Well, we made it through January. If you are like us, you learned a new phrase - 'Polar Vortex'. The weather and news reporters really liked the new phrase to describe the cold weather we had. The good news is that every day that goes by gets us another day closer to spring! With the cold and wet weather M&M Lumber has had our fair share of sickness passed around and hope that it misses your household. We've been working on projects around the store and hope to continue over the next few weeks. We just received a pallet of 40# ice melt so hopefully this will scare off the cold and nasty weather for the season! Good thru March 15 - or while supplies last. Facebook Updates Are you onfacebook? If not, this is what you'remissing: Roofing: Product availability has become an issue and lead times have extended. Availability is expected toget worse February and in to March. OC hasannounced a 5-7% price increase for April 15th. Get ready for others to follow. Rebar: The rebar market is steady. The ruling on the potential dumping duty from Mexico and Turkey is expected in April. There is alot of import bar hitting the ports that will help to keepprices in check through March. Lumber: The weather across the country has taken some toll on the lumber industry to say the least. It has been interesting to see things develop. The overall production capacity at the lumber mill level has not increased so to speak from last year; however the orders from consumers anticipating a strong spring have created demand. It is a unique situation to bein these miserable winter conditions and see lumber prices higher than last year at thistime without the weather. GPis in phase 1 of upgrading their North Carolinalumber mill as part of a multi-phase increase inits production capacity. Plywood/Panels: It really is tales of two different animals where we have a dimensional lumber market that is inflated from this time last yearand we currently have a panel market that is flat and lethargic. Where lumber mills did not increase their production capacity the OSB manufactures increased their production capability and somewhat have over supplied themarket. With the winter slow down the supply hasincreased and kept the average price down. With every day we get closer to longer and warmer days and the potential for things to really take off. Other Vendors: **We are out of heaters for the season. All of our suppliers are all out of electric and keroseneheaters and do not show to have any on order. What we have is what we have...which as of today is none. We have sold out. -Our 6-panel white pine doors took an increase thefirst of the month. We improved our quality of our 6-panel pine to a vertical grain pine door from Southwest Moulding. These doors have about a 12% increase in price but definately an improvement in the look and quality. -Jeld-Wen/CraftMastertook a price increase January 27th. Flushinterior doors increased 11% and the moldeddoors increased 6%. Exterior steel doors increased 3% and the fiberglass doors increased5%. -Cedarprices took a price increase of 4-7% this pastweek. -PVC pipe has announced a 4-8% increase on February 16. -Mohawk Materials has announced a price increaseeffective March 1 for most of their bagged goodsranging from $.10 per bag for Gravel Mix, up to $.40 per bag of Portland. -PlyGemWindows has announced a price increase of 5-10% for any orders placed after March 14. -LPhas announced a 7% price increase effective April 1. -Hardie has announced a price increase of 0-8% for specific regions in the US to be effective April 1, but have not listed us here in Don't forget that Friday is Valentine's Day!
