1 SECTION PAGING, SPEAKERS AND HARD-WIRED CLOCK SYSTEMS PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 and Division 26 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. B. Refer to the building drawings for any additional requirements. The building drawings will supersede all other quantities or conflicts in this specification. 1.2 GENERAL DESCRIPTION A. This System shall be a copper wired, multi-location system providing public address operation, speakers, clocks and sound systems. Provide systems as described for locations as indicated on the building drawings. 1.4 UPGRADED PRODUCTS A. Due to the fast-changing technology and the duration of this project, products shall be the most current and up-to-date quality and laborsaving versions available for the application, unless otherwise restricted. B. Prior to bidding, provide written notification to the Architect and Engineer of any discrepancies in model or part numbers specified. Corrections will be clarified by addendum. C. Prior to bidding, provide written notification to Architect and Engineer of announced discontinuation or upgrade replacements of specified materials. D. Provide necessary supplies, mounting hardware and accessories required to install specified materials. 1.5 WORK INCLUDED A. The work covered under this section of the Specifications consists of providing all labor, equipment, supplies and materials, and in performing all operations necessary for the "TURNKEY" and fully complete installation of a Speakers, Paging, Clock & Sound Distribution Systems in accordance with the Specifications and the accompanying Drawings, except as specifically noted otherwise. B. The work shall include, but not be limited to, the following: / 1
2 1. Provide and install a complete Paging System as Specified 2. Provide and install all necessary raceway for paging system as specified. 3. Provide and install all cabinets and enclosures. 4. Provide and install necessary Interface module equipment to any other sound systems within the building this shall include but not limited to the Auditorium, Gymnasium. 5. Provide and install all classroom, hallway and external speakers as shown on drawings. 6. Provide wireless clock system 7. Provide and install necessary speaker equipment, supports and enclosures. Speakers are to be mounted to ceiling grid, not ceiling tile. External speakers are to be recessed. 8. Provide shop drawings and wiring diagrams. 9. Provide and install all necessary equipment and wiring to seamless integrated with auditorium, gymnasium, and cafeteria sound reinforcement system for override paging system. 10. Perform initial programming of all systems and audio levels. 11. Perform final programming of systems and audio levels. 12. Provide system documentation including equipment manuals and drawings. 1.6 RELATED WORK A. Power and raceways, electrical boxes, back boxes, pull boxes, etc. required for the paging system will be provided and installed by the Division 16 Contractor. All field cabling for this system will be provided by others. 1.7 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS A. Telecor B. Acceptable manufacturers are: 1. Valcom Class-Connection products. 2. Equipment as listed herein is considered approved for bidding on this project. Where specific makes and models are referred to, the intention is to establish a minimum level of performance and features. 3. All bids shall be based on the equipment as specified herein. Owner or Technology Consultant must approve any alternate equipment. 4. Exceptions must clearly be noted on exceptions page. Bidders taking exception to any portion of the specifications and not noting the exception may be considered non-responsive and rejected. 1.8 UPGRADED PRODUCTS A. 3 B. Prior to bidding, provide written notification to the technology consultant of any discrepancies in model or part numbers specified. Corrections will be clarified by addendum. C. Prior to bidding, provide written notification to technology consultant of announced discontinuation or upgrade replacements of any specified materials. 1.9 DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS A. All bid respondents must provide a certificate or letter on manufacturer s letterhead as proof that the respondent is an authorized distributor and installer of the products supplied in their respective bid. In addition, provide similar proof that the manufacturer in the initialization, setup, and maintenance of the same products has trained the respondent or employees of the respondent MANDATORY MATERIALS LIST A. Provide a complete listing of all major components required for a complete and fully functional System as specified. List the Manufacturer, Model numbers, quantities and Unit Pricing per Mandatory Exhibit. The material list should follow the sequence of items as listed in Part 2 Products. Any bid submitted without such written documentation may be considered non-responsive and rejected. All materials, unless otherwise specified, shall be new, free from any defects, and of the best quality of their respective kinds. All like materials used shall be of the same manufacture, model, and quality, unless otherwise specified BIDDER QUALIFICATIONS A. Installing Integrator shall have a minimum of five (5) years previous experience in speakers, clocks and intercom systems and successfully implemented systems for three (3) recent school projects of similar size or larger, and in scope. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 GENERAL A. To provide the Owner with the maximum flexibility, this Specification is intended to be a performance Specification built around a traditional school paging, speaker, sound & clock system. Vendors shall supply systems which meet the functional requirements herein. 2.2 CENTRAL CONTROL PRODUCTS A. Paging Operation / 3
