5 TRENDS Growth in Social Leagues or Club Sports kickball, bocce, non-competitive recreation in softball and volleyball. Leagues prefer these activities in denser areas convenient to transportation and restaurants/bars. Pickleball demand has grown rapidly. Growing number of residential units has created more demand for spaces for dogs and community gardens. Push to Car Free Diet and rise of electric bikes and scooters sharing multi-use trails. Increase in demand for adapted programming. 5

Structured parking Consider the use of structured parking to maximize the preservation of public space for recreation, casual use space and natural resources when the cost benefit analysis, including the cost of purchasing land, demonstrates it makes fiscal sense. Rooftops & Walls Explore opportunities to add or relocate recreational amenities above structured parking and on roofs and walls of County buildings. 25

Update the Urban Forest Master Plan and the Natural Resources Management Plan through a combined process Protect, restore, and expand natural resources and trees Address the protection, restoration, and expansion of natural resources in the Four Mile Run planning corridor and master plans for parks along Four Mile Run, as well as others leading to riparian areas Pursue easements to protect natural areas, mature tree canopy and heritage resources. 27
