2 When moving in to one of our properties you may be entitled to an amount of money to help towards the cost of decorating materials. The information in this leaflet explains how the scheme works including how much allowance may be allocated. If you are entitled to an allowance and you are a new resident, you will be given a card for the full value when you attend the sign-up interview. This normally happens just before you move in. If you are an existing resident who is transferring (moving from one property to another), your decorating card will be provided to you once we have inspected your previous home after you have returned your keys. If you are charged for any items following this inspection this amount will be deducted from any decorating allowance awarded. Any remaining amount will then be posted to you. HOW MUCH ALLOWANCE WILL I BE GIVEN? Before you move into your new home we will inspect it to make sure it meets the right standards. During the inspection we will decide how much decorating allowance to give you based on the number and type of rooms that need decorating. The maximum amount of allowance per room is shown in the table opposite. For example, if the wallpaper needs to be removed and replaced, the maximum amount may be given. No allowance will be given for temporary accommodation or mutual exchanges.

4 USING THE DECORATING CARD You may be asked to provide your decorating allowance letter as identification. You must also take another form of identification with you such as your passport or driving license. Only the named resident can use the decorating card. You cannot exchange the decorating card for money; it can only be exchanged for decorating materials. If they cost more than the allowance you will have to pay the balance. We are not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen decorating cards. WHEN CAN I USE THE DECORATING CARD? The decorating card is ready to be used after 48-hours of you receiving it. You can check your decorating card is ready to use by accessing the online balance checker at You will need the 19 digit card and pin number. Alternatively, contact the store you are visiting. The decorating card is valid for six months from the date of issue. You will not be able to use it after this time. WHAT CAN I BUY? The decorating card can only be used for purchases from the following product areas in any B&Q store: Interior paints, woodcare and varnishes; Wallpapers and pastes; Non-powdered decorating utensils; Sandpaper, fillers and sealants; Cleaning products. DISCRETIONARY DECORATING SERVICE If you are aged over 70 or have a disability and do not have anyone to help you we may be able to decorate your home under our discretionary decorating service. Your individual circumstances will affect whether we do this before or after you move in and whether we cover the cost of decorating. If you have a disability that means you are intolerant of paint fumes asthma or emphysema for example we may decorate your home before you move in. Intolerance to paint fumes must be confirmed by a consultant, GP or occupational therapist. You must complete an application form for the discretionary decorating service and your name will be held on a list. The form can be found on or contact the Service Centre for a copy.
