triggers The Triggers Locked flag is used to disable triggering processes. For example, in alarm situations, when the Alarm Detected attribute changes to Y (Yes), this attribute could initiate an exhaust air damper to open in an area affected by smoke. However, if the Alarm Detected attribute is being set off by unwanted alarms due to construction in the area, you may want to disable the process by setting the Triggers Locked flag to Y (Yes) until these alarms are eliminated. ote: If you command the Triggers Locked flag to Y, all triggering processes associated with this object will be disabled. Refer to your Operator Workstation User s Manual for the procedure used to lock/unlock this flag. On a Fire-et CM, the Triggers Locked flag can only be commanded by an Active Fire OWS with the proper level password.
