The Global View designed for rail 3
The Global View designed for rail 4
The Global View Development of Turnover designed for rail 5
The Global View Expanding and increasing business througout the world? You are a globally active supplier? All standards are known? How does it work for you in fire protection? designed for rail 6
designed for rail 7
Major Fires Influenced Understanding of the Fire Safety Kaprun Fire technical defect (?) Daegu Fire vandalism / terrorism designed for rail 8
The global view The idea could be: compliance to NFPA 130 and EN and everything is done? Unfortunately not! Discussions: - NFPA 130 or EN (is there any influence also by TTIP?) - Special Case Italy - Old Standards (especially BS, NFF, DIN) are still in use outside Europe - local developments (e.g. Australia (EN + local) - how to validate active fire protection systems? - FCCS designed for rail 9
Use of Fire Protection Standards worldwide status quo NFPA 130 EN Mixed GOST designed for rail 10
What is happening in Europe right now? EN : Quo vadis EN 45545? First revision works under discussion? FCCS: designed for rail 11
Special Case Italy: UNI 11565: Railway vehicles Design, installation, validation and maintenance of tire detection and extinguishing systems to be utilized in rail vehicles - General principles Valid since Jan Last change April 2016 designed for rail 12
ARGE Guidelines 1, 2 and 3 - under revision actually - Part 1 and 2 are finished, but not published - Part 3 will have the biggest changes, taking care about the safety issues - All should be ready for publication until InnoTrans Further future development has to checked in line with all the other developments like as FCCS - Accepted right now in e.g. Canada, India, Brazil, China, Australia Rev. 5 Rev. 4 Rev. 3 designed for rail 13
Situation for approval of trains Project Stadler EC 250: Train will run from Frankfurt to Milano Italian approval body expects fire tests in acc. to UNI, EBA expects in acc. to ARGE Plattform Solution Flirt 3: Approved now for Italy, but to offer in other countries also ARGE will be in issue designed for rail 14
NFPA 130 Status Quo Next Revision foreseen for 2017/18 Public Input Closing Date mid of 2017 Actually 25 Change Processes designed for rail 15
NFPA Committee Work Submitter Information Verification Task for discussion Approved or not incl. results of voting Committee Statement designed for rail 16
Special Remark 1: Chapter 8.11 of NFPA 130 designed for rail 17
Special Remark 2: Annex G of NFPA 130 This reflects a holistic apporach for a railway systems and offers a lot of advantages in economic, safety and attractivity. Is based on FOGTEC s designed for rail 18
NFPA 130 vs. EN Bombardier as a globally active train maufacturer did a very detailed anaylsis of this comparison related to the materials. The results of that were presented by Jonas Wedholm during the fire protection conference in Berlin in March They called this project FIRST. F = Flammability I = Ignitability R = Rate of Heat Release S = Smoke T = Toxicity Main challenge for train manufacturers are the different material requirements! designed for rail 19
Motivation for Active Fire Protection Being afraid of vandalism Simplifying evacuation concepts Smart Concepts designed for rail 20
Q & A designed for rail 21
