4 01. INTRODUCTI The External Siren is used to attract attention when the alarm signal is received from the Active SmartHome Gateway, by activating its siren and strobe light. It can also alert you to a tamper violation, signal communication problems and low battery status. 4

5 03. INSTALLATI ATI 3.1. Installing the External Siren on your Active SmartHome Portal 1. Open your web browser and access your Active SmartHome Portal. 2. Access the Security page and go to Settings. 3. Press the Add Sensor button and choose the External Siren option (Fig. 01), then click on Continue. 4. Insert the name for the Outdoor Siren, so you can identify it easily and then press the Continue button (Fig. 02). 6 5. Unscrew the bottom screw of the Siren using a Philips screwdriver and pull the Top Cover out carefully. Switch on the Siren (connect the AC adapter or slide the power switch to the BT4 position). All the LEDs will flash once and the Siren will emit 1 beep. The power cable is passed through the back of the Siren, by opening and enlarging the round hole marked near the AC connector, by using a Philips screw driver for example. 6

7 8. Press the Learn Button once. The Siren will emit a short beep and all the LED groups will turn on briefly. The Siren is now in learning mode and will transmit a learning code to the Gateway. 9. If the Active SmartHome Gateway did not receive a learning code, press the learn button again (the Siren will not sound a beep this time). 10. Once detected (Fig. 03), the platform will display the Sensor ID and the signal strength. To complete the installation process, click on the Add Sensor button. When the acknowledgment is received, the Siren will sound a short beep with LED group 2 flashing once to indicate that the learning process was successful. Figure 04 The External Siren is detected If the learning process fails, remove the Siren from the Active SmartHome Gateway and repeat steps 3-7. If the Siren does not receive the confirm code from the Active SmartHome Gateway within one minute, the Siren will leave the learning mode and LED groups 1 and 3 will turn off. 7

8 3.2. Power Supply The Siren can be powered by a 9 V, 1 A power adapter or by 4 x LR V batteries. To connect the power adapter to the BX-23: 1. Drill a hole (Fig. 05) for the AC adapter wire to pass through. 2. Unscrew the screws on the AC Input Terminal Block using a Philips screwdriver. 3. Pass the wires of the AC adapter through the hole and connect them to the correct terminal. 4. Tighten the screws on the AC Input Terminal Block using a Philips screwdriver. Ensure the wires are connected to the correct terminal. 5. Plug the power adapter into a power socket. 8

Mounting the Outdoor Siren Before proceeding with the mounting, connect the Power Adapter to the Siren and/or slide the Power switch to the BT4 terminal. It is recommended that both power options are used simultaneously. Set the switches on Function Switch Blocks 1 and 2 to the desired position. By default, the switches are positioned as follows: - Function Switch Block 1: All switches in position, except SW1, SW2 and SW5 - Function Switch Block 2: All switches in position Ensure that the Siren has already been learned by the Active SmartHome Gateway. If not, go through the steps described below so that the system can learn the Siren. 9

10 1. Disable the Siren Tamper function on the Active SmartHome Gateway. The Siren will sound a beep to indicate the tamper switch is now disabled. 2. Find the location where Siren is to be mounted. 3. Check whether it has a strong enough signal with the Active SmartHome Gateway by pressing the Walk Test button in the Settings menu of the Security application and the Learn Button on the Siren. 4. If you are satisfied, confirm the DIP Switch settings are programmed to your preferences. Slide the power switch to the appropriate terminal (AC-powered and/or battery-powered), replace the LED cover and secure it with the 4 LED cover screws using a Philips screwdriver (See Fig. 06). 11 5. Identify the 4 mounting holes, mount and fix the Siren to the wall using the large screws and wall plugs provided. Secure the screws using a Philips screwdriver. Make sure the Tamper Switch is fully depressed against the wall (or spacing material). 6. Replace the Top cover by hooking the top of the Top cover onto the top of the base. Push the bottom of the Top cover onto the base and tighten the bottom screw using a Philips screwdriver. The Siren Tamper function will only be for a period of one hour. The Active SmartHome Gateway will automatically turn the function back after this period has lapsed. The tamper switch plunger protrudes through the back of the unit, so that if the siren is pulled from the wall, the alarm will be activated. Ensure it is fully depressed when the siren is mounted. If there is a gap, pack with suitable spacing material. If the Siren is to be AC-powered, please follow the steps described in the Power Supply section to set up the power adapter. 11

The confirmation sound will only be silenced when the user sets the confirmation sound to be silent on the Active SmartHome Gateway Alarm Memory If an alarm was triggered in your absence, the alarm system will signal the Siren to sound a short beep. 15

16 If the siren gives out a short beep when you disarm your system, this suggests that there may still be an intruder on your premises Alarm Length When an alarm is triggered, the LED strobe light will flash for 3 minutes regardless of the Active SmartHome Gateway siren settings Siren Tamper The Siren is protected against any attempt to open the top or to detach it from its mounting surface. 18 05. MAINTENANCE 5.1. Supervision After installation, the External Siren will automatically transmit Supervision signals to the Active SmartHome Gateway at random within a range of 30 to 50 minutes. Should the gateway receive no signal from the External Siren during the Supervision time period, it will consider that the sensor is out of order, unless and until any activity wakes up the sensor, and so restores it to the previous connection session. The platform will report this event each time it occurs Power Supply The Siren can detect low battery status. When the battery is low, it will emit 3 beeps when arming/disarming the alarm system. A low battery signal will also be sent to the Active SmartHome Gateway along with the regular signal transmissions so that the Active SmartHome Gateway can display the status accordingly. 18

19 5.3. Changing the Battery 1. Disable the Siren Tamper function on the Active SmartHome Gateway (refer to the Active SmartHome Gateway instruction manual). The Siren will sound a beep to indicate the tamper switch is now disabled. 2. Unscrew the screws at the bottom of the Siren using a Philips screwdriver and pull the Top Cover out carefully. 3. Remove the LED cover by unscrewing the 4 screws using a Philips screwdriver. 4. Turn the power switch off. 5. The battery compartment is a large box in the Siren with a lid, secured with 4 screws. Unscrew them using a Philips screwdriver and remove the compartment lid. 6. Remove the old batteries and press the Tamper Switch twice. 7. Insert new batteries into the battery compartment. 8. Slide the power switch to the BT4 terminal. All the LEDs will flash once and the buzzer will emit 1 beep. 9. Replace the LED cover and secure it with the 4 screws securing the cover using a Philips screwdriver. 10. Attach the battery compartment lid and secure it with the 4 screws using a Philips screwdriver. Do not over-tighten. 11. Enable the Siren Tamper function. Once enabled, the Siren will sound a beep to indicate the tamper switch is now activated. 19
