4 Winter 2017 Air Quality Study PM2.5 and Carbon monoxide 65 paper surveys 35 Homes monitored Project Background Results of survey Homes with wood stoves 20 years old and older had 1.5 times higher PM2.5 Conclusion Replace or repair 20+ year old stoves

11 Identifying Potential Project Participants Priority 1 Had PM 2.5 reading well above the EPA limit Elder Smoke effected health issues Note One of the Priority 1 participants did not want a wood stove. He said he was getting rid of his wood stove and switching to a Toyo Stove.

12 Identifying Potential Project Participants Priority 2 Had PM 2.5 reading +- 20% the EPA limit Smoke effected health issues Note One of the priority 2 participants lived in Forest Service Housing.

13 Identifying Potential Project Participants Priority 3 Had PM 2.5 reading close to the EPA limit Note What we found was all the P3 group where people that had done the paper survey but no monitoring data.

18 Pre Bid Inspections A1 came to Hoonah and inspected each home s wood stove and chimney. They checked Roof Crawl space Chimney Wood stove Hearth pad Benefit: Most accurate way to estimate a bid, and will save time and money.

19 Bids A1 wrote estimates for each home listing out the issues found, time and materials. Benefit Easy to estimate total cost of project Gave us a ball park per home to keep the cost at

23 Woods stoves and installation Things we learned Removal of wood stoves is no small task Hoonah has major wood stove and chimney issues that need addressed One of the homes inspected had major chimney fire post inspection One home has multiple chimney fires every winter, she was told not to use her stove again, or it would result in a chimney fire Every home work worked in had to be brought up to code as far as wood stove and chimney