4 1. The paging program system shall be capable of supporting at least three simultaneous loud speaking intercom conversations without blocking of any kind. The system shall initially be equipped for [3] channels. 2. The system shall be equipped with bi-directional intercom amplifiers that shall be capable of delivering at least twelve (12) watts RMS. 3. The system shall provide facilities for calling a classroom speaker by dialing the assigned classroom number through the IP telephone system. Provide three (3) ports for paging through the IP telephone system. B. Public Address / Emergency Tone Signaling Operation 1. The system shall provide for the distribution of paging announcements from any authorized telephone. It shall be possible to distribute announcements to the entire facility or to selected areas or zones. 2. The system shall provide the capability of assigning speaker locations to any one or more of eight (8) software programmable zones for zone paging. The paging zones shall be separate from time signal zones. 3. Through programming, it shall be possible to exclude selected speakers from the reception of paging announcements. Speakers may be permanently excluded or they may be temporarily excluded so that testing or other functions may take place without interruption. Speakers that have been temporarily excluded shall be automatically reinstated by the system at midnight each night. 4. The system shall provide for the distribution of emergency tone signals to all locations with speakers to alert school personnel to emergency situations. It shall be possible to initiate tone signals from any authorized telephone. When tones are initiated from a system telephone, it shall also be possible to make a voice announcement in conjunction with the tone. The system shall automatically mix the tone and voice signals. 5. The system shall also provide the capability of initiating tones manually from a dedicated tone initiation panel. Switches on this panel shall be clearly labeled to indicate the tones, which may be activated. 6. The system shall provide for Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) for selected administrators. By dialing their PIN at any system telephone, the administrator shall have access to the same capabilities assigned to their office telephone including paging and tone distribution, regardless of the restrictions on the phone he is currently using. C. Audio Program Retrieval Operation 1. The system shall provide for the distribution and retrieval of audio programs. The system shall support up to three (3) simultaneous audio program sources. 2. The system shall be equipped with program sources as follows: a. Source #1 AM / FM Tuner CD Player. b. Source #2 Spare 3. The system shall provide facilities for the distribution of program material from administrative locations by authorized administrative telephones may select a program source for distribution and then initiate the distribution to selected rooms, or zones or to all zones simultaneously. D. Phone Integration / 4
5 1. The system shall be fully integrated with the telephone system supplied by others, so that all functions specified are fully accessible from any administrative area or classroom telephone. E. Speakers Internal 1. New Telcor#STB- 11 8" ceiling speakers shall include baffle and grille assemblies for each ceiling speaker. Speakers are to be attached to ceiling grid, not the acoustical tile. Existing speakers will be integrated into the new Telecor Paging system. a. 8 Speakers b. Frequency Response, 65 Hz to 17KHz c. Power Rating, 5 Watts Continuous d. Voice Coil Impedance, 8 Ohm for one way hallway speakers, 45 Ohm for two- way classroom speakers e. Voice Coil Diameter, 3/4 f. Transformer Taps, 5, 2,5, and Watts g. Line Transformer, Combination 25/70 Volt h. Housing and Finish, Circular 22 gauge steel finished on a baked on white powered-epoxy finish. i. QUANTITY REQUIRED: AS PER PRINTS F. Speakers External 1. External speakers shall be surface mounted, water proof, provide mount. 2. Provide a beige/tan color horn speaker 3. Power rating, 15 watts continuous 4. Telecor A-15T speaker-horn vandal proof back box and stainless steel grille. Furnish and install all backboxes, system cable and power wiring and connect to new PA head end equipment located is main office area. 5. QUANTITY REQUIRED: AS PER PRINTS G. Analog Hardwired Classroom Clocks 1. Classroom analog wireless clocks will be 12 Black Analog clocks and Synced to a master clock system. Approved manufacturers are: a. Primax 2. Analog 12" Clocks a. Provide, per building drawings, 12" Classroom Analog Clocks. b. Provide wire guards on all gym clocks. c. Provide two-sides clocks as indicated. d. QUANTITY REQUIRED: AS: PER PRINTS e. 3. Analog 12" Clocks a. Provide, per building drawings, 15" Gymnasium Digital Clocks. b. Provide wire guards on all gym clocks. c. Provide two-sides clocks as indicated. d. QUANTITY REQUIRED: AS: PER PRINTS / 5
