Agenda 1. What is indoor emergency lighting? 2. Emergency lighting regulations 3. Maintaining emergency lighting 4. Innovation in indoor emergency lighting 5. Questions and answers 22
Emergency Lighting Regulations
Emergency Lighting Regulations Most lighting manufacturers follow these technical requirements: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Code of Federal Regulations UL 924 safety and performance standards NEC 700 & 701 International Building Code (IBC) International Fire Code (IFC) 24
Emergency Lighting Regulations These regulations normally state that the emergency lighting: 1. Incorporate charger and discharger circuitry to detect when main power has shut down 2. When the main power is detected as off, automatically illuminate emergency lighting 3. Emergency lighting should glow for the electrical-coderequired 90 minutes 4. Incorporates indicator light for maintenance 25
Agenda 1. What is indoor emergency lighting? 2. Emergency lighting regulations 3. Maintaining emergency lighting 4. Innovation in indoor emergency lighting 5. Questions and answers 26
Emergency Lighting Maintenance
Emergency TLED Maintenance 1. Every Month Locate the emergency light Utilize push-to-test switch and keep the button down for at least 30 seconds 2. Annually AC power must be interrupted for at least 90 minutes, simulating the UL-prescribed duration to verify emergency functionality 28
Recording Best Practices according to UL Date of inspection 2. Location of the fixture 3. Name of the maintenance person 4. Signature or initials of the maintenance person 5. Status of the fixture and any corrective maintenance performed 29
Emergency TLED Maintenance Know your warranty. A five-year warranty is what Energy Focus offers for its RedCap. Dig deeper and ask your vendor what is included. 30

Emergency Lighting Evolution Incandescent Light + Central Battery System Emergency Ballast + Fluorescent Ballast + Fluorescent Tube Integrated Emergency Battery Backup TLED 35
Traditional Fluorescent Emergency Lighting System A traditional fluorescent emergency lighting system can consist of an emergency ballast (battery packs), fluorescent ballast, and fluorescent tubes located in the luminaire. The emergency ballast includes the battery enable switch and indicator lamp. 36
Innovation in Emergency Lighting - RedCap The Energy Focus RedCap is a high performance, self-ballasted TLED, providing 140lm/W efficacy, rechargeable high temperature batteries, along with charger, discharger, and indicator light in one tube. 37
Innovation in Emergency Lighting - RedCap 38
Innovation in Emergency Lighting - RedCap 1. Standard lamp and emergency lamp are integrated into ONE lamp 2. External battery packs, drivers, and switching panels integrated into one lamp 3. Utilizes LED technology which dramatically increases the efficiency 4. Longer life time 5. More efficacy 6. Ballast no longer required 7. Less maintenance 39
