Hopefully you are enjoying the mild temperatures to get things done outside! Sincerely, M&M Lumber MarketReport: Market Update: Gypsum: Gypsumavailability is expected to tighten soon with the announcement of the drywall manufactures taking a 15-20% price increasejanuary 1, Roofing: Several manufactures took a price increase in Septemberbut it is uncertain if these prices will remain. Rebar: Domestic mills have raised prices and the import market is stable with prices expected to remain firm through November. Turkey rebar is How do you like your timbers? Cedar that is... There are different types of cedar timbers and many are dried at the mill with many different cost layers and different results in your project. M&M Lumber is stocking FOHC timbers - Free of Heart Centers. Free of heart center means there is no "bull's eye," as the stock is cut away from the center of the log. This is important, as timbers that contain heart centers will crack radially as they season, causing large surface checks. These checks don't usually affect structural integrity, but detract from the overall appearance, and can cause twisting. The openings created by checking can also cause the wood to absorb moisture and decay-causing organisms, shortening its life. Next time you need a cedar beam, take a look at our stock as it is a step above others in town. Extended descriptions have been added to many of our lumber items to reflect the actual size of the material. These descriptions have been added due to a weights and measures inspection at a Lowes in California that resulted in a $1.6 million fine. It is important to know that product

Lumber, Plywood/Panels: Would you believe that 30% of the current new construction starts are from the multi family segment? Smaller production style homes are very strongin the national housing market, and appear to bea result of a very popular, get it while it isgood mentality. This points to a national housing market that is getting better, however far from healthy. The lumber market as a whole is in a consumption phase due in fact that there is a lot of inventory sitting in lumber yards across the US,that will lead to a demand phase where lumberyards start to sell their inventory due to thefall building season demand from job sites. Oncethis demand phase begins, the price of lumber should not be expected to decrease in price till next March. It is a very interesting phenomenonto observe. Pricesup to this point have been decreasing as a whole at the mill level and job sites should have seethe effect of this over the past couple of weeks. However the trend going forward does notlook to promote the same story. The lumber market composite that we track is exactly the same number it was last year at this time 383. The panel composite is a different story as it is412 this week vs 381 this time last year. Thereis talks of production cut backs and talks of low field inventories. sizes are not changing; just the descriptions are being added. The descriptions for the products have always measured the nominal sizes. Facebook Updates Get Social with us!! Are you on Facebook? CertainTeed and Owens Corning have both announced an increase for January 1st and5th. -Poly prices areexpected to remain unchanged for the next 60 days. -Ply Gem Windows has announced a 6-15% price increasefor all order placed after January 2, Jeld-Wenwill implement a 6-10% price increase on their vinyl and aluminum windows and patio doors effective January 12, Certain product Posted :

With M&M Lumber celebrating our 50th Anniversary, we thought it would be fun to get some thoughts from some of the second and third generation family members of their memories of 'Growing up M&M Lumber'. This month we will hear from Jim McKellar Jim moved to Tulsa in 1950 from Vinita. Jim attended Edison Jr High and high school. Jim attended Oklahoma State University and graduated in 1967 with a Chemistry degree. Jim worked for Sunray DX for three months in their analytical lab at the refinery. Jim did not enjoy his job and asked his dad if he could come work for him at M&M Lumber. Jim has been the owner of M&M Lumber since 1987 when he and Ann bought the company from his parents. Jim & Ann have four kids who have worked in the lumber yard growing up while Posted Evidentially, Handy the Penguin had too much fun this weekend...we suspect that he went over to the Carousal to watch the OSU vs. Iowa football game then the OU vs. TCU game and had one too many M&M's while over there. He must have tripped on the curb while coming back to our side of the road and skinned up his nose and hurt his shoulder blade. At least he was happy about OSU winning! Next week if you see him out, send him home early!

In 1960 working at Tulsa Lumber one of the customers was Warren G Morris Co. Phill Bright worked for his dad who was superintendent for Warren. Phill and I have been friends ever since.

At Tulsa Lumber, everything was unloaded by hand; cement, sheetrock, every board...by hand. Phill and I have been friends ever since. -What did you think was the most fascinating thing at M&M Lumber that you can remember? I never thought OSB would catch on like it has. It always was cheaper, but I thought rated sheathing would always be the standard. The spans that are possible with LVLs and I-joist have replaced steel which is something I never imagined. -What memories do you have in regards to the employees that were at the lumber yard? We have been very fortunate to have had great employees today and throughout the years. Jody Hahn was like a daughter to mom. Bob Berryhill worked here almost 40 years. Marty Brown left to become a plumber. Bear Smith was a bouncer at Cains Ballroom and has worked with troubled kids. We have had some neat and interesting people work with us, many who stay for many years. -What would people be surprised to know about M&M Lumber from your memories from back in the day? Jim Sr and Ernest Miller did land development (Shadow Mountain, Willow Springs) and made construction loans to builders. -How has technology changed M&M Lumber? Technology has absolutely changed M&M Lumber for the better. We figured tickets by hand for years. Someone checked them, then Jenny (mom) hand posted them the next day to each account. Some people might remember Howard Johnson. He would figure tickets from the previous day. -What memories do you have of Jim & Jenny (mom & dad) in regards to the lumber yard? They always worked hard and took pride in what they established. They appreciated the customers, they were honest, friendly and helpful and understood that there was nothing that we sell that customers cannot buy from somewhere else. -What funny stories/thoughts do you remember? There are a few things youcan do to keep you and your home fire-safe: -Haveyour furnace and fireplace inspected by a licensedprofessional. -If you use a space heater, keep it on a hard, non-flammable level surface at least three feetaway from anything or anyone. Never leave a spaceheater unattended. Never leave a candle unattended. -Installsmoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms on everyfloor of your home. Replace the batteries at leastonce a year. -Review your family fire escape plan periodically.