6 4. Accessories a. The Clock System will synchronize all classroom clocks, paging and bell system to each other. Provide all necessary hardware, software and materials to allow continuous synchronization of the paging, clock and bell systems. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 GENERAL A. Perform this work in accordance with acknowledged industry and professional standards and practices, and the procedures specified herein. Provide and install all materials, devices, components, and equipment for complete, operational systems. B. Maintain a competent supervisor and supporting technical personnel acceptable to the O wner and Consultant, during the entire installation. Change of the supervisor during the project will not be acceptable without prior written approval from the Owner, the Engineer consultant or Architect. Coordinate all efforts with those of related trades. In the event of any contracts delayed or improper preparatory work by others, notify the Architect immediately. Verify all field conditions. 3.2 ASSEMBLY A. Any equipment racks shall be considered as custom assemblies and shall be assembled, wired, and tested in a properly equipped shop maintained by the Integrator. Assembly of racks on site will not be permitted. 3.3 EQUIPMENT LOCATION / 6
7 A. Placement of equipment, as indicated on the Drawings, is for maximum operator convenience. Verify any changes in placement prior to assembly. All system components and related wiring shall be located with due regard for termination of induced electromagnetic and electrostatic noise, for the minimization of wiring length, for proper ventilation, and to provide reasonable safety and convenience for the operator. 3.4 IDENTIFICATION A. All terminal blocks, rack mounted equipment, and active slots of card frame systems shall be clearly and logically labeled as to their function, circuit, or system as appropriate. Labeling on manufactured equipment shall be engraved plastic laminate with white lettering on black background or dark background that is similar to panel finish. 3.5 VERIFICATION TEST REPORT A. Upon substantial completion of the system, test each telecommunications port for the functional requirements as listed in Section 2. Document, on an Integrator generated form; the compliance of every port and the testing individual shall initialize the results of each location. Submit a written report detailing the results of initial adjustments and verification tests including all relevant Drawings, charts, and photographs. This report shall be completed and submitted to the Architect and Engineer Consultant for review at least seven (7) days prior to acceptance testing. 3.6 ACCEPTANCE TESTING A. The Acceptance Testing will be performed by the Architect representative after Substantial Completion has been documented. Coordinate this period so that free access to work lighting and electrical is available on the site. B. Make provision for the availability of a cabling tester, and make it available at all times, on site, during the testing period. C. Be prepared to verify the performance of any portion of the system by demonstration, and instrument measurements. Proof of performance is by demonstration of the system providing the functionally as described in Section 2. D. Make additional mechanical, and electrical, and programming adjustments within the scope of work and which the Architect and Owner deem necessary as a result of the acceptance tests. 3.7 SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION A. Prior to acceptance tests, the Integrator shall submit to the Owner, three copies of an operating and maintenance manual for the system that has been installed. These manuals shall be used during the final acceptance testing of the system. Each manual shall contain the following information: / 7
8 1. As-built Drawings. 2. Operation and maintenance manuals. 3. Single line diagrams showing impedance levels throughout the system. 3.8 TRAINING A. Provide 4 hours of training for this system. Training shall encompass both training for the system users and for the system operators. 3.9 WARRANTY A. The Integrator shall guarantee that the system components and labor required to meet the scope of work defined in this specification for a period of one year after final acceptance to the Owner. This guarantee shall cover the replacement of all parts and labor to replace same made necessary by normal usage and when the following conditions apply: 1. The Integrator shall be responsible to provide service within twenty four (24) hours, after notification by the Owner or his representative, within the hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM from Monday through Friday for a period of one (1) year on any System Failure. A "System Failure" is defined as a failure, which prohibits any users from using the system. Service Request forms shall be supplied by the Integrator and the faxing or ing of such a request form will constitute notification by the Owner of a service request CLEAN-UP A. Work Areas shall be cleaned at the end of each day. All debris shall be cleared, removed and disposed of in an approved container for the site. All equipment and tools shall be removed from common areas and stored in approved, secure storage locations. Any work that may impede the general use of the space and cannot be removed shall be flagged and cordoned off by the Contractor prior to their departure. END OF SECTION / 8
