2 Define : Diagram + Plan Arcadia Street Republic Street New High Street North Main Street La Plaza del Pueblo, ubicated in the heart of Los Angeles, is a large historical monument that invites people from all parts of the World to meet and share their culture, common experiences, and engage in the community. After visiting the plaza, we found out that the shape of it is unique and designed to bring together not only hispanic community, but instead cultures from all parts of the world, and take a moment to experience the site. North Los Angeles Street Taking a look to the site plan, we decided to show the main streets adjacent to La Plaza del Pueblo in order to gives a sense of where it is ubicated. Plan Laura Vasquez
3 Main Roads In this diagram we are trying to represent how the roads are conected and intersect in specific points, to finally guide people to La Plaza Del Pueblo. The historical Monument is a focal and meeting point because it is very easy to access the site from the adjacent streets, and it is also a strategic landmark because it is perfect to relax and have a good moment with family or friends. It is incredible how only one place can join communities and break population standards. Green Areas This site has a lot of potential to take advantage of, and we think that parks and green areas around are perfect to bring people from different nationalities, backgrounds, and cultures to the plaza. Green areas are spread evenly around the site, like if they had a relation with the historical monument. We think that it would be a good idea to promote more activities that involve community engagement and public participation, so people would have the opportunity to experience the site differently. Diagrams Time Diagrams Mornings Meeting Place: In the mornings we can always find people doing regular activities and street vendors opening their shops. Noons Density: We can find more people in this place over the weekends, in which different activities such as cultural events and concerts concerts are developed. Nights In the nights we can still find movement, but most of the times people is moving back home or visiting other public spaces around. Laura Vasquez

5 Spatialize: Figure and Ground+ Comparative Analisis Figure and Ground La Plaza del Pueblo In the figure ground being depicted is one that shows the particular analysis of the solid and voids that are appearing in the site. The black masses are being seperated by the white voids in the site, and it gives rise to the type of spaces that are emerging by these relationships of solids and voids. As seen in the image, the surrounding buildings that are around the Historical Monument of El Peblo de Los Angeles shows the abundent types of them that are being represented. The whole reason why this figure ground was cut in this certain way was to show the complexity of the density of building structures that are within this historical monument. It shows the wide spaces that are represented as the white voids, that mosty gives sense of the type of largeness of streets to correspoond to the business of the area. Overall, the aspects between the solids and voides are equal enough to have a unifed and cultural areas in which people come together and exchange cultural ideas. Pamela Fonseca
6 In the Env Plaza in Cal Poly Pomona, shows the differenciation of intentions bwtween the solids and voids, compared to the ones being seen in the Placita Olvera. The cut was made in this certain angle to show the differences and similarities that come with the Env Palaza vs. the Pueblo Historical Monument. In the Env plaza the cancelation of large buildings was made and has shown to be a much more of a site that is powered with white spaces. 7 COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS: When it comes to these two sites, there is a major differences regarding the way they work together an make the location special to whoever uses it. For example, when it comes to La Plaza del Pueblo is an area where there is much of a rich history, mainly used for shopping music, and rich food. It is an area where it pays tribute to the Mexican culture, and it recognizes how a certain site can be so powering and make people come together the same way. In the Env Plaza located in Cal Poly Pomona, is a diversed university that can also share the same qualities as the Pueblo Plaza. The differences between both is how unlike La Plaza at el Pueblo, the Env Plaza has more hills and mountains surrounding the site. La Plaza at El Pueblo ENV Plaza Comparative Analysis Pamela Fonseca
8 Systematize: Flow+ Infrastructure Flow Diagram Figure 3 (Right) and Figure 4 (below): Sun Path Diagram during the Summer Solstice. Flow can be used in many different ways, but in this case right definition that would fit in is to circulate. In architecture, flow is known to be determined by time, wind and other forces of movement. In the case of La Plaza at El Pueblo in Los Angeles, CA there is a lot of circulation. Wheter it is pedestrian traffic or vehicular traffic. La Plaza is small compared to the buildings surrounding it, but even then, it manages to bring some culture and color to that area of Los Angeles. La Plaza has changed throughout years, well in design it has. In content, it has always been a park in which people from different cultures gather. It is mostly known to be populated with people with backgrounds from Mexico, but tourists and people from neighbor cities come around. Figure 5 (above) and Figure 6 (left): Sun Path Diagram during the Winter Solstice When visiting the site, it is noticeable that people come and go throughout the day, all day, Pedestrians usually start off at La Plaza and around it and if there is an event going on many people stay and enjoy. 10 INFRASTRUCTURE: Infrastructure networks control the changes and flows of systems. These networks require systems that respond to the flows of human habitants and nature. In the case of La Plaza at El Pueblo in Los Angeles, CA the flow of pedestrian traffic and vehicular traffic happens to be different on a daily basis. Therefore, the city built a public transportation system that navigates around the whole city. In which it has a couple of bus stops within the block of La Plaza. ENV Plaza Design: Before our Design There are more than one places to go around this block. La Plaza may be one of the main places to go, but it is surrounded by a church shops, an art/culture gallery and the Union Station. As people use public transportation, it helps the flow go around easily. People getting out of the union station get on busses to go to work or walk around the block.
