2 photo: Philippe Peyrefitte photo: Philippe Peyrefitte PUSG School for Management Avenue Abadie Bordeaux The PUSG (short for Pole Universitaire de Sciences de Gestion, Université Montesquieu) is situated in an old industrial area, a new neighbourhood called La Bastide, on the eastern side of the Garonne River The faculty consists out of 4 different departments, and each department is housed in a separate part of the building This is one of Lacaton-Vassal's first larger projects, and just like their smaller commissions (private houses, social housing, and a small office ) this design is characterized by a 'less is more' method With a minimum use of materials and budget, they create a maximum of space and quality They have proven that its perfectly possible to apply this critical way of looking at architecture to large scale public buildings photo: Philippe Peyrefitte Project is public! 3 photo: João Sousa photo: João Sousa Palais de Justice de Bordeaux Rue des Frères Bonie Bordeaux Following a competition stage, RRP was commissioned by the French Ministry of Justice to design new law courts for the city of Bordeaux that would emphasise, through a feeling of transparency and openness, a positive perception of the accessibility of the French justice system The brief called for nine civil and criminal courts, administrative offices and a large public space, the Salle des Pas Perdus, leading to all the courtrooms The site is located in the heart of the historic core of Bordeaux, near the medieval cathedral and forming a backdrop to the imposing Neo-Calssical Palais de Justice facing the Place de la République The presence of a stretch of the medieval city wall, complete with medieval towers, and an existing law school from the 1970s provided tight and challenging boundary conditions (text from architect's website) photo: João Sousa Project is public! 5 photo: Hans Werlemann photo: Hans Werlemann Maison Bordeaux Avenue Gaston Cabannes Bordeaux Maison Bordeaux sits on a small cape-like hill overlooking the city of Bordeaux The house was designed for a couple and their family, but before Koolhaas and OMA were commissioned for the project in 1994 the husband of the family was in a life threatening car accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down Two years after his accident, the couple approached Koolhaas to design them a new home outside of Bordeaux Despite having been paralyzed, the man did not want a straightforward house rather he wanted a complex design, stating: Contrary to what you would expect I want a complex house because the house will define my world photo: Hans Werlemann Project is not public! 1998 OMA - Rem Koolhaas yuzii 5

6 photo: Studio Bellecour photo: Studio Bellecour Gironde Management Center Rue du Cardinal Richaud Bordeaux Composed of a single volume built on three stories, for a SHON of 4080 m², it regroups office spaces (dedicated offices, meeting rooms, conference rooms) a public-access reception area (exam rooms, healthcare center) as well as various services (dinning room, archives, covered parking lot) An exterior parking deck (roughly 1000 m² for cars and motorcycles) is also provided Implemented at the center of the plot, the building allows a parking lot parallel to its North West facade Access to the project is possible through the vehicle entrance and a pedestrian square alongside the rue Cardinal Richaud photo: Studio Bellecour Public access unknown!
